Report: US could have vast archive of Guantanamo tapes
Aug 5, 2008, 10:17 GMT
Washington - The US could be holding a huge cache of tapes of interrogations of Guantanamo prison camp detainees by agents from the inmates' home governments, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
The newspaper found evidence suggesting such audio and video recordings were made in documents obtained used a formal request under the Freedom of Information Act, a US law that requires government disclosures of certain categories of documents.
Apparent form letters sent by the US State Department to foreign governments with citizens detained in Guantanamo said, 'The United States will video tape and sound record the interviews between representatives of your government and the detainee(s) named above.'
Hours of videotapes were released last month in Canada showing a Canadian teenager, who was captured on the battlefield in Afghanistan, being questioned at Guantanamo by security officials from Canada.
The US Defence Department has previously denied widespread taping of Guantanamo interrogations.

It seems that nothing can be believed!
Indeed. When it comes to politicians, governments, businesses and churches, nothing can be taken at face value. It is not that I have become cynical over the years, it is all the lies that have jaded me. Their lies may work for the short term, but the truth always comes out. Eventually.
It is wise for a person to be suspicious and cautious.
