Washington - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Wednesday that he regretted having put his two young children through an extensive interview on a US entertainment show - an extremely rare occurrence for politicians.

Obama, who has typically been very protective of his children's public profile, appeared Tuesday night on NBC's 'Access Hollywood' with his wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha. The interview had been taped during Malia's 10th birthday party in Montana on July 4, US Independence Day.

Malia, appearing very relaxed before the camera, said that moving into the White House would be 'very cool,' joked about her father's boring speeches and taste in chewing gum, while Sasha, 6, asked when the family would be getting ice cream.

Malia and Sasha have appeared on stage with Obama on the campaign trail but had never spoken publicly until Tuesday's family interview.

Obama on Wednesday morning admitted he may have gone too far in allowing his children to speak on national television.

'I think that we got carried away in the moment. We were having a birthday party and everybody was laughing, and suddenly this thing cropped up,' he told NBC.

'We wouldn't do it again, and we won't be doing it again,' he said.

Oh, let's just make a giant big deal out of this! Read the entire story of how they happened to be included in the interview - it wasn't preplanned, and most people would be interested in a candidate's family anyway. It isn't like he is going to exploit his children. Other candidates and politicians have certainly showcased their families.

I didn't see the interview. Whasssup? Has there been an 'outcry' over it? Why is B. Hussein so upset over doing it; he's just another opportunistic politician (forget the 'Candidate of Change' stuff) who will take any opportunity to exploit anything or anybody for political gain. Is his conscience starting to bother him or something?

Say it ain't so.

So Obama was for the interview before he was against the interview.

Okay then. Seems all that change he was talking about was all about changing his ming at least once a day every day.

This guy changes his positions on everything he does day to day and even hour by hour. I used to firmly believe he was a hardcore left winger with an agenda. Now I can't figure out where he stands on anything!

Didn't they learn anything from the Kerry campaign?

Vote for Change - by the hour!

OK guys...
This is so innocent and yet many of you will attack Obama on it. Get used to this: He is a really good dad, as seen by how candid his daughter was in the interview. Obama regrets doing it because he is a good father and feels he made a mistake by allowing his guard to be down. All wisdom is gained through recognizing mistakes. But the interview was a rare look at normal life for a man who will very likely be our next leader.

i saw the interview and Barack seemed like he regretted agreeing to it while it was happening. it was a not great decision on his part, and I think that in itself says a lot.

I'd like to hear Cindy McCain say more than 2 sentences in a TV interview but she won't because she's window dressing and she's loaded with inherited dollars. Unfortunately, the candidates are subject to 'gotcha' politics nowadays so, like many of the above posts display, many people don't care about the issues, they just care who the friends of the candidates friends are and what their middle names are. Let's discuss issues, not kids, not middle names, not minor changes of heart. There's too much at stake in this election and most of the previous posters are apparently staying with the ruling party and the American Errorist policies of GWB.

I think it's a great opportunity to get to know the family. After all we all know that Bush's daughters have been interviewed over the years. They've been in trouble for partying, and underage drunkeness, and insubordination. That's a lot worse than two innocent girls talking freely. I think it was a light and enjoyable experience getting to know the human side of Obama. I think everyone that is thinking he was an opportunist and threw the kids to the wolves is wrong. He was being an opportunist, but wanted to show America that he is a responsible family man and not out of control like Bush and other political candidates.

The candidates should keep their kids out of it. They didn't choose to be in the spotlight and there are plenty of mean people out there ready to rip the kids apart-leave them out and let Mom and Dad face the fire. Once they're of legal age, if they choose to enter they fray, then they're fair game.

Obama has changed his mind on so many issues, it is hard to know just where he stands on anything. One thing is sure, according to his book (Audacity of Hope), he states and I quote: ' I shall stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction:. Now that is Muslim Patriotism.

He has changed so many times, I-Hop is thinking of naming a pancake after him. The would call it 'The Obama Flip-Flop Flapjack'.
