McCain, Clinton projected to win New York
Feb 6, 2008, 3:12 GMT
Washington - US Senator John McCain was projected to win New York state in Tuesday's Republican Party presidential primary, according to projections by television networks based on exit polls.
Former first lady Hillary Clinton was projected to win the state in the Democratic Party presidential primary. She has represented New York in the US Senate since 2001.
The state, the second-biggest Super Tuesday prize in delegates, is winner-take-all for the Republicans, giving McCain the entire New York slate of 101 delegates to the centre-right party's nominating convention in September.
With nearly half of precincts counted, McCain, who represents the south-western state of Arizona in the US Senate, had 50 per cent of the vote in New York. His closest national rival, Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, which borders New York to the east, was a distant second at 28 per cent.
Clinton was leading rival Barack Obama with 60 per cent to 37 per cent.

of party would allow a low-life like John Sidney McCain represent them? A very sick, lame, weak party; that's what kind of party. That would be a losing party.
