Former White House hopeful Edwards admits to extramarital affair

Washington - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted that he had an extramarital affair during his White House campaign, according to excerpts of an interview Friday with US broadcaster ABC.
Edwards, who was 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry's running mate and a possibility for the spot again under Barack Obama, admitted to an affair with Rielle Hunter, a 44-year-old filmmaker who produced documentaries for Edwards' campaign.
Edwards' wife Elizabeth was diagnosed in 2004 with breast cancer, which resurfaced in March 2007, this time as an incurable bone tumour.
Edwards told ABC that the cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter. The couple have two school-age children and an older daughter.
Edwards had categorically denied media reports of the affair during his campaign for the White House, and the exact details and length of the relationship were still unclear. Edwards confirmed to ABC that he had visited Hunter at a Los Angeles hotel as late as last month.
Edwards denied that he was the father of a child that Hunter gave birth to in February, though he has not yet taken a paternity test. A former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has reportedly admitted to fathering the child.
ABC was to broadcast a full interview with Edwards Friday night.

Her cancer was in remission at the time of the affair - so does that mean he thought it was ok as the cancer wasn't active? - gimme a huge break here!
It is none of our business where a man sticks his wick.
So a guy has an affair... with a grown woman. That's boring. Makes him seem almost human. That's why republicans will always trump democrats for entertainment value. Republicans go for the adolescent boys working as congressional pages, or gay sex in airport men's rooms. Haha, now that's entertainment.
It IS the public's business when a public figure does some major cheating and lying, especially when it's someone who you are going to put your trust into to conduct an important job. The point isn't that he was cheating so much as all the sneaking around and constant lying. Looking at the tape of him answering questions about the infidelity a while back, it is so obvious he was lying when he answered that even a blind person could have seen it! I hope his wife kicks him where it would double him over, then keeps kicking 'till he's out of their home!

Seeing as Edwards is the queen of meterosexuals I am surprised his affair was with a woman.

unless he makes a stand on 'family values'. same goes for anti-gay people who turn out to be gay themselves also. it's between him and his wife. i would only hold it against him if he had continued to lie about it. this only proves that he shouldn't have gotten married, he obviously wasn't ready. nothing else.
He was in the running to head this country, so the fact that he is a major liar is going to make an impact on the public! And it proves that he's just another male who leads with his crotch! It's almost like he's saying 'poor me, my son died, my wife had to go get cancer, so I have a right to make myself feel better.'
I understand that a lot of stress can have an adverse affect on people's ability to combat their cancer. I hope John can live with his selfish actions.

EDWARDS made this public and an embarrassment to himself and his family when he was asked in a TV interview about his infidelity, and he kept insisting he was innocent. HE is the one who wanted a public life and should have been smart enough to know he couldn't do his little deed without getting caught and that it would be news! And as far as being a busybody - you apparently read this article and commented on it - so go back to your little trailer in the backwoods with the rest of the inbreds if other people's comments disturb you so much!

Is there a faithful husband out there? And are so many women just plain sleeping around with whoever comes along - married or not? I'm rapidly losing faith and confidence in people who are supposed to be held in higher regard than joe blow at the corner pub! And WHY do these people think they will ever get by with these actions?
