Satirist Stephen Colbert not on the ballot yet, but he has filed in S.C.
USA Today reports that before today's noon ET deadline, comedian Stephen Colbert paid the $2,500 filing fee to enter the Democratic presidential primary in his home state of South Carolina.
It's up to state party officials to decide later today whether he really qualifies. One of the criteria: You have to actively campaign in the state.
Last night Colbert explained on the air he has apparently given up his "dream" of running in both the Democratic and Republican primaries, the GOP's $35,000 fee was just too much for him.
Stephen Colbert is on the record as saying that his candidacy begins and ends in South Carolina, according to USA Today.
