Uniting Republicans will take time: McCain (Extra)

Washington - John McCain expects a decisive victory in the coming weeks after taking a commanding lead in the battle for the Republican presidential nomination, but he acknowledged Wednesday that he still faces the task of unifying the party in time for general elections in November.
The Arizona senator won nine of the 21 Republican state contests held Tuesday and received the lion's share of delegates on offer to the party's nominating convention in September, but McCain's moderate views on many domestic issues have drawn the ire of the party's conservative base and right-wing talk-show hosts.
Chief rival Mitt Romney has attacked McCain as a 'liberal' and sought to rally conservatives to his cause, but that effort has been frustrated by Mike Huckabee, a Baptist preacher who scored a number of big victories in the South on Tuesday.
'Do we have a lot of work to do to unite the entire party? Sure,' McCain said at a press conference in Phoenix, Arizona. 'After the campaigns are over you've always got the task of uniting the party behind the nominee.'
'I've spent my political career doing that, and I'm confident we will do that with the Republican Party now,' he said.
McCain said he cancelled a trip to Europe this weekend to focus on upcoming state contests in Washington state, Kansas, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Colombia.
'Hopefully we can wrap this thing up, unite the party, and be ready to take on the Democratic nominee in November,' he said.

Didn't know Bush wasn't a conservative when he got voted in. We know ahead of time that John McKennedy isn't. Big difference. I'll be writing some other candidates name when I cast my vote.
Senator McCain is handling this situation very foolishly. The base of the GOP is NOT going to accept him as one of their own. They will NEVER trust him. They will NEVER support him wholeheartedly and all he has done by asserting his 'conservative credentials' is to infuriate them. Even if Senator McCain wins the general election, he will lack the support of his own party and he will therefore be next to helpless in dealing with congress. No Republican legislator is ever going to feel any overwhelming loyalty to him.
Given a choice between Senator Obama and Senator McCain during the general election, my vote will go to Senator Obama. If we are to elect a leftist, then let us elect a genuine leftist and not a leftist pretending to be a conservative. Let the real leftists bear the responsibility for leftist policies.

Calling McCain a 'liberal' is just asinine. Voting for Obama because of it is idiotic. Obama hasn't done anything other then be the correct color. He is the flavor of the month and the darling of the press but this job is too important to trust to a fad.
John McCain has demonstrated next to no loyalty to the GOP. On what grounds does expect loyalty from GOP members. More importantly, why should any member of the GOP offer the man any loyalty? There is no basis in reason for such a relationship, I don't care what Rush Limbaugh thinks or doesn't think.

Find me a place where Senator McCain effectively addresses this country's energy needs on his website. He fails to mention it even as a national security concern.
Go to Mitt Romney's site and have a look at what you will find for an energy policy there. It wants for detail but it is very clear that someone with an engineering background reviewed the policy with Governor Romney and his advisers. As much as I dislike Mitt Romney, he is the only candidate out of the five remaining who is doing a professional job of planning his work.
Senator McCain will NOT do well as President of the United States. He flies by the seat of his pants and is impetuous. If the country is to be ruined, then let it be ruined by bloody democrat.
I hope Romney does not quit. McCain is a lair and a snake. He does not deserve to be the President of our great country. Obama and Clinton are less than honest in anything. Not one of these 3 people deserve to be President. Clinton like her husband have been on the take for years and the media hides this fact. Obama has been shown to be on the take and it was Clinton who outed that fact. It is to bad we can not fire the whole bunch but if you are not dirty in politics in D.C. from the taste of power, it is hard to get in and represent the people honestly. The likes of these people try to shut you out of any good things you hope to bring to the government.

That won't be too difficult to get used to; after all, we've had a brain dead president in office for two terms now.
