"DC Madam" who ran Washington escort service commits suicide

Washington - The so-called DC Madam, who was convicted last month of running a high-end escort service in Washington, apparently committed suicide at her mother's home Thursday in Florida, police said.
Deborah Jean Palfrey, 52, first gained notoriety last year when she threatened to make public the names of high-profile clients of her service, Pamela Martin & Associates.
She had claimed none of its activities had been illegal and that the women she employed were only to engage in fantasy role-playing with clients, and were not paid to have sex.
But a jury believed she had run a prostitution ring and convicted her on federal racketeering charges. She was to be sentenced this summer.
Palfrey 'apparently hung herself with a nylon rope' at her mother's home in Florida, Captain Jeffrey Young of the Tarpon Springs Police Department said in a televised press conference.
Her 76-year-old mother, Blanche, called police immediately on finding the body in a shed at her home, after waking from a nap, Young said.
Police found multiple suicide notes in the home, he said.
Palfrey was facing a likely sentence of four to six years in prison. She had been jailed for 18 months in the 1990s in connection with another prostitution ring she had run and had vowed in recent interviews never to return to prison.
David Vitter, a Republican senator from Louisiana, was the most prominent client of the escort service to be exposed and was forced to issue an apology for his actions last year. Vitter and other high- profile clients, including then-deputy secretary of state Randall Tobias, were not called to testify at her trial.

Women usually commit suicide by using pills, not a rope. I guess they want to leave a good looking corpse.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this is weird... let's ignore the reports that she 'apparently' committed suicide and look at this objectively...
She claimed to have records of very prominent DC insiders, just a few were released. (somewhat of a warning shot fired by her to the justice system)
In her last interview with ABC News, the reporter asked her about one of her ladies, Brandy Britton, who was also a professor at U of M, was outted and humiliated and ultimately committed suicide and the DC Madam's comments were
'I just keep my head high. I guess I'm made of something that Brandy Britton wasn't made of. You know, I, I've got something in me. What that is, it's, it can't be defined, but there's something in me that won't let 'em get away with it. And I'm not going to let these baztards get away with it.'
This sounds like a woman ready to fight to the end, not a woman ready to give up.
Her mom mentioned that she was acting normally just a couple hours before the incident.
Its not hard to see what's going on here... and I'm dissappointed there has been no objectionism by the media. I mean, the only people who would have a motive to do this would be very high in the government and i'm certain they would have some CIA operative smart enough to stage a suicide so that Deputy Dip in Florida won't 'see any signs of foul play'
