US President Bush says Saudi rape victim should be supported

Washington - US President George W Bush, reacting to the court-ordered punishment of a Saudi rape victim, faulted Saudi officials for failing to 'support the victim.'
The 19-year-old woman from Qatif in eastern Saudi Arabia was abducted and raped by seven men.
While her attackers were sentenced to prison and lashings, the victim was convicted of violating Islamic Sharia law by meeting alone with a man who was not her relative, prior to the abduction. After speaking to Saudi media about her appeal against a sentence of 90 lashes, judges stiffened the punishment to six months in prison and 200 lashes.
The case gained international attention last month, with governments around the world issuing statements urging Saudi officials to block the court's decision. Bush's spokeswoman has commented in the past.
'My first thoughts were these: what happens if this happened to my daughter? How would I react? And I would have been ... very emotional, of course,' Bush said Tuesday.
'I'd have been angry at those who committed the crime, and I would be angry at the state that didn't support the victim.'
Bush said that he could not remember if the issue of the rape case came up during a telephone call last month with Saudi King Abdullah.

has made every citizen of the USA a victim of his stupidity and arrogance. I wish he would support these victims. He won't because he is an as-shole and a psychopath.

Bush did not stand alone on this matter. This is a definite human rights issue. Though I generally disagree with a lot of his decisions, I stand with him on this. Would hope many more would stand up for the right things.

Somebody ought to tell Bush there are atrocities on a much larger scale going on all around him.
Also the girl is experiencing a miscarriage of justice, an everyday thing for women living in Islamic Muslim countries. Unfair to her and all women living under these conditions.

Wasn't his mother a rape victim? I believe a chimpanzee of below the usual level of intelligence for these animals was arrested for the crime. Would explain a lot.
Shouldn't the U.N. be the spokesman for this and not directly from Bush?

He's desperate to win a little standing from the American Public who he has been lying to and cheating for years. It isn't 'desperation' to condemn this it is common decency. The same people whining like fools about it here would be whining if he hadn't said anything on the subject.
