John Kerry backs Obama for US presidency

Jan 10, 2008, 18:32 GMT

Washington - Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama was endorsed Thursday by fellow US Senator John Kerry, who lost the 2004 election to President George W Bush.

Kerry portrayed Obama, 46, as an inspirational young leader who can bridge ideological differences, defeat political cynicism and make a decisive break with the Bush years.

'Who better than Barack Obama to bring new credibility to America's role in the world and help restore our moral authority, who better than Barack Obama to turn a new page in American politics,' Kerry, 64, told a rally for the candidate in South Carolina, where Democrats hold a presidential primary on January 26.

In a swipe at Obama's main rival Hillary Clinton, Kerry insisted that the African-American contender's relatively short government record was not a handicap. Experience is 'defined by wisdom and instinct and vision,' he said.

Obama has been a US senator from Illinois since 2005.

Former first lady Clinton, now a US senator from New York state, is in a tight race with Obama to become the Demoratic Party candidate for the November 4 presidential election.

Obama won last week's Iowa caucuses, the opening state-by-state preference poll in the 2008 race for the White House. Clinton bounced back to win Tuesday's New Hampshire primary.

John Edwards, who was Kerry's vice presidential running mate in 2004, is also competing for the party's nomination. He placed third in New Hampshire and second in Iowa.

Kerry is nothing but a leech. All Obama needs to do is to ask a smoker to burn Kerry off with a cigarette. End of problem.

I don't think it will make a difference one way or another unless it would influence any followers that Kerry has - nothing to get riled up about!

It is too early to tell who will be the presidential candidates of both major parties. However, the repubs partyunder GWBuffoon has thoroughly disgraced itself. Unless the dem caddidate flips out, or is exposed as a pedophile. felon, etc., the dems should rather easily win the presidency no matter who their candidate is in Nov. Not only are the repubs burdened with the disadvantage of making the country suffer from the incompetent Bush admin, but their potential candidates are are not inspiring anyone either.
McCain seems to be their best choice to run against Clinton or Obama.
Perhaps the dems will get together and offer Clinton [potential first woman president] and Obama [first black vice-president] or the reverse of that.
Regardless, the repubs don't seem to have a winning situation developing for the election.

Remember all you right-wing liars (swift boaters) John Kerry received almost 50% of the popular vote and is capable of bringing Mr. Obama millions and millions of $'s to help defeat whichever looser you pick.
