Pregnant woman killed, baby cut from womb

Jul 20, 2008, 16:09 GMT

Washington - Police in the US city of Pittsburgh found the body of a pregnant woman whose baby had been cut from her womb, media reports said Sunday.

The body was found at the apartment of a 38-year-old woman who went to a hospital in the city earlier this week, carrying a newborn baby with its umbilical cord still attached, the reports said.

The woman claimed she had paid 1,000 dollars for the infant.

The news channel CNN said the woman had been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and and dealing in infant children, but not with murder.

Press reports citing court records said the woman had once attacked another woman with a knife and tried to steal her newborn baby.

Earlier this year, a woman from Kansas was sentenced to death in the 2004 killing of a woman whose baby was cut from her womb.

The woman got to know her 23-year-old victim via the internet and visited her at her home on the pretext of wanting to buy a dog from her.

The pregnant woman was found strangled in her Missouri home, with her womb cut open and and her unborn child missing.

'so called United States'?

You only use 'so called' when you're claiming that the name applied is somehow inaccurate or unwarranted. The country is composed of a number of states which are united under a Federal Government. The term is literally accurate. You lose.

Screwed up enough to make keeping the death penalty justifiable.

True, but this women is obviously a sick and twisted human being. By killing her we as a country as acting out in a sick and inhumane manner. She needs help and supervision for life, not lethal injection.
