Obama, Clinton in Wyoming as campaign tone goes negative

Mar 7, 2008, 17:34 GMT

Washington - The race between Democratic presidential rivals Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton has taken an increasingly nasty tone in the run-up to Wyoming's nominating contest on Saturday.

Obama, still the frontrunner in convention delegates won in the series of state-by-state contests - with Democrats having voted already in 40 of the 50 states - hopes to regain some momentum in the Wyoming caucuses after a strong Clinton comeback Tuesday in the Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island primaries, which plunged the tight race back into uncertainty.

Obama on Friday was forced to distance himself from a foreign- policy advisor who called Clinton 'a monster' in an interview with The Scotsman newspaper, referring to the New York senator's campaign tactics.

Samantha Power, a Harvard University professor, called her remarks 'inexcusable' and said she would resign from the campaign.

Obama on Wednesday had credited Clinton's 'negative' campaigning with carrying her to recent victories, and challenged the former first lady to release her 2006 tax returns and documents that would shed light on her role in husband Bill Clinton's White House.

Clinton aides accused Obama's inquisitions of 'imitating Ken Starr,' harking back to the independent prosecutor that investigated Bill Clinton's indiscretions and scandals in the White House through the 1990s.

Clinton herself charged that she and Republican candidate John McCain, who secured his party's nomination on Tuesday, were the only candidates with enough national security experience to lead the country in a time of war.

'Senator McCain will bring a lifetime of experience to the campaign, I will bring a lifetime of experience, and Senator Obama will bring a speech he gave in 2002,' Clinton said Thursday during a meeting with a group of retired military generals supporting her candidacy, deriding Obama's claim that he opposed the war in Iraq in a speech two years before his election to the US Senate.

Obama is expected to win the contests Saturday in Wyoming and Tuesday in Mississippi, after which the two candidates will have more than a month to prepare for the last big-state primary in delegate- rich Pennsylvania on April 22.

The Obamas hate the USAMar 7th, 2008 - 18:02:25

Again, we are given the chance to hear Michelle Obama, a wealthy, privileged, admired educated woman, disparage the nation that presented her with the opportunities that gave her everything she has.

Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents. “We have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day,” she said, as heads bobbed in the pews. “Folks are just jammed up, and it’s gotten worse over my lifetime. And, doggone it, I’m young. Forty-four!”

From these bleak generalities, Obama moves into specific complaints. Used to be, she will say, that you could count on a decent education in the neighborhood. But now there are all these charter schools and magnet schools that you have to “finagle” to get into. (Obama herself attended a magnet school, but never mind.) Health care is out of reach (“Let me tell you, don’t get sick in America”), pensions are disappearing, college is too expensive, and even if you can figure out a way to go to college you won’t be able to recoup the cost of the degree in many of the professions for which you needed it in the first place.

I have to tell you, of all the maddening aspects of a maddening political campaign, this is the worst. Listening to this spoiled woman pi*s and moan about lack of opportunity is a lesson in hypocrisy. Her very existence disproves the position she is promoting. Michelle Obama is more successful and than all but a tiny fraction of all humans who have ever lived. She has more wealth, health, education, power and admiration than 99.99% of all Americans of all races. She wasn’t born to her high position in life. She attained it from humble beginnings in a middle class African American family in South Chicago. She attained her wealth and status by living in a time and place in history where great opportunity is available to all who are willing to work to achieve it. That should be her message: America provides opportunities for great success to those willing to put in the effort.

Instead of celebrating the blessings of life in the land of opportunity, she tells people that they are victims of America. She tells them they are powerless to attain anything of value. She preaches that opportunity does not exist except through the benevolence of the federal government as administered by her husband. She panders to those who have had less success taking advantage of the opportunities presented them. She wants them to believe that they have no control over their own situations in life. She wants them to be dependent. Michelle Obama’s life is a lesson in the benefits of life in America but she prefers to peddle hopelessness with her husband as the only path to salvation. It is sickening.

SP4: so, what's new?Mar 7th, 2008 - 18:26:06

The Libnazi fundimental premise is this:

There is something, fundamentally, wrong with America.

This is borne out almost every day. They are never happy: they dislike everything you do, how you live, what you drive, what you eat, how you raise your children, how you vote, who you vote for (unless it's them) and are convinced they are the answer.

If the Catholic Church says 'pick up your cross and follow us' the Libnazi church says 'we'll nail the crosses together and hand them to you every day, as you leave the door.'

The mission here is to turn America into a socialistic monolith, with it's citizens enslaved. They already have you paying a secret tax on just about everything, i.e. the trial lawyers, in the most litigious nation on earth.

Now, with carbon taxes, and recycling that tripled garbage costs( while they still truck it to a landfills!) environazi laws designed to triple the cost of living your life have been institutionalized so you have no input. Everything from chemicals to steel is being outsourced due to an industrial base that they have wiped out over the last 30 years, along with the fully paid health care those job provided.

They have ramrodded lopsided trade laws through, then actually go back to those they affected and insinuated they were not to blame. They ignored terror for 30 years, while eating the cake and ice cream of the peace dividend, then act flabbergasted when it comes to our door.

You know, there is something wrong with America;

Liberals.

There are two bad things happening here. First is the Obama versus Clinton contest itself. It is eating up ninety percent or more of cable and network bandwidth. The other thing is this silly crap over criticizing The Clintons. So what this woman called Hillary Clinton a monster? She is a monster, all you had to do was take one look at Chris Mattews' face on Hardball today while discussing this 'non story' to understand what kind of MONSTERS The Clintons are.

This could have and should have been over with by now. Now it will go on just like it is going on right now until June. Oh, I am so unimpressed.

Read this and understand just how silly Ms. Power's behavior is:

www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/artic le3507714.ece

Shippet 1:'David Axelrod, Mr Obama’s strategist, later responded by threatening to dredge up material about Mrs Clinton’s past – including the Whitewater scandal – but her campaign was swift to compare him to Ken Starr, the notorious investigator who hounded the White House in the 1990s.'

So if any campaign looks into The Clintons' past, they will be awarded a 'Starr' by The Clintons and our Clintonista Media.

Snippet 2:'Ms Power’s resignation today came after Mrs Clinton’s campaign had successfully capitalised on her remarks by contrasting it with Mr Obama’s high-moved rhetoric.

Ms Power made the offending remark during a trip to London this week in which she was apparently too candid about the problems facing the Obama campaign.

'We f***** up in Ohio,' she told the newspaper. 'In Ohio, they are obsessed and Hillary is going to town on it, because she knows Ohio's the only place they can win.

'She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything,' Ms Power added. The newspaper described her as 'hastily trying to withdraw her remark'

And our concupiscent press says, ''Yep, that was unforgivable. Powers had to go. It was over the line!'' Yak-yak-yak. What an unforgivable farce!

Has anyone listened to the ANY of the media here of late?

Sean Hannity on the radio: ''Hillary! Hillary! Hillary! Hillary! Hillary! Though negative, who does he talk about? Hillary! Why give the Clintons all this air time?

Rush Limbahgh: ''Hilary, Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, Hilllary, Hillary!

Uh-huh, way to go, Rush!

ABC? The same.
NBC? The same.
CBS? The Same.
Fox News? The same.
MSNBC? The same.
CNN? NOTHING ELSE!

Guess who will win the general election with this kind of coverage? Why, The Clintons! Who else? No other candidate seems to exist. All we EVER hear about is HILLARY.

Have we yet to hear what John McCain intends to do if elected? NO! I have to think that he has been trying to get his message out, but all the media seems to have time for is Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, Hillary. Even among the so-called 'right wing' radio hosts, it's Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, Hillary!

It's enough to make conspiracy theorist out of me.

SP4:Better take another look, TonnyMar 8th, 2008 - 16:09:36

Now you're faced with something really scary: a republican who's not all that republican.

This guy has about the same take on Iraq as Hillary. Outside of some rhetoric, they are essentially the same. Oh, she'll pull a few folks out, for show, but she's not running away. I know this because she helped greenlight it in the first place.

As for health care, if you remember correctly, she made mostly noise about that too. If you want to compare health care, compare Arizona and New York.

Hillary will fund fed ed, cut the No-Child-Left-Behind act and feed the mouths of the teachers unions, but the vouchers even liberals are now crying for will never happen.

Global Cooling, etc. will get the same treatment, becuase, let's face it, she doesn't buy it either, it's just for show, and all the perks she gets for pimping it. Curiously, Obama, and his Big Coal connections puts him farther to the right of both of them! Not a good sign, Tonny.

Only on Judges and appointments will MCCain stay to the right. He's for abortion, has no conservative economic bents to speak of and goes either way on a whole other range of issues.

The reality is, he's a coalition builder. This could actually be a good thing for all these pet causes of yours, but you're too blind to see it. Fact is, I haven't even decided if I'm voting for him yet.

In reality, he's not much of a republican. I suspect the party is transforming itself and this is the outward sign.Seriously, unless Obama is nominated, and she'll likely deal him out at the convention, you can just about roll the dice between Hillary and McCain.

Since you don't, allegedly, live in the USA, you aren't under any pressure to worry about it. Better go look at what the President of the Czech republic is saying about Global Warming, in todays WSJ. Him, Putin, China, Italy.....I think the novelty of this is passing...like warm weather.

You miss the point, Tonny, but to answer your question, if I knew this about McCain I would be far less upset than I am. I do not have any idea where John McCain intends to take this country. Even after reading what he has posted on his website, I find that his intentions remain about as clear the lower reaches of the Mississippi river. I suspect that the many does not know himself and that is an alarming situation.

heh...i'm the complete opposite of most of you guys.

throughout school i've always been a pretty straight forward kid. of course, got the living crap scared out of me when the DARE dog came around....so even in high school i never touched any kind of drugs. however, i did not look down on people who did it...its was simply a choice.

for the most part, i was under the illusion that drugs kill you and since weed is labeled as a drug...weed would kill you too.

how naive....

i went to an ivy league college after HS and majored in neuroscience. alot of neuroscience is chemical reactions in the brain and how the brain 'works' through these reactions. all through my freshmen year, i stayed away from weed even though almost every person i knew smoked (i mean...ivy league college..what do you expect). the funny thing was that my freshman roommate just so happened to be one of the biggest dealers on campus.

oh the irony....

sophmore year, i took a drugs and behavior class that satisfied one of the requirements for my major. during this class, my professor taught the material with an extremely opened mind and explained different drugs and their effect on the brain. it was here that i finally learned truth about all the lies that were told to me in the past.

few days after my professor gave a lecture on marijuana and how thc had less negative effects on the brain than alcohol.......i bought my first bag and i've been in love ever since. 5 years later, i'm now beginning vet school and still toking away.
