Arkansas state Democratic Party chairman shot dead

Aug 14, 2008, 0:47 GMT

Washington - The chairman of the Arkansas state Democratic Party, Bill Gwatney, 48, was shot dead Wednesday at the party headquarters in Little Rock, police said.

A gunman walked into the office, asked to speak to Gwatney and fired several shots, fatally wounding him. He died four hours later in hospital.

The shooter fled in a pickup truck, was chased by police and killed in an exchange of gunfire on a highway, the Arkansas Democrat- Gazette reported.

Police later identified the gunman as Timothy Dale Johnson, 50. They recovered additional weapons from his truck.

Gwatney, whose family owns an auto dealership in the state, was to attend the Democratic presidential convention later this month.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama released a statement saying he was 'heartbroken to hear about the tragic loss of Chairman Bill Gwatney. We're praying for his family and friends and all who worked with him and loved him.'

it was some Republican't nut bar who did the shooting. But then to use Republican't and nut bar in the same sentence is a redundancy. Let's see EssPee and company try and flog this one off on the Clintons or Obama.

Oh no, here we go again. The anti-gun lobby will be out in force, but the simple fact is that if Mr. Gwatney had had a gun, he could have defended himself. He could have merely said, Mr. Gunman, please don’t shoot me as I am going to get my gun out of my briefcase to defend myself. Better yet, the Mr. Gwatney could simply keep his gun out at all times and point it at everyone who walks into his office. That would have prevented this. Besides, control of guns would take away the right of this law abiding citizen from letting off steam because he lost his job. But instead of a rational discussion about the need to defend one’s self and the right to bear arms, we are going to hear more of this drivel about the sickness of our “gun” culture. And ignorance and tragedy continue…

We saw this in the Duke rape case.

We see this on global climate change.

We've certainly seen it in a failed dem lib energy policy for the last 30 years.

Now, one crazy shoots an Arkansas political wag and the rest of you above behave like you are in a sewing circle.

People get shot every day in America, and the press hardly even covers it.

'...draw very specific conclusions with virtually no, or very limited, facts.'
EssPee is full capable, and does it all the time, of drawing very specific conclusions with absolutely no facts whatsoever. And when he can't do that, he goes straight to rumor and innuendo. When that fails, he goes into the Josef Goebbels propaganda mode.

EssPee can't remember if he said it before. That what drugs do to the brain. They destroy memory. Also, the fool is a one-trick pony, he only 'knows' one thing and has to repeat it, in order to justify an otherwise meaningless existence.

You mean like your constant reference to drugs? Seriously, SP4 has more meaningful comments on one post than you've had in your whole existence, whether you agree with him or not.

I find that folks who talk a lot about drugs usually do so from experience. That does not paint you in a very flattering picture, even if your stepfathers are Caucasian.

It is SP drug addicts behavior, dickweed. He needs to be continually reminded of his addictions, in the hope that he will see the light, through the pot haze, and go to rehab. As for the rest of your post, it is utter claptrap, the kind of deflectionary tactic to be expected from the republican't nut bars. And no, EssPee drug addict, that post by FPP(Fricking Pansy Poofter)doesn't sting at all, even IF there were a modicum of truth to it.
