Oprah Winfrey says it, recommends it, or gushes over it - and whatever "it" is -  becomes a best-seller or most popular hit item.

But in selecting a leader in the free world, do we really need to know what the woman who tells American females how to buy a brassiere thinks about politics?

Apparently so.

Oprah is stumping for her Obama, the annointed "Oprah's Club" choice as the next president of the United States.

Obama's Oprah Iowa appearance was designed to charge up Iowa's women to pay attention to the race full stop, according to Time magazine.

According to Time: "1,385 people (no gender statistics were available) worked four-hour volunteer shifts for Obama in order to qualify for a ticket to Winfrey's appearance. (The campaign distributed a total of 12,000 tickets to supporters with another 11,000 given away online.)"

When Oprah showed up in Iowa and took the stage - the mostly-female crowd "exploded" in joy accoridng to Time.

Many women were moved to tears, reports Time.

Tears?

"Iowa — Hellloo! Hellloo!" yelled Winfrey. "Oh my goodness. At last, I'm here!"

The real affect of Oprah's appearance in Iowa is unknown, but Des Moines voters are enjoying the A-List crowd tht keeps showing up,  trying to sway their all important vote in the first official caucus that will potentially sway the rest of the country to pick a team player for President.

I'm not sure why the celebs don't wise up and use their influence to get Ron Paul into office. I certainly hope Winfrey isn't backing Obama using race for a reason. She must be smarter than that.

First off, the US pres is NOT the leader of the free world. Never has, never will be. He, she, or it, is just one representative of one country. If said moron were the leader of the free world, then we all would get a vote in the matter. Until then, bugger off with this allegation, this piece of nonsense, this delusion of yankee grandeur.
Secondly, this is more proof that US elections are an entertainment spectacle rather than the sober, thoughtful choosing a leader. But what else is to be expected from a country that brings you clowns like Bush and Cheney?

You must be grasping at straws if you vote for this fellow. Like many of the other candidates, Obama is just a crap-filled M&M.

Throw away the blinders and take a look at Paul. Otherwise throw your vote away to vanity and the representatives of greed. America wake up.

People need to have a mind of their own and quit following some so-called celebrity. What makes them any more of an expert than anyone else? And people who blast anyone who has a different opinion like the poster 'Obama?' is a pain in the butt!

Celebrities have a right to their opinion, but just don't adopt it as yours unless you agree - have a mind of your own!

Oprah Winfrey is a gifted philanthropist, and if you dont know the difference between establishing a book club and standing up and taking a responsible position on selecting a leader in a Democratic society then please go back under your rock.

Presidential candidates have campaigned with celebrities for years, its not anything new. Clinton's celebrity is Bill Clinton who always draws big crowds and she is endorsed by Streisand. And the Edward's rallies have celebrity music entertainment like Bonnie Raitt, and movie star, Tim Robbins to draw crowds. These candidates are simply increasing their opportunities to be heard.

In Iowa Obama has consistently drawn crowds without celebrities and once they hear him and learn who he is, they support him. Obama 08!

Oprah is a lucky chat show host who had the great Roger King find her, dust her off, and market her to the country,
in the process, she has become the wealthiest woman in media, and with that great wealth a phalanx of advisors and accountants who tell her it behooves her to find a charity(s) and give copiously to offset tax liability.

Her largesse is noted, but it is par for the course of any rich celebrity, they must give away a large chunk, part of the game. Look at the Gates, Brad and Angelina, Murdoch...
to imply she is a 'gifted philanthropist' is a huge overreach. She's just rich with a conscience.

All of these celebrity endorsements make the whole political process a superficial spectacle. It's crass.

Just because you happen to be a celebrity doesn't mean you aren't an intelligent, well-informed person, but people need to put all that is prospective and not be swayed by them any more than any other campaigner.

YES, THEY ARE! Personally, I don't understand the intrigue. What's so great about her? Every time I see her on tv, she's screaming-ME ME ME, LOOK AT ME! Albeit, she's a little more subtle than that, but you get the drift. As long as you're fixating on her, she's happy. There's nothing special about her, or her taste. Grow up people.

...for a liberal...it doesn't matter which one...

I'd have no problem with four more years of Bush as opposed to the crooked, pandering canididates on the left. Hell, I'd even vote for Ron Paul...
