Ron Paul's growing poll numbers vex mainstream press
By M&C US News Nov 25, 2007, 20:46 GMT

Practically written off as an incendiary, racist and even plain old kook by prominent reporters for organizations like the AP, FOX and CNN, GOP hopeful Ron Paul keeps going and going; his supporters are seemingly impervious to the barbs that paint them as disenfranchised and off the grid malcontents.
The AP recently wrote: "The Texas libertarian's rise in the polls and in fundraising proves that a small but passionate number of Americans can be drawn to an advocate of unorthodox proposals."
GOP pollster Frank Luntz denounced Paul's supporters as "the equivalent of crabgrass . . . not the grass you want, and it spreads faster than the real stuff."
Conservative columnist Mona Charen said: "He might make a dandy new leader for the Branch Davidians."
Dr. Paul is a former Libertarian Party presidential candidate, he has called for abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, the CIA and several Cabinet-level agencies.
Dr. Paul is a staunch opponent of abortion, he nonetheless believes that federal bans violate the basic principle of delegating powers to the states.
Dr. Paul is in favor of increased immigration enforcement and a border wall with Mexico and he is the only GOP candidate to come out against any form of national I.D. card.
Dr. Paul's demands for a constitutionally pared-down government has won an interesting array of supporters, including singer-songwriters John Mayer and Barry Manilow.
On ABC's "This Week" George Will cautioned fellow pundits, "Don't forget my man Ron Paul" in the New Hampshire primary. Jake Tapper added: "He really is the one true straight talker in this race."
Dr. Paul's campaign, which is three-quarters of the way to its goal of raising "$12 Million to Win" by Dec. 31, had an outside party organize the fundraising efforts.
All of these facts are unsettling to mainstream organizations and lobby members of special interests who would fall under a Paul presidency. The authoritarian establishment feels threatened according to some observers.
Not since Ross Perot made a go of running as an Independent, have so many Americans from such disparate backgrounds joined forces to defeat politics as usual.
Paul's entire platform is based on the fundamental notion that a smaller government allows individuals the freedom to pursue happiness as they see fit.
Reason.com editors Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch were published in the Washington-Post and write that "in the 1990s, conservative Republicans rose to power by relentlessly attacking Big Government. Yet the minute they took control of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, they kicked out the jams on even a semblance of fiscal responsibility, signing off on the Medicare prescription drug benefit and building literal and figurative bridges to nowhere. From 2001 to 2008, federal outlays will have grown by an estimated 29 percent in inflation-adjusted terms, according to the Office of Management and Budget."
The reporters suggest that the hatred Americans feel over the costly and poorly planned and executed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan only fuels Dr. Paul's "engine powering his grass-roots success" - illuminating even the democrats are hopeless at halting the war machine built up by the Bush administration..

IF Dr. Paul makes a strong showing in NH,Nevada, and a good showing in SCD and Ioaw ... how will MSM spin this?
The libertarian label is fast becoming this political cycle's equivalent to 'L'iberal back in 2000 and that is too bad since libertarian means following the law of the land.
Has the corruption in both parties by special interests gone so far that labeling people who want to follow the laws stated in the founding document of this country 'kooks' 'radicals' 'terrorists'???
WHEN Dr. Pual wins I think his administration will mimic Jackson more then Jefferson. I wish him all the strength to deal with the powers of the specials interests and the Federal Reserve and persevere in putting this country back on the right track.
He's catching on...
Why let the Main stream (misguided) media pick our next President- one who will not be much, if any , different than Bush?
Why call voters names who want a balanced budget and our civil liberties protected?
Why not take the intellectual high road and discuss which candidate has a strategy to keep our once great nation from going broke?
There will be more and more whining from the folks addicted to the current style of government - where big business and special interests write our laws and take away our liberties -and run up massive deficits for our kids to pay.
I am a discontented registered Republican voter who is simply fed up with the way our country is run and I can not tell any major difference between the main candidates running as Democrats or Republicans.
Ron Paul's honesty and integrity will get my dollars and my vote- and please feel free to call me any name you wish .
See you at the voting booth.
There is a thread on the dailypaul dot com about how Ron Paul supporters begin crying when they read and listen and see what's all the success going on.
I myself have had my moments. I have not voted since Reagan in 1980. I now go around wearing Ron Paul buttons. One comment I read said he had never voted, but he now found himself on the Interstate highway I95 overpass in the early morning hours hanging Ron Paul banners. (which is now discouraged BTW ...)
When everyone wakes up to the five trillion in debt, the 60 trillion in unfunded liabilities (owed by those who wake up!) and how the money has no meaning - (they create it in a computer) something is going to hit the fan.
Its like smoking grass the first time. You sit up, 'aware' and then all the other candidates seem like the thieves of old, advocating less or different thievery as a solution. Watching them speak is like looking at a museum, and their time is over, soon.
A recent one day fundraiser had 32,000 separate donations in one day. That’s the real number. What does that tell us?
There is something going on which will transcend this campaign.
It feels sometimes this is like the picture from the 1960's of the flower child girl putting the flower into the barrel of the National Guard rifle. I remember in the 1960's when it was on the news. 'The Times They are a-changing Mr Jones.'
At any election where people can vote, every Ron Paul supporter will be there, rain sleet or snow. No RP supporter will miss the chance to change history.
At Thompson and Giuliani rallies there are many Ron Paul supporters there. They are there at commentator Glen Beck's books signings, and the debates, straw polls, and gatherings -- they are there.
All over America; unrequested. The movement is entrenched deep and wide.
They say that if Ron Paul was a real estate agent in New Hampshire he would be wildly successful by virtue of the signs. Everywhere they go they convert more with his message of peace, freedom and prosperity.
Won't you come with us? If you are not an American citizen there are still ways to contribute - google Ron Paul

The MSM has only covered 'traditional' campaigns. You know, bash the opponent, promise a bunch of goodies & new programs, declare you will solve decades or century's old problems in four years, repeat that DC has the answers, etc Despite all the rhetoric from HRM, Edwards & Obama, RP is the 'people's candidate, ' the one with enthusiastic supporters who volunteer daily.
It's a campaign of ideas, some unpopular, most fairly complex. In other words, it is NOT a series of audience tested sound bites. (Is it true that Mitt has focus tested his laugh to see what goes over better?) This is truly a grassroots campaign that will probably be unsuccessful but it deserves a better press from MSM 'journalists', most of whom are too ignorant of economics to write anything substantial about it.
The main stream media just does not get it. Ron Paul is what America wants, he is the people's choice. He dominates in straw polls, debate polls, fund raising, web traffic and grass roots networking. I have gathered the evidence and created a website.
Please visit www.thecaseforronpaul.com and judge for yourself.
...he had better win something besides an internet poll...
Ron Paul Labels
“Kook, “Gadfly”, “Racist”, these are just a few of the colorful monikers that have been applied to Ron Paul. They appear in opinion pieces as well as in main stream news articles. Needless to say they incite a fevered resentment among Paul supporters who have also received their own special branding, “Paultards”, suggesting a combination of the words Paul and the now politically incorrect term, retarded. They have come at increasing levels paralleling his rise in recognition and popularity.
It is almost inevitable that any person who steps into the spotlight will be placed under the public microscope in attempts to find all the cracks. However, it seems that some undergo a much more intense and sometimes vitriolic inspection. Why is this? Why are some so vehemently opposed and ridiculed while others seem to glide through relatively unscathed? The answer may lie beyond the topics of politics and issues but more in the nature of mankind itself.
You only need to take a little journey through the past to spot a pattern that exists in his various cultures. Traditionally any great endeavor in the past has been sparked by individual aspiration and never by committee. What that means is that it is usually individuals, with concepts unlike any other, who help change and mold the future of the society. Groups have never originated the inspiring or deep reaching concept.
For this reason all forward thinkers have been met with opposition. The society, locked in its ways through years of agreement and complicity, will fight individual efforts no matter how productive. It comes then as no surprise that we have numerous examples of people being publicly, and not so publicly, scorned because of their ideals. Famous examples range from Copernicus to Martin Luther King. It is usually only through the strength of individual conviction that the message finally takes hold where it is nurtured by a small but passionate group. This group then, in a combined effort, forwards the individual message against various obstacles where it then finds a place in mainstream existence.
It must also be mentioned that there is often something that goes beyond the natural tendency for the society at large to resist. There is that very small group, within the group, that fights back with such voraciousness that it has lead to the destruction of great minds and even death. That group appears to lurk behind the scenes directing the intentional downfall of the forward thinker. On the same token they also have an avid craving to also perpetuate the unworkable and often destructive. They somehow fear that others will grow more powerful than them. This is a direct threat to their vested interests and livelihood. They become as fervent an enemy to the new idea as any supporter is an aid. Then when someone attempts to aim his or her finger at this band of darkened souls they cry “conspiracy theorist”.
What tactics are used by these individuals to knock people down to size? Well, black propaganda seems to be an effective weapon. This would be the spreading of false and misleading information to stereotype and degrade its target. This type of methodology was well employed by the Nazis to turn public sentiment in Germany against Jews before the violent onset. It has also been mirrored in numerous examples throughout history.
The way it works is that the rumors or invalidations are fabricated by these individuals and then spread amongst the general public. They use generalities like “everyone thinks”, or “experts say”, to mask whose opinion it really is and to give the recipient the idea that the opinion is widespread (By the way, this masking technique is widely used in the media as well. Just go read a newspaper or watch the news and count how many times a non specific source is mentioned). You will also find that these rumors are more readily accepted and spread by the simple minded. You know these folks they are the Jerry Springer set. They somehow lack the faculty to inspect what is being said and compare it to experience or common sense. They absorb this disinformation like sponges and spread it like truth and gospel. This eventually leads to an accepted but not inspected reality of a person or a message.
In looking at what is happening with Dr. Paul the same process appears to be going on. The attacks are not only leveled directly at Paul but also his supporters. Through certain types of inflammatory statements they invalidate, degrade and make it seem to be common accepted truth. True, a movement such as Paul’s attracts a more colorful set of supporters. There indeed may be some who would like you to join their version of the banana party. But you will find that they are, like that core group of detractors, very much in the minority. It is only the quick fingered detractors via their slow witted friends that paint these guys as the typical Paul supporter.
One could also argue that all candidates attract a radical element. Rudy might attract the violent racist who would like nothing better than to wipe out the entire Middle Eastern culture. Huckabee may attract the religious zealot who has little tolerance for the views of others. These, of course, would only be opinions (not really mine by the way) and supporters for these candidates would take as much exception to being grouped with those individuals as Paul supporters are with the fringe in their camp.
Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that 'there's not a dime's worth of difference between' Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like 'America Deceived' from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great nation.
advocate of unorthodox proposals???
It speaks volumes that the political mainstreams sees governing according to, the Constitution as unorthodox.
Is the major media outlets biased? Sure they are.
Major news media (with a few exceptions) no longer do investigative reporting instead they primarily quote biased sources who spoon feed them the news content.
Who owns major media? Look it up yourself, Fox is owned by Rupert and Rupert is buddy with Rudy, GE owns NBC and they also are one of the largest military contractors in America, I am sure you can do your own searching to find out who and what most of the major media supports, they are not that transparent about it either.
Ok, who really believes the major media is not heavily biased? Raise your hands please...
Even better, do a real story on it.

The liberal Marxist communist seem to believe they have a monopoly on Revolution, happily to say they do not. America 1776 declaration of independence came about before the French Revolution (1789–1799), and was supported at the individual level, it was paid for by the people and not from bankers, a highly novel event. King George needed to borrow his money to fight the colonies yet lost anyway. Americans won because we love freedom more than anything else, and we will fight and win again for our freedom.
Dr. Pauls honesty, integrity, constitutionality objectives are exactly what Americans have been waiting for a long time and now because of the web the established state can no longer keep their take over of America and the destruction of country, freedoms, and property a secret from American. We know know what they are up to and why their lies are not good, their hiding behind political organizations will no long hide their treason against America. Dr. Paul is our champion for freedom and he can help us return the republic to the American people and expose the scourge of the so called democracy as the communist plan to loot our country and freedom.
Ron Paul is the only candidate running for president in either the Democrat or Republican parties for whom I would even consider voting.
'All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident,” says Arthur Schopenhauer German philosopher (1788 - 1860). Dr. Paul supporters are in stage three. The majority of media outlets are starting to enter stage two. Some media outlets live in stage two all of there existence ;) All advertisers know that word of mouth is worth more than the best media campaign money can buy. So why should anyone be surprise when media resistant supporters like that of Dr. Paul’s start making headway with 'real people'? Because we all know those Internet people aren't 'real' voters...yawn. This 2008 race for the president is wide open for anyone including Dr. Ron Paul. Old gallop polls are proving less and less effective due to increased cell phone exclusiveness among young voters. Yet Internet and text messaging polls are ignored and at times even pulled when results are not as expected. More and more people get their news from the Internet and shows like The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert. This varied type of independent media has not been seen in the United States since the revolution when the printing press was invented. Now we have issues before us today like the Military Commission Act, self-written - no judge needed - warrants and approval ratings for Congress and the President at all time lows. The parallels we have with our own revolutionary times are striking to even the casual observer. So to be surprised that college students with this knowledge so recently put to the brain are drawing the same conclusion. An overly repressive government is squandering the labor of its people. It's easy not to see the writings on the subway walls from the ivory tower of mass media outlets. So it's no surprise to me that a man with integrity, principles and a plan is making so much steady headway. There is so much to do to fix this country and I think Dr. Paul, as President would be but the first step in the long goal of restoring our republic. Thank you for your time
I have decided to start collecting the raw Anti Ron Paul sewage so evident on blogs, and to post screen prints when ever Ron Paul Supporters are attacked unjustly. Today on the Huffington Post, a blogger by the name of Misanthrop2 called Dr Paul's supporters: 'Whores for Paul', which of course set the tone for some of the following discourse. Interestingly, later this evening when I returned to the blog to start my collection of Anti Ron Paul sewage, I was unable to find Misanthrop2's favorite phrase 'Whores for Paul', instead all I saw was a Ron Paul supporter ticked off by 'thin air'. Now isn't that very very interesting???
I agree too, there is not any difference between democrats and republicans.
RON PAUL is authentic and the american people like his message. The news
media seems to be picking who the president should be. NO, NO and NO!!!!! We
are not going along with it. We want RON PAUL and we will defend him. We
want the garbage thrown out of Washington and the american people want their
country back. THROW THE ELITES OUT!!!!!!!!!!! Seems like we need to put a
microchip in all of the politicians to see who they are talking to and where
they are going. NEVER MIND SURVEILLANCING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE...The american
people don't trust the politicians. WE WANT THEM OUT...vote RON PAUL.
Not a bad article, but why are erroneous statements like these so common? Is it lazy journalism or something more calculated?
'Dr. Paul's campaign, which is three-quarters of the way to its goal of raising '$12 Million to Win' by Dec. 31, had an outside party organize the fundraising efforts.'
These types of statements make it seem like the campaign was really involved in the November 5 fundraiser, when the campaign simply had nothing to do with its creation or execution.
Perhaps is is just too difficult for journalists to believe that actual real people can come together over the Internet to support a politician.
Don't believe this guy has a snowballs chance---but I love the fact that he is getting support and is taking money from some of the 'mainstream' jokers. It is also very funny how nervous he makes the 'righties'. More power to him, it would be nice to have someone run for president that has not been appointed.
Look at him: Anti-abortion, non-interventionist, anti-tax....who's fooling who here? Take away his non-interventionism, and he's just another, pretty connventional, republican.
For a look at all the professional polls (including state-by-state) go to www.pollster.com. They show every major poll, and a moving average.
It is a real eye-opener (for example, look how McCain and Thompson are crashing.)
Certainly Huckabee is doing better than Paul in the polling dept., but nowhere near as good in the fundraising dept.
But at least Dr. Paul is moving in the right direction.
later.
To Pperfect:
You can try to help, though. I've just did my first-ever freeway sign waving, and it does get you in pretty good spirits when you see passers-by responses. Those weren't all that frequent, but nevertheless.
You can donate if you're a legal US resident, and perhaps even non-residents can support a PAC (like the Blimp).
But it does all come down to the primaries. In many states those are 'closed' (ie, one must be registered Republican to vote), and there are deadlines to switch the party, in some cases already in the past.
The General Elections are 'open', so you can them vote for whomever (or even switch the party affiliation back).
If you ignore the poll data, Ron Paul totally overshadows his GOP opponents on all other measures of popularity. Number of Meet Up groups, number of supporters at rallies (see You Tube videos of his meetings in Philly, Nashville, Las Vegas, Chicago, Seattle, Utah, just to name a few), money raised, internet metrics (web hits, face book, my space, etc.), straw poll votes, etc. How can the media call him a long shot?
He is our next President. Ron Paul will unite as under the Constitution. We will be proud to be Americans again. No more wars, no more meddling in the internal affairs of other countries, no more waste of taxpayers' money by spending hundreds and billions of dollars on foreign aid, while our roads and levies crumble, no personal income tax, no unbalanced budgets, no more senseless and costly wars on drugs, a new era of freedom, hope, happiness and genuine prosperity awaits.
Hi ,
I'm a 49 year old male in Southern California.
I've voted in every election since the age of Eighteen. At first I registered as a Dem. then for a while as a Rep. then switched to Ind.
I've now re registered as a Republican just so I may vote in the primaries for Ron Paul.
I haven't smoked Mary Jane For the past Fifteen years or so,
However I see nothing wrong with anyone else imbibing in there favorite Tranquilizers (be it booze, pot, prescription pills) or whatever. I do think that even though it involves inhaling smoke...anyone can make or purchase a water pipe to alliviate some of the dangers associated with smoking herbs.Millions of people around the world smoke Ciggaretts and drink alchohol, wich I would think is much ,much more harmfull in the long run.
Here in California we the people voted to legalize Marijuana many years ago and the Feds stepped in to over rule or wishes.
Then we passed prop. 187 to help us in curbing our problem with illeagle immigration. What did the Fed do? over rule our wishes once again...thanks big brother!
Finally we passed the Medical Marijuana inititive allowing the use of ,and the growing of Marijuana by People who needed it to comfort them in their illness (whatever that may be). as of now the Feds still harass those on the lists , but at least some of these ill people are brave enough to actually put their names on these lists in order to help themselves to feel better. This coming year ,if Dr. Ron Paul does not make it to the general elections...I will not be a part of the continuing disregard of the people of this (once) Great nation and WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANYONE. I guess I'll just finally give up.
Skeptics should spend a little time guaging the explosive growth and intensity of Ron Paul's support base online. Do a google search on 'Ron Paul' and count the results. Do a YouTube search and count the videos made spontaneously by supporters. And check out these sites:

I have an idea we are in for some eye-popping sizzle from Paul's supporters as the primaries near.

SP4. You are correct, I should have said 'typical righty'. He is far from typical, he at least does not run around kissing butts to look good. I says things that shakes people up, and does not come out of the same mold. That said, I could never vote for him but I must admit he is interesting.
Mona Charen is not a true conservative. She is a Zionist neocon in sheep's clothing.
I guess I'm crabgrass because I love Ron Paul!
First, Ron Paul is a LIBERAL not Libertarian. Second Ron Paul is a LIAR. He was asked on national television about the illegal alien crisis in the U.S. He avoided the question, refused to answer. That is the same thing as guilty, i.e. Mr. Ron Paul would give amnesty to these illegal aliens.
There is only one candidate who will deport all 12 million illegal alien criminals and rid this country of the destructive H-1B visa garbage: Mr. Tom Tancredo. He is was the U.S. needs. Another Dwight Eisenhower, the President who stood for the American people.
There are only two parties, the military-pharma industrial complex with its select 13 candidates and the people with their one candidate, Ron Paul.
Surely the choice is an obvious one and we should grab this once in a lifetime opportunity to support a candidate that is our choice and will work for us and ignore the mainstream media’s smears as they desperately try to get their masters warmongering agenda back on track. Ron Paul is only one with comprehensive solutions to deal with the formidable problems that lay ahead as our sovereign nation state spirals into bankruptcy and servitude.
Dr. Paul's campaign, which is three-quarters of the way to its goal of raising '$12 Million to Win' by Dec. 31, had an outside party organize the fundraising efforts.
Dr. Paul didn't have an 'outside party' do the fundraising. The Donors organized themselves. Are you calling the donors an 'outside party'. Was a nice article just thought that you may be inadvertently misleading your reader as to the nature of the origin of the donations. Dr Paul does not accept corporate or special interest donations so his supporters have decided to pick up the slack. These two points are under reported in my opinion.
The mainstream media is out of touch with mainstream americans.
Go Mr. Paul !
Because they're lying.
Ron Paul follows a constitutional philosophy and doesn't go along with the racketeering that runs Washington D.C. Since the media are run by the racketeers they are pressured to suppress candidates like Ron Paul who would interfere with all the corruption and the delusional empire-building agendas that the majority of Democratic & Republican party officials go along with. It's time for public resistance to the massive criminality of the government and the New World Order agenda... voting in droves for Ron Paul would be a form of resistance, and if the people don't choose honest leaders like Paul then the country will be torn apart and any resistance in the future would be likely to become violent since means of peaceful resistance would have been disabled. We already have a corrupt elections process and can't expect that election results in important races are legitimate. Only if the public vote overrides the margin of attempted theft could an honest candidate win a Presidential election. Let's become that populist landslide!
I am glad to ee an explanitory article that actually takes time to clarify important points about a candidate - that is something that RP does not get a lot. I especially thank you for clarifying his position on abortion - a lot of people assume that he is going to ban it - that is a ridiculous conjecture... and I do not know what these people are basing it on but I have seen a lot of really repugnant journalism exhibiting 'facts' about Ron Paul that are inaccurate and I thank this article for being in depth. It is very sad that we are now at the point where people have to get on the internet to get more facts from blogs like this rather than relying on people who are paid out the wazoooo for such a pittiful job, but I am greatful we have something to turn to.
njattack,
You are not doing your man Mr Tom Tancredo any favors kicking off your post with two inaccurate statements that even cursory research would reveal as false.
“First, Ron Paul is a LIBERAL not Libertarian.”
How can this be so if he’s serving his tenth term as a Republican? But why get caught up and hooked on labels, just work your way through the policies and the track record. It does mean a little work, but least then you will not be easily fooled by anyone or the mainstream media.
“Second Ron Paul is a LIAR. He was asked on national television about the illegal alien crisis in the U.S. He avoided the question, refused to answer.”
I’ve seen him answer the question forthrightly without fear or favor many times on television so I have no idea what channel you are tuned into. Amongst a plethora of places you can read what he has personally written about it right here: The Immigration Question by Ron Paul www.lewrockwell .com/paul/paul314.html (remove space), wherein part he states: “We must reject amnesty for illegal immigrants in any form. We cannot continue to reward lawbreakers and expect things to get better.”
So the words you then go on to put into Ron Paul’s mouth “Mr. Ron Paul would give amnesty to these illegal aliens.” is starkly false. However, what is really important is that Ron Paul not only recognises the problem but has a practical solution in policies to turn the situation around… you should take the time to read what he has to say instead of making it up yourself.
Vote for Ron Paul or else........
You will be living with 100 million more Mexicans....very very soon!
Vote Ron Paul or......start learning Spanish!
Please bring my country back Dr Paul
A true champion of the people has stepped forward when we need him most desperately. At a time when we are losing it, his message is liberty. Is it any wonder that he is so loved? Dr. Paul represents hope for America and the world. The day I vote for him will be one of the proudest days of my life.
I'm so sick of the whining of these unimportant bloggers.
Racist, crank, kook, ***************Yawn*****************
None of it sticks...
HAH!
Everything that they list as 'Wrong' with Dr. Paul,
is what we love about him!
'They' must be crazy, not us.
RP is exactly that--a candidate for techies, malcontents and for old hyppies who remember the days of Sen. Eugene McCarthy running against Hubert Humphrey and the Establishment. He is certainly a 'gadfly'. His own party, the GOP, hates him. Most his supporters are bloggers who are anything BUT Republicans. Essentially, Paul's support is a mish mash of Libertarians, some disaffected conservatives and Democrats--but mostly Independents. He may well have a good showing (say, 18%?) in New Hampshire but that state has always been fiercely Independent. His problems will be in the South and in states like Iowa. Instead of being strong in the South (after all, he's from Texas), his anti-war position and Libertarian position on legalizing illicit drugs (always the downfall of Libertarian candidates) as well as his having voted for THREE amnesties for illegal aliens do not bode well for him. He's 'somethings but not enough things' for most conservatives. He belongs in another party--the Libertarian Party, not the GOP.
['The AP recently wrote: 'The Texas libertarian's rise in the polls and in fundraising proves that a small but passionate number of Americans can be drawn to an advocate of unorthodox proposals.'']
Why is it that EVERY 'news' agency is reporting Ron Paul as a 'libertarian'?
Are they all trying to equate Ron Paul with the dreaded 'L' word (liberal)?
Yes, he once ran for president as a libertarian, but HE IS NOW RUNNING AS A *REGISTERED* REPUBLICAN!
I only wish these MSM moguls would at least report the TRUE facts!
(HAH! - FAT CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING!)
This 'small but passionate number of Americans' is going to continue to RAPIDLY GROW and surprise (and frustrate) those in power, including the not-so MSM!
ALL...repeat ALL...of the Republicans other than Ron Paul are drinking the Neocon Kool-Aid of endless war. Six of them, Giuliani, Huckabee, Thompson, Romney, McCain, and Hunter ARE Neocons. Tancredo is a good man, but he's drinking the war Kool-Aid. Because Ron Paul is the ONLY peace candidate, and because he is the ONLY candidate who can beat Hillary, the Neocons are terrified that they are about to be expelled from Washington by a Revolution. They're right, the Revolution to take back America has begun.
I have never before sent money to a candidate. I should be for Hilary, but after hearing her comment, and then waffling on, giving illegal immigrants a drivers licence, I am more impressed than ever with Ron Paul.
SP4- maybe you need to read elsewhere...as far as I can tell, they are talking about his amazing attributes almost EVERYWHERE, except the MSM. Not just here on m&c.
Also, contrary to what the writer suggests, R.Paul is NOT for a border fence, he voted against it. Look it up.
The Libertarian label is getting tired as well. This man left the Republican party to run as a Libertarian candidate in 1988, and then went back to the Republicans, and has been re-elected as a REPUBLICAN in his district again and again. This says a lot about his principles and integrity because his district is almost all farmers, and as most should know by now, he does not believe or vote to subsidize farmers. They just know he's honest.
Ron Paul is the only 'real' Candidate I see. The others of both parties have basically just morphed into a big/corporate/military money machine controlled by special interests. The others are all the same.
He's also the ONLY one against the N. American Union. I don't know why no one talks about it. Giving up our borders? Why would we open our borders to the south where they have a terribly corrupt government? What do you think will happen? They will ALL come here, flood our cities and towns and demand all of what they have 'coming to them', meanwhile, in Mexico, Non-Mexicans are still not allowed, by law, to buy property? Doesn't sound very mutually beneficial. We have got to develop a way of knowing who is here if they are not a registered citizen. It's not racist. It's just called being safe.
And building embassies oversaes the size of disneyland is not how we protect ourselves at home.
And what about our currency? Why do you think it's ok to let the dollar tank? Right now the Euro is worth twice as much! ($100 Euros = $200 U.S. Dollars- that's a hell of an exchange rate!). Because the Amero is coming to save us. How are you going to talk the general public into accepting a replacement currency if the current one is strong? You can't. Things are going in the toilet just as planned, and only we, the people, can take notice and stop it.
It's ok to be proud of the values that once made this country great, now it's time to stand up for them.
Ron Paul 2008!
Well of course the establishment is scared -- finally we have a candidate who is raising funds from ordinary American citizens instead of multi billion dollar defense contractors.
What will happen when he gets 15-18% in NH as predicted by John Zogby?
First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then
they fight you. Then you win. -Ghandi
The Clinton-Bush era scares me,we have already had to much of that. Electronic voting scares me,its a failure.Ron Paul scares the news media, FBI,CIA, I like that.
Frank Luntz? Are you kidding me, this pollster has been interviewed in the past and has proclaimed that political polls only advance the interest of those who are asking the questions. Seriously, even Fred Thompson has noticed that Fox News is biased against him in their coverage idolizing Rudy. If you don't believe me look at Frank's own words in an interview about the shady world of political polling, remember he's getting paid to advocate candidates that FOX likes. Crab grass, my ***. Watch this before you even dare to ask Frank for an honest opinion.
Go Ron Paul!
To find the Penn and Teller interview of Frank Luntz just go to Youtube
and search: Ron Paul Frank Luntz
and open the first link.
The final position of the mass media must be to deny accurate Ron Paul polling numbers to convince potential supporters that, by voting for Dr. Paul, they would the 'throwing away their vote'. Of course, exactly the opposite is the truth -- voting for anyone else merely perpetuates thwarting the intentions of the founders of our Republic. What to do about the TV and newspapers? See populistamerica.com/the_mass_media_and_ron_paul
We are experiencing a democratic grass-roots revolution. Talk to your neighbor! The alternative is the loss of our liberty. Watch the Naomi Wolf video at BigEye.com
As of Nov 25th, 2007 after 45 polls, Ron Paul is ahead winning 23 straw polls; not internet polls.
The smear & fear tactics by the controlled media and ADL didn’t work to well against Mel Gibson’s block buster hit movie Passion of the Christ either, Truth does Prevail and will Prevail. Don’t wait; delegate for a Ron Paul Victory in 08’
May I say thank you sir for the best article I have read thus far on the view's of ron paul. I espiecial like the the part about abortion, most people mention that he is pro-life but neglect to put the very important fact that he is also pro states rights, therefore he doesn't deciede weather or not you can have an abortion. Anyone have any new ideas out there for getting him more press, I feel like the surge has slowed.
is what being a conservative is all about. Too bad the neocons are going to boycott him.
protect this guy my friends - he is the hope for not just Amerika but the whole world. Lokis from Kanada
I took a look at all the candidates, expecting the humdrum monotony of unappealing candidates who are all so similar, and discovered Ron Paul. He stood out as the clear, obvious, and only choice. Ron Paul has my vote! And by that, I mean this: he will have my real life vote.
Why do Americans do it? Why do we play the same games every single year? We already know, unless someone is completely stupid, that Hillary is the same as Bush, is the same as Huckabee, is the same as Romney is the same as Edwards is the same as Giuliani, is the same as McCain, etc. etc. What are people afraid of about the idea of voting for someone who is immense ly popular and yet the MSM, whether it's television, magazines, newspapers, etc. won't talk about or even admit his popularity.
Dr. Ron Paul, Is the only candidate who can save this nation--IF everyone gets behind him. We can see the rest of these candidates are going to lead this nation to its destruction.
The media and other bureaucracies parade their hatred, bigotry and prejudice as they proclaim themselves the chief foes of love, tolerance and diversity. 'GOP pollster Frank Luntz denounced Paul's supporters as `the equivalent of crabgrass'??? Typical modern pollster, hates decency and loves political correctness, doesn't even try to hide it. These (?) people live on some planet far from earthly realities. Another pundit above says Dr. Paul calls for 'unorthodox' solutions, meaning good old Constitutionalism and real conservatism, in some cases the very values the Bushes have articulated in their saner moments. 'Unorthodox'? Who are liberals and neocons to talk???
Liberals, neocons and other mattoids HATE Ron Paul and his supporters -- that's exactly what it boils down to!
I am an avid supporter of Ron Paul. It is time, or past time to turn this nation around and give it back to Americans. Today we are facing a real possibility of Mexico taking our country for their country, and that's to say nothing of the fact that our President is giving it to them!!! They are coming across our border in droves and nobody is keeping them from doing so. It is time to take our nation back; we have to Secure our Borders now!! We have no time to waste. They have flown their flag on our Independence Day, which has nothing to do with them, and they are trying to take our language and make theirs number one. Hey, there is definitely something wrong here and we have to stop it. We have to secure our borders and the ones that are here have to learn our language, English, and if they don't want to do that, send them back to Mexico. Why are we teaching our students Spanish; we should be teaching their students English. There is definitely something wrong with this picture and it definitely needs corrected. I am also tired of going to stores in my city and hearing Spanish spoken as though it were Mexico and even more frustrating is purchasing items with Spanish written all over them. My forefathers fought for this country so I could enjoy Freedom without having another country threatening it. Hey, America, wake up and vote for a candidate who will give our country back to Americans. It's time to say 'No, George Bush, this is my country and I'm taking it back!!!!!!!
Go Ron Paul!!!!!!
Ron Paul 08.
The media tried to ignore us, We have the new media, The Internet
Ron Paul 2008
If Ron Paul gets anywhere near the winners circle,
hes going to be dumped on so hard by the special interests groups.
...I just hope hes wearing his hard hat...
'advocate of unorthodox proposals' is not so, for Ron Paul is grounded in a established doctrine.
What polls show him not doing well? He has won almost every recent Straw Poll. And when Zogby was forced to do a fair poll, removing the questions of a sexual nature asked only to Ron Paul voters, he recieved 30% of the vote, and ghouliani only got 19%. The CORPORATE Media is lying to your faces and the sheeple are lapping it up as usual. The dumbing down of the public by the GOVT. funded Public Education system has been a smashing success.
I don't know what to believe anymore regarding Ron Paul's chances. I do know that in all the debates I watched, he won the post-debate polls, whether they be online or text message based. I also know that people in my life who have watched the debates have also been really impressed by Ron Paul's performance, even if they had never heard of him before. I've been torn between Tancredo, Hunter, and Paul, but I now plan on voting for Paul in the primaries. He is the whole package, and while I admire Tancredo and Hunter, they have not taken a stance I agree with regarding the war (at least that is so in Hunter's case for sure). I don't understand how Paul can be so popular online and post-debate polls, yet supposedly not gaining traction in Iowa or New Hampshire. I'm not sure I believe the mainstream media, as I know they constantly tell outright lies when they cover subjects like Iraq and illegal immigration. Paul has been the only candidate (besides Tancredo) to call for an end to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (North American Union). I really don't trust any of the mainstream candidates at all anymore, so even if Paul doesn't get the nomination, by voting for him I will have a clear conscience.
One thing is clear: if our choices are Clinton and Guiliani, neither will get my vote. Our only hope in that case is for an independent third party choice.
We Should deport 'MONA CHAREN' BACK TO ISRAEL!!, she spews Garbage!!!....Ron Paul just want to restore the founders vision of this great nation(USA), 'We do have a Constitution that still exist'or should we let them take that away as well?? 'Get a life Mona Charen'.
Ron Paul, like Ross Perot will get a Clinton in the WhiteHouse. A lot of you Paultards are actually MoveOn.Pink nutroots. It's a shame to see this twittering weasel, the racists xenophobe, get any 'legitimate' support at all.
Ron.... fire the government, send them to the streets with no unemployment welfare foodstamps nothing. LEt the mosques take care of people.
He's a kook.
I'm sold. I was a Giuliani supporter until I understood where Dr. Paul is coming from. We lost our track. We need to bring America back from dark side. Abolish the empire and restore the republic. It almost sounds like Rome all over again, let's not make the same mistake. Just Listen to RP!
The more they try to attack us by insulting and marginalizing us, the stronger we get.
If Luntz thinks we're crabgrass, he ain't seen nothin' yet!
I'm proud to be a part of the 'Crabgrass Coalition' for Ron Paul.
So much for unbiased.
The mainstream media controls this country. I find it disgusting! Ron isn't getting into polls - 'they' do not recognize Dr. Paul as a candidate because of the push from their special interest financial backing. What is so different about the generations coming into their 20's right now is we have a fairly realistic view of the problems of the world, and I believe we are very apt to fix them. What might be the problem is helping each other understand how important liberties are to one another's personal lives. There are probably many people that will still vote for the completely mainstream candidate because they are ill-informed by our gross media campaigns, and they are afraid or unable to stray, to inform themselves. GO RON PAUL!!!!!
I expect Ron Paul to take third in Iowa, second or third in New Hampshire, and to win Nevada Alaska Colorado and Wyoming. The Ron Paul message of freedom, prosperity, liberty, and personal responsibility is attracting people.
This is a battle of the old media vs. the people, and of big government vs. you.

SP4: What Polls?Nov 25th, 2007 - 21:27:00
None of the polls conducted by the press are showing this guy doing quite so well. Now, they might be lying, but why is it we're only reading about this guys amazing attributes here at M&C?
