Considering the poll was of only 1,364 people with a 3% margin of error and the current US population is 303 million people. I do not believe that is a large enough sampling to conclude that this is what 81% percent of Americans think.

Nonetheless, the counterfeiter above is correct.

Let's get rid of a guy as president who used drugs, never served, had minimal experience, and replace him with someone who used drugs, never served and has minimal experience.

Doug - your knowledge of information placed in front of you appears abysmal - what do you think 3% margin means? Answer - 78% to 84% - which takes care of all your whinges about the sample size.
So 'a very large proportion - between 78% and 84% thinks this way !

The good news is that SP4 is delusional. Paying the so-called
'Awakening' ex-terrorists $300-400/month, and other factors, has probably been more temporarily effective than the surge in containing violence in Iraq. The bad news is that the surge should have happened in Pakistan, where we should have gone after liberating Afghanistan from the Taliban and al-qaeda in 2002.

Even though SP4 believes that the polls are just 'libnazi lies', I find it more than curious that the highest percentage of respondents who thought that we were going in the right direction peaked in the months right after 9/11, when we had the mission to get osama bin laden and the terrorist al qaeda gang responsible for 9/11 in Afghanistan/Pakistan.
Is there a correlation between our not getting osama bin laden, and not destroying the al-qaeda in Pakistan, and the poll respondents lack of satisfaction with the direction of our country?

Two days ago this last Wednesday, I decided to go to my local Kroger to pick up a few groceries and buy gas (at $3.19 per gallon!). I noticed that the store was unusually heavily trafficked. So while browsing the aisles and waiting to check out, I decided to do my unscientific study. I checked to see if there had been a change in how people shopped, and ALAS, there had been.

People NOW took their times checking for bargains, and used stacks of coupons. I had never seen that before. If that doesn't give you a good picture of what the economy is doing to folks, nothing else will!

BAGHDAD — More than 1,000 Iraqi soldiers and policemen either refused to fight or simply abandoned their posts during the inconclusive assault against Shiite militias in Basra last week, a senior Iraqi government official said Thursday. Iraqi military officials said the group included dozens of officers, including at least two senior field commanders in the battle.

=============================================

Back to Statistics 101 for you, knucklehead. 81 percent is definitive, and since imbeciles like SP4 refuse to admit to reality, the number is likely higher than that.

www.publicagenda.org/polling/polling_error.cfm

The bigger the sample, the smaller the margin of error, but once you get past a certain point -- say, a sample size of 800 or 1,000 — the improvement is very small. The results of a survey of 300 people will likely be correct within 6 percentage points, while a survey of 1,000 will be correct within 3 percentage points, a lower margin of error. But that is where the dramatic differences end — when a sample is increased to 2,000 respondents, the margin of error drops only slightly, to 2 percentage points.

(The public some somewhat resigned to Iraq's remaining a disaster so long as the GOP is in office. The economy, however, hits everyone directly)

www.nytimes.com/2008/04/04/business/04cnd-econ.html?hp

The economy shed 80,000 jobs in March, the third consecutive month of rising unemployment, presenting a stark sign that the country may already be in a recession.

Sharp downturns in the manufacturing and construction sectors led the decline, the biggest in five years. The Labor Department also said employers cut far more jobs in January and February than originally estimated.

The unemployment rate ticked up to 5.1 percent from 4.8 percent, its highest level since the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in September 2005. More Americans looked for work than in February, when many simply took themselves out of the job market. But employment opportunities remained sparse.

unemployment rose to over 5%. In the last year over 1 million workers became unemployed. Add in the wives and children, that is probably over 4 million people affected. What about the businesses affected by those people who can no longer buy food, cars, dish washers, etc? And what about those people who work at those businesses? How secure are their jobs? Anybody who says the economy is fine is a person who needs a reality check.

The economy has radically changedApr 4th, 2008 - 17:09:15

We're popping a bubble based on lower interest rates under Greenspan leading to overvalued housing, and the banks and other institutions over-leveraged themsekves based on inflated mortgage values. Credit went to too many who should not have qualified.

Labor-intensive manufacturing continues to move overseas, while the country's economic success is based on design and engineering skills, and high-tech prodycts that require less direct labor and more automation.

The dollar's fall helps with exports, but is ultimately inflationary as the Fed prints more money, and oil is priced in dollars. Purchasing of foreign components used to build U.S.-built products increases our manufacturing costs, and the labor force then gets cut again.

------------

From George Soros' new book - I cannot go to the extremes that he does, but there are still the fundamental problems identified:

'The United States is facing both a recession and a flight from the dollar. The decline in housing prices, the weight of accumulated household debt, and the losses and uncertainties in the banking system threaten to push the economy into a self-reinforcing decline.

Measures to combat this threat increase the supply of dollars. At the same time, the flight from the dollar has set up inflationary pressures through higher energy, commodity, and food prices.

The European Central Bank, whose mission is to maintain price stability, is reluctant to lower interest rates. This has created a discord between U.S. and E.U. monetary policy and put upward pressure on the euro. The euro has appreciated more than the renminbi, creating trade tension between Europe and China.

The renminbi can be expected to catch up with the euro both to avoid prote ctionism in the United States and increasingly in Europe, and to contain imported price inflation in China. This will, in turn, increase prices at Wal-Mart and put additional pressure on the already beleaguered U.S. consumer.

Unfortunately this administration shows no understanding of the predicament in which it finds itself.'

Employers Cut Most Workers Since 2003Apr 4th, 2008 - 20:48:25

www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=al6UfrIfajSg&refer=home

April 4 (Bloomberg) -- Employers in the U.S. cut the most workers in five years last month, signaling that the economic contraction is deepening and that the Federal Reserve will continue to lower interest rates.

Payrolls shrank by 80,000, more than forecast and the third monthly decline, the Labor Department said today in Washington. The jobless rate rose to 5.1 percent, the highest level since September 2005, from 4.8 percent.

``This is the final blow,'' said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. in New York. ``It's clear the U.S. economy is in a recession. That's going to shake the confidence of investors and companies across the world and cause people to curtail spending in other countries.''

Traders raised bets the Fed will cut its benchmark rate half a point this month after central bankers already enacted the deepest reductions in borrowing costs in two decades last quarter. Officials signaled increasing concern about the economy and credit markets this week, with Chairman Ben S. Bernanke saying for the first time the U.S. may enter a recession.

What a weak minded bunch, those who post in my name. How much bigger of a bitch can you be, than to not have your own handle? Honestly, how insecure can people get, over an opinion from someone they've never met???

My favorite though, are the libnazis with a limit-switch in their ass that sets them off as some kind of Psychiatric expert, the moment they disagree with someone, tossing terms around they could never define, accusing people they've never met of narcotics abuse. (while excusing it for the public official of their choice!) This defines the libnazi church i.e. the Inquisition of the infidels.

I never said polls were libnazi lies, I only accused libnazis of lying. You can make a poll say anything you want, you cannot make people vote the way you wish for them to vote.

Again, I'm voting for Obama: he abused drugs, has no experience and never served. Heck, this is just like the last two Presidents we had!
