Rudolph W. Giuliani claims to be a NASCAR fan.

In a report filed by the Washngton Post, The GOP candidate usually shows up at the Metropolitan Opera or a seat in Yankee stadium.

But politics makes strange bedfellows, and even stranger claims by candidates who "reveal" their new found affections for regional events and things.

On Sunday, the Giuliani campaign came to the Homestead-Miami Speedway, "past a handful of Confederate flags flying in the parking lot and beyond the Jack Daniel's tent, to attend NASCAR's Ford 400."

"This is our third race this year," Giuliani allegedly said to the assembled who included former heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis, Miss Florida and crew chiefs, shortly before the race.

"This is a quintessentially American sport," he told the audience. "It represents the best of America."

"God bless him!" said Trevor Jeanes, 23, a construction worker with a DeWalt power tools hat and a can of Budweiser in his hand to the Post. "He did a damn good job in 9/11. He's the only one I respect in Bush's party."

"Put me down as anybody but Hillary," said Jeff Carroll, 51, a band director at a private school in Fort Lauderdale. "Giuliani could be the president."

"Every woman in the country is going to vote for Hillary," scoffed Brian Landis, 43, a tree surgeon from Deerfield Beach, shaking his head in disgust. "They're just going to vote for her. I like Giuliani. It's who I know. It's who I trust."

The Post noted that in political and media circles, "NASCAR" is shorthand among for conservative-leaning white men, typically from the South.

Giuliani is focusing campaign efforts in Florida.

"This is almost like being home," he said of his campaigning in Florida.

Giuliani spoke of pursuing a wide range of alternative fuel sources. Biofuels. Hydroelectric. Nuclear power. Wind. Solar. More refineries. The Post notes, "almost as an afterthought, 'more conservation.' "

You have two candidates to vote for. Ron Paul-R. or Dennis Kucinich-D.
They are the only two not fooled into a liars war and not going to kill anymore people for amusement. Iraq did not blow up the Twin Towers you easily fooled people.

One reason I am through with NASCAR exactly because of their support of Bush's illegal war in Iraq based on lies and the Israel-first neocons who pushed him into it. I am an anti-war paleoconservative (God bless Pat Buchanan and the Confederate flag)and an old school NASCAR fan. Real racing no longer exists in NASCAR. NASCAR is nothing but greed and showbiz with a bunch of pansy-boys who pose as racecar drivers. Real men no longer exist in NASCAR. NASCAR's abadonment of its Southern fan base is outrageous. Giuliani is a phony and no true conservative would even think of voting for him. He is a closet liberal. George W.Bush's policies have led America to disaster and Rudy would lead America even closer to complete destruction. NASCAR should stay out of politics and go back to racing. Impeach Bush. Vote for Ron Paul for President in 2008!!!!

It should be noted that fan attendance at NASCAR races is declining and TV ratings are down. I guess one reason could be that 70 percent of Americans oppose George Bush's unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional war in Iraq along with NASCAR's greed and no longer making racing their only priority. Also, this diversity garbage that's yet another attack on white, especially white Southern fans by the France family, who only care how much money they can get from people, not about them. If NASCAR is going down the toilet,I say good riddance. They deserve it.
