McCain promises 'change,' slams his own party (3rd Roundup)

St Paul, Minnesota - John McCain touted his military service and record as a reformer in seeking to reclaim the mantle of change from his Democratic opponent in a speech accepting the Republican Party's presidential nomination on Thursday.
McCain slammed his own party for having 'lost the trust of the American people' over eight years in office through corruption scandals and partisan politics.
'Let me offer an advance warning to the old, big spending, do nothing, me first, country second crowd: change is coming,' McCain said.
McCain, a 26-year Arizona senator but with a maverick reputation, sounded many of the anti-establishment themes that have been the cornerstone of Democratic rival Barack Obama's campaign for the presidency.
But McCain argued that he was the candidate with a proven ability to shake up Washington and bring opposing politicians together, in an attempt to rebuff the arguments of his Democratic opponents that he represents the policies and practices of his unpopular Republican compatriot, President George W Bush.
'We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us. We lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave in to the temptations of corruption,' McCain said. 'We're going to change that.'
'I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again. I have that record and the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not,' McCain said, alluding to his five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
McCain said his time in the military and in captivity had taught him the drawbacks of war and promised to use diplomatic and economic means in addition to military force to defeat US enemies.
'I hate war. It is terrible beyond imagination,' McCain said. 'I'm running for president to keep the country I love safe, and prevent other families from risking their loved ones in war as my family has.'
Soon after McCain began speaking, a heckler in the third deck of the ice hockey arena began shouting and held up a sign that read 'McCain votes against vets' on one side and 'You can't win in occupation' on the other.
As he shouted, the conventioneers drowned him out with chants of 'USA.' After the protestor was removed, a volunteer raised cheers from the crowd by emphatically ripping the sign into pieces, even using his teeth to help open a tear in the stiff cardboard.
McCain was preceded by his wife, Cindy, on the final night of the Republican National Convention in St Paul, Minnesota. Cindy McCain praised her husband as a military hero, dedicated father, a reformist and independent thinker.
'If Americans want straight talk and the plain truth they should take a good close look at John McCain ... a man who served in Washington without ever becoming a Washington insider,' she said.
McCain spoke of his military history as a fighter pilot who was shot down, captured and tortured for his country in the Vietnam War - a service regularly highlighted as a strong virtue during the convention, the theme of which was 'country first.'
'I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's,' McCain said. 'I was never the same again. I wasn't my own man anymore. I was my country's.'
McCain spoke of 'admiration' for Obama and his speech was relatively soft on attacks on the Illinois senator. But he took one subtle jab that played into Republican criticisms of Democratic nominee as a presumptive, celebrity-style politician.
'I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need,' he said.
Obama had earlier criticized the Republican four-day convention for a series of negative attacks on him and heavy focus on McCain's personal story, while talking little about economic issues.
'They've had a lot to say about me, but they haven't had anything to say about you,' Obama, a four-year senator from Illinois, said at a Pennsylvania rally.
'You haven't heard a word about how we're going to deal with any aspect of the economy that is affecting you and your pocketbook day- to-day,' he said.
In preparation for McCain's speech, the convention stage was retooled and the podium extended further out into the crowd of thousands of delegates, creating more of a townhall-style gathering, which is famously McCain's favourite type of venue.
Most of the placards waved by delegates were either printed or hand-lettered by volunteers with approved slogans and passed out on the convention floor. In the Kansas delegation, two women had rare homemade signs - apparently made from white, hotel trashcan liners - declaring 'Vote GI John and Superwoman' and 'American hero vs zero.'
McCain's speech followed Wednesday's address by his vice presidential candidate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who was a relatively unknown politician from one of the least-populated US states until selected as McCain's running mate last week.
More than 37 million people watched her convention speech, according to Nielsen Media Research, only abut 1 million less than watched Obama's acceptance speech last week.
It was unclear if McCain's acceptance speech would receive the same ratings. Thursday was also the opening night of the American football season, but the New York Giants-Washington Redskins game ended only minutes before McCain took to the stage.

McCain trashes his own party's record and then asks us to believe that his party is the solution to his party's poor record. It's sort of like your cousin who borrows money, refuses to repay it and then tries to convince you to loan him more money because he has changed.
McCain is part of the group that screwed the American citizens. He is part of the problem not the solution. He has no distinguishable difference with Bush on economic or foreign policy. He rightly asks people to enlist in the military because his foreign policy will require more depolyments for war.
The Republican nominee is not the solution to the problems that the Republican party caused.
The Obama Campaign's Out of Control Spending (abridged)
Compared to the McCain campaign, Obama has spent three-and-a-half times as much on payroll and benefits, ten times on event staging, two-and-a-half times as much on travel and lodging, and three times as much on food and meetings. Despite being given free protection from the Secret Service, which has proven sufficient for other candidates, the Obama campaign has spent nearly $400,000 on outside security consulting, nearly all of it paid to a security firm that specializes in dangers emerging from 'political instability, acts of terrorism, kidnapping, white collar crime, and cyber-attacks.'
Although the Obama campaign has portrayed itself as 'frugal' for making staffers take public transportation from O'Hare, FEC reports of the campaign's spending paint a very different picture. Obama's overhead is $10 million more per month than McCain's, and this is likely to increase substantially given his campaign's out of control spending and lofty plans for the general election.
Obama recently told reporters, 'I've never been a big entourage guy. … And that takes some getting used to.' Well, the size of Obama's campaign suggests he's gotten used to the idea very quickly. Before even locking up the nomination, Obama's paid staff was already in excess of 700 people. In the last month, Obama has hired dozens if not hundreds of staffers, and his National Field Coordinator said the campaign anticipates deploying more than 2,000 paid staffers to every state in the country. Sending 15 paid staffers to Texas might make a good sound bite, but politically speaking, it is flushing money down the toilet.
A paid staff of 2,000 is unheard of in the history of presidential elections. Consider that it's five times larger than Bush's campaign staff in 2004, which is the next biggest ever assembled. Indeed, Obama will have more people working on his campaign than President Bush currently has in the whole White House. And if Obama spends like this when he needs to raise the money himself, one can only imagine what he'll do when he can instead tap the tax coffers of the U.S. Treasury.
I like strong women. Maybe because I am one. I'm not threatened by other women's success. I applaud it because it raises the possibilities for all of us.... Judge us on our merits.
John McCain has surrounded himself with strong women. He pays them the same as he pays his male staffers. He's of an age where he could call women 'sweetie' but he doesn't.
Our John has said over and over we need to stay on offense. Not be victims. Wah, my former party threw me out, wah, can you believe what they said? Governor Palin is no victim. Had Senator Clinton delivered that speech during the primaries we would have a very different race right now. She would have been called shrill, too, of course. Shrill is code for - you just said something true I can't spin, wah!
If you had told me a year ago that I would watch the Republican convention and not the Democratic, that I would have switched to No Party Affiliation, that I would be voting Republican I would have told you to get off the pipe. If you had told me that it would be the Democrats criticizing a woman for not staying home with the kids I would have called you nuts. But, here we are.
As John said below, Governor Palin is the point of equal rights. You can't say she got where she is because of her husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather or any other man. She got where she is by herself. She doesn't want to pull the ladder up after her and she acknowledges the women who came before her.
That is a great message for all women.
Have a look at Obama lying:

I've been an imperfect servant of my country for many years. But I have been her servant first, last and always. And I've never lived a day, in good times or bad, that I didn't thank God for the privilege.
Long ago, something unusual happened to me that taught me the most valuable lesson of my life. I was blessed by misfortune. I mean that sincerely. I was blessed because I served in the company of heroes, and I witnessed a thousand acts of courage, compassion and love.
On an October morning, in the Gulf of Tonkin, I prepared for my 23rd mission over North Vietnam. I hadn't any worry I wouldn't come back safe and sound. I thought I was tougher than anyone. I was pretty independent then, too. I liked to bend a few rules, and pick a few fights for the fun of it. But I did it for my own pleasure; my own pride. I didn't think there was a cause more important than me.
Then I found myself falling toward the middle of a small lake in the city of Hanoi, with two broken arms, a broken leg, and an angry crowd waiting to greet me. I was dumped in a dark cell, and left to die. I didn't feel so tough anymore. When they discovered my father was an admiral, they took me to a hospital. They couldn't set my bones properly, so they just slapped a cast on me. When I didn't get better, and was down to about a hundred pounds, they put me in a cell with two other Americans. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even feed myself. They did it for me. I was beginning to learn the limits of my selfish independence. Those men saved my life.
I was in solitary confinement when my captors offered to release me. I knew why. If I went home, they would use it as propaganda to demoralize my fellow prisoners. Our Code said we could only go home in the order of our capture, and there were men who had been shot down before me. I thought about it, though. I wasn't in great shape, and I missed everything about America. But I turned it down.
A lot of prisoners had it worse than I did. I'd been mistreated before, but not as badly as others. I always liked to strut a little after I'd been roughed up to show the other guys I was tough enough to take it. But after I turned down their offer, they worked me over harder than they ever had before. For a long time. And they broke me.
When they brought me back to my cell, I was hurt and ashamed, and I didn't know how I could face my fellow prisoners. The good man in the cell next door, my friend, Bob Craner, saved me. Through taps on a wall he told me I had fought as hard as I could. No man can always stand alone. And then he told me to get back up and fight again for our country and for the men I had the honor to serve with. Because every day they fought for me.
I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency; for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place, but an idea, a cause worth fighting for. I was never the same again. I wasn't my own man anymore. I was my country's.
I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need. My country saved me. My country saved me, and I cannot forget it. And I will fight for her for as long as I draw breath, so help me God.
If you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you're disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist in our Armed Forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed. Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier. Because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself.
I'm going to fight for my cause every day as your President. I'm going to fight to make sure every American has every reason to thank God, as I thank Him: that I'm an American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith and a little courage, great things are always within our reach. Fight with me. Fight with me.
Fight for what's right for our country.
Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.
Fight for our children's future.
Fight for justice and opportunity for all.
Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.
Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.
Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We're Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.
Thank you, and God Bless you.
Anybody can spout a load of crap into a microphone - it means nothing.
What counts is DEEDS, contribution, history and experience.
All that matters is what a person HAS DONE, not what they say they are going to do. I can do that, but it does not mean I will do it.
McCain has done a lot in his long career, including fighting for his country and many years in politics, mostly defending what is right against his own party and others. OK he was a coward in Hanoi, but once home he can let loose his verbal defiance in safety.
Obama has done NOTHING. His career and contribution to the improvement of American society can be put on a postage stamp with heaps of room left over. he is no more than a coffee-boy jumped up to stardom.
The guy is a nobody, lifted up by crazy whites trying to achieve what Hollywood has not - A BLACK American President ! They tried the same sickening adventure with a WOMAN for President - but it failed.
Let these political freaks make their pointless speeches and simply IGNORE them.
With such a disgraceful choice for a new President, it is a one horse race - no contest - it just HAS TO BE McCain and suffer 4 years of lunacy until the next fiasco. Perhaps then, we will be faced with a decent and more sensible choice of candidates to vote for.
If McCain wants to distance himself from the Republican Party, why didn't he run as in Independent - ha!
..he took an oath to the Republicans of Arizona and John McCain, as his life plainly illustrates, takes things like that seriously.
That, and doing so would likely strip him of seniorities and committee posts, etc., compromising his ability to work with the people he has been able to be successful with.
This shows a great deal of maturity, and insight, rather than a useless show of worthless protest. After all, even Ron Paul is still a republican.
'Let me offer an advance warning to the old, big spending, do nothing, me first, country second crowd: change is coming, McCain said.'
I would be very impressed ... except for the years McCain spent backing up president Bush and his policies.

HYPOCRISY
LYING
CHEATING
STEELING
KILLING
His previous speeches in the real world says it all. A candidate will say ANYTHING to get elected, and will even sellout his own mother, wife, values, integrity or anything sellable.
Sarah would make a good talk show host at best. Palin, possibly running the country, would confirm my suspicions, that of the typical American voter as being a moron....at best.
That'd be fine, except for the glaring fact that she actually has more executive experience than Barak Obama.
That being the case, one really has to ask how folks like you do such skewed calculations to get to such erroneous conclusions?
Lance, take your meds...
Be afraid, be very afraid, boo, fear, fear, fear, did you know I was a POW? Boo, be afraid, fear, fear, fear, I am different just forget I supported Bush 90% of the time, fear, boo, fear, did you know I was a POW?
Same old tired crap and this morning another sign his party has taken us down the a nightmare economic road. Our unemployment is now 6.1% and rising, people are still dying in Iraq, OBL is still running around, gas is at least 50% more than when they took power, the Republican't senate is on a record breaking filibuster run being obstructionist as only their demented minds can accomplish. 61 dems in the Senate is my real dream, then things may happen.
McSame is more of the same, from the same party, with the same backing and will definately be GWB III. Maverick my as*.

'Hope 'n Change, Change 'N hope. Hopey change change changey hope hope hope. Bush bad hopey change. changy hope hopey change change, change change change....... HOPE! Hopey changey changey hope CHANGE... Did someone faint down there?' (suckers) Speaking of change, here's my running mate; JOE BIDEN! Because whenever you think of 'change' isn't the first thing that pops in to your head 'Joe Biden'? Oh well, there is still hope.
'McSame is more of the same, from the same party, with the same backing and will definately[sic] be GWB III. Maverick my as*.'
That appears to be all you have left. That and change for the sake of change (tossing the baby out with the bath water) Anyone with a brain in their head can see that there are stark differences between McCain/Palin and Bush/Cheney. I guess that's why you cant see it.
'I would be very impressed ... except for the years McCain spent backing up president Bush and his policies'
You should have a disclaimer on your posts. Something like:
*The following was brought to you by an islamist terrorist apologist who wants the world subjugated under the black flag of islam and sees McCain as more of an obstacle to that agenda then the sell out Obama.
Could there be a better endorsement for McCain then an islamist trashing him?
Oh come on!!! He's not a radical, unless by radical you mean voting with his party 95 percent of the time. Oh, and to the last poster, you sir, are a complete and utter fool, I hope you don't have kids, 'cause if you do, they must be REALLY screwed up. Now good day to you sir!!!
you like a strong woman.
why sure they all smell like sardines.
even mentally challanged can use a computer as proved by the above poster!
'Oh come on!!! He's not a radical, unless by radical you mean voting with his party 95 percent of the time.'
Most votes in the senate are unanimous or passed by unanimous consent, idiot.
'Oh, and to the last poster, you sir, are a complete and utter fool, '
Not a rebuttal, now was that 'Dan the conqueror'
'you like a strong woman.
why sure they all smell like sardines.'
Leftist feminism.
mentally challanged!!!
I watched news of McCain and Palin today from Wisconsin, and they were both reading word for word from a script. Neither one could hardly take their eyes off of them long enough to really look at the people they were talking to. I have a little problem with a candidate who needs a constant speech writer to carry them.
Sounds a bit like Lieberman doesn't it. He votes with them 90% of the time and then tries to throw them under the bus to look like a 'Maverick'. Did I mention McSame was a POW? Boo!
AND after the great speech of imponderables and promises that mean absolutely nothing unless backed up by accountability, the party faithfuls all waved Old Glory and sanctioned ;-
McCain as Presidential candidate.
Eskimo Nell as his VP.
AND passed unanimously that the party battle cry will be ;-
I`M DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS
JUST LIKE THE ONE`S WE USED TO KNOW.
If you depend on votes to win, it is no use drumming your lies and deceptions into your own troops, you have to drum them into the enemy, 'floating' voters and 'switchers'.
Obama has other problems - no intelligent person even listens to his dribble of garbage.
I heard Obama on today ad libbing about global warming and he sounded a lot more like GW Bush than JFK.
31 OCTOBER, 2010
Mr. President:
First the good news: your approval ratings have jumped dramatically in the last two weeks. You are now at 15% approval which is your highest in the last eighteen months. Primarily, this is due to your decision to stay away from all press conferences that do not use teleprompters.
The restoration of the Fairness Doctrine has enabled us better to manage the information coming out about the various problems of the Administration. The New York Times is continuing to work with us on getting your message out to their 86 subscribers, who are behind you 100% of the time.
Unfortunately, we are having a harder time controlling the Internet and cable television. Your initiative to impose the Fairness Doctrine on Internet bloggers and comments has not been as successful. In fact, it has backfired terribly because bloggers are now using remote servers overseas where we are unable to enforce the law. We have had the FBI pull more agents off of counterterrorism actions to confront these scofflaws, but they seem to pop up at a rate of 10:1 as soon as we arrest anyone.
Jamming continues against Rush Limbaugh's pirate ships that are broadcasting from offshore and Mexico, but your directives to use only alternative energy reduce their ability to jam his signals to just a few yards from the antennae. He is continuing to ignore your message of Hope, in spite of the law mandating that everyone have hope no matter how dire their personal situation is. His audience seems to be mostly amused by his suggestion that people should hope in one hand and defecate in the other, and see which fills up faster.
Your communications director, Keith Olbermann, continues to provide the press with the Administration's message from his position as head of NBC News, but their viewers seem to overlap with that of the New York Times, and we are having a difficult time with the other 310 million voters.
Senator Clinton continues her investigations of your Administration in her role as Chairman of the Senate and does not seem to be slowing down. She is now investigating if her proposed nomination to the Supreme Court is just an effort by you to derail her investigations and her already underway campaign to replace you in 2012. We have our operatives working on the matter, but they are unable to get through the barricade of women voters who are now saying 'We told you so!'
The financial markets continue to plummet as your phased-in increases of the capital gains tax are set for all gains after January 1st of 2003. The Supreme Court has upheld the retroactivity of the tax thanks to your appointment of Barbara Streisand who has tipped the balance of power there. It seems most of the Justices would rather kill themselves than have to deal with her legal reasoning, which has resulted in the recent spate of 1-0 rulings from the Court. Not to mention the pictures we have of Justice Kennedy with that sheep that he is not married to. We have instructed the Senate Banking and Finance chairs to begin investigation of market manipulations, but to be truthful, we could only leave a message on their answering machines since they refuse to take our calls.
Internationally, our emissaries continue to seek out anyone from the former terrorist group Al Qaeda to apologize for putting Boston in the path of their nuclear weapon. We are also having trouble with Russia, in that Tsar Putin is rejecting our message of hope and understanding. It seems he may be trying to mislead us as he continues mop up operations against Ukraine and the Baltic states. We have been assured that any images showing the destruction of the cities in those countries are just Photoshopped and not really indicative of what is happening on the ground.
Europe continues to reject your offers to mediate their desire to surrender to Tsar Putin, and this has been disappointing. It is our analysis that the Tsar may have bitten off more than he can chew as it seems that Al Qaeda appears to have declared war on the Russians as the infidels, thereby reducing any threats to our nation, except for San Francisco, which our scientists estimate will be able to be reoccupied in about 250 years if the anthrax eradication continues on schedule. Al Qaeda operations have continued against the Russian occupied cities of Prague, Vienna and Rome. We are having a difficult time getting reliable information from those areas due to the residual high levels of radioactivity. Our scientists continue to investigate if that radioactivity can be used as an alternative source of energy since it is in such abundant supply at the moment.
There is good news though in Korea, where Kim Jong Il has declared peace after the successful elimination of all resistance in Seoul. With the surrender of the Republic of Korea, our emissaries are now negotiating with those of the People's Republic so that you can have a face to face meeting with the Beloved Leader and negotiate his use of the trademarked word 'Change' in violation of international intellectual property rights laws.
Politically, we have not seen the benefits of a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. It seems that every Democratic Senator has decided that if you could become President they could too. Considering that they are all more qualified than you, all of them are now also running for President - with the exception of Senator Schumer, who seems to be running for the position of God. He believes that is his appropriate pay grade, since no one else has it.
Your staff wants you to know that we will continue to promote your message of Hope and Change as the solution to all of the Nation's problems. However, if you could, a few specifics would be greatly helpful. Not that we doubt your sincerity that Hope and Change will work, but we lack your intellectual firepower to figure out how to implement it.
In summary, we are eagerly awaiting the November elections, in which the Republicans are expected to retake majorities in both houses of Congress. At that time we will implement your proposed strategy of blaming them for everything once again.
The future never looked brighter, Sir.
Looks impressive to have Cindy stand by her man wearing clothes and jewelry in the thousands all the time he is trying to relate to the every day people and the bad economy.
'watched news of McCain and Palin today from Wisconsin, and they were both reading word for word from a script. Neither one could hardly take their eyes off of them long enough to really look at the people they were talking to.'
You are wrong 'Benson Smith' and ironic because you are regurgitating a moveon.org talking point. Sarah palin's teleprompter wasn't working right forher speech. Take obama off the teleprompter and he just drools.
=======================================================
Sarah Palin electrified the Republican convention Wednesday, all the while reading off a faulty teleprompter and an outdated draft, John McCain officials told FOX News on Thursday.
The Alaska governor overcame several glitches and technical problems to deliver her speech without getting flustered, impressing McCain and his staff and allowing them to breathe a sigh of relief.
Foremost of the obstacles, Palin’s teleprompter was not working properly. When she took the podium, the machine rolled so quickly, it often skipped the first line or two of every paragraph on screen. The operator said he had new equipment and wasn’t sure how it would work.[...]
During one part of her speech, she couldn’t see the teleprompter because signs were blocking it. That was when she ad-libbed a line about the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull — “lipstick.”
=======================================================
Obama off teleprompter:
'Uh... Uh.... Hope ......Uh....... Uh.......... Uh......... Change........ U........h..........'
'Looks impressive to have Cindy stand by her man wearing clothes and jewelry in the thousands all the time he is trying to relate to the every day people and the bad economy.'
And Micelle Obama showed up in stuff from walmart. Come on.
Wow it took longer than I expected but someone has officially attacked Cindy!!! This is the woman who has talked, walked, and LIVED as the example... Jaynie must be living under a rock, a transvestite with an gay agenda issue, or just walking around deaf, blind and dumb. Cindy has invested more money, time and effort into good works for the PEOPLE of the world and the USA than Janyie can earn in three lifetimes...
'Sounds a bit like Lieberman doesn't it.'
And Obama sounds a bit lie Ned Lamont. :-D
'Did I mention McSame was a POW? Boo!'
That really threatens you, that he served the USA when Obama has never served anything other then himself... Good.
Democrats in Trouble
By Dick Morris and Eileen McGann (ABRIDGED)
The convention floor was abuzz all yesterday with the news of the CBS poll showing a dead tie (42-42) in the presidential race. And the poll, conducted through Wednesday, couldn't reflect the impact of John McCain's speech, or the full impact of Sarah Palin's late Wednesday night. It reflected opinions only after the Democrats' convention, Barack Obama's incredible speech, the Palin selection and the early, Gustav-depressed GOP gathering.
That augers ill for the Democrats. Tonight's polling could bring evidence that the Obama candidacy is in big trouble.
First, the GOP convention managed to disprove the central premise of the Democratic assault on McCain: that he is a clone of President Bush. The Republicans wisely marginalized Bush to a non-prime-time videotaped speech, and sprinkled disappearing dust on Dick Cheney.
[...]
And McCain last night made the point plain: 'Let me offer an advance warning to the old, big-spending, do-nothing, me-first-country-second Washington crowd: Change is coming.'
[...]
The turning point was the designation of Palin and the personal attacks on her. By stirring up a storm, Democrats assured that Palin would speak to 37 million Americans - just a million fewer than watched Obama's acceptance speech.
Anecdotal evidence already suggests that women may have a gut reaction to the establishment's sexist assault on a woman candidate - and flock to McCain. They've seen him stake everything on this one big move of turning toward a woman - in direct contrast to Obama's deliberate decision not to name a woman.
They've seen the media and Democrats gang up on her and do their worst. And they've seen Palin stand up and stuff the challenge right back down the establishment's throat. All this may have created an entirely new dynamic in the race.
Now the Republicans must battle to underscore the threats this country faces, economically and internationally, and that we can't let an ingenue take over. They must capitalize on McCain's aggressive determination to bring reform to Washington and to emphasize Obama's inexperience and failure to grasp how to change Washington.
But it was McCain's gutsy selection of Palin that opened the door to victory.
I'm not saying anything against Cindy's good works -I am fully aware of it, but it just seems a little difficult to the average struggling American to relate to McCain with his wife strutting around in her $300,00 worth of clothes and jewelry. Seems like they would have had better sense than that, and don't think for a minute it wasn't noticed big time.
Change is coming alright, McCain, the Democrats will be in the White House.
stop exaggerating and don't be so jealous Jaynie.
No one's exaggerating - don't you read the news or watch TV - duh!
Too much rhetoric here, like the simpleton that declares McCain defended his country against it's enemies .For the record:Vietnam never threatened the USA in any way ever .It was the USA that attacked Vietnam, bombed the north with napalm, attacked cities and found themselves as an occupying force in a similar situation as in Iraq:in a war started with lies .So you lost that war an what happened afterwards:was your country inaded by the vietnamese or so ?McCainmight have done his miltary duty which was to bomb a civil population guilty of resisting te will of the USA but that does not make anybody a hero,on the contrary .A hero is somebody that dares to speak out against the pack and risk to be ostracized and persecuted for refusing to give in.
There was nothing to cure the diseases from which the USA suffers to be attentive listener of the acceptance speech, just more rhetoric and hollow phrases that would shame any other audience .More bombastic self praise from the party that pretends to represent a special breed of people and that appeals to the most basic instincts of those it has robbed of economical welfare, education and health care .When you lack all those goodies that make life bearable and pleasant you are left with patriotism. That costs nothing ,makes your breast sell, your eyes shed tears and fills your head with propaganda .But where is the program ?Until now not a single word has ever been uttered about how to extract the people from the crisis .THe governor of Alaska superbly inore the most obvious demonstrations of nature as it demonstrates wath the republicans have rejected:global warming .Eight years ago Bush nullified the Kyot protocol as it was deemed to harm the US economy .Never in human history a more stupid event occurred .He might just as well outlaw hurricanes and tell you al they are banned because they harm your economy. Can you grasp the stupidity of the GOP now ,when it is accelerating beyond the worst case scenario?Do you expect those that have been denying it to provide you with the right answers ?Thye republican party is the instrument of the oil industry and the armament sector of your economy.Rather than reconvert part of the weapon industry in the fight against global warming, they have left you all to stand in the cold (so to speak) and now your children and ours will suffer .
tonny, clean up your own lousy country.
'No one's exaggerating - don't you read the news or watch TV - duh!'
She wasn't decked out in billions of dollars worth of jewels and gowns. Indeed, she was tastefully presented. What was Michelle Obamas wardrobe worth?
If you think the Obamas are going to do anything for the economy by bankrupting the country by adding gigantic entitlement programs that we can't pay for and socializing entire industries you are fooling yourself.
Cindy McCain has actually helped the poor even to the point of adopting a child that needed life saving medical attention. Michelle Obama has done nothing but grab for a bigger piece of the pie for herself.
Hey, Precious! Fight Your Own Damn Battles. Seal Your Own Damn Deal.
Psst, Obama is a Weakling — Pass it on.
News last night from The NY Times, via Riverdaughter, that Obama has run home to Big Sister to plead with her to fight his battle with Saracuda Palin for him. Oh, the poor Precious! Can’t face a tough woman on his own, huh? What’s the matter Barack? Just tell Saracuda that she’s likable enough. Call her a Sweetie and tell the media that she gets moody and bitchy periodically when she’s feeling down. That oughtta work. Or send Sebelius — woo-hoo! I’m sure she can take on Palin and come out of the encounter victorious.
Nearly every single day, Barack Obama's campaign issues his latest tattle on whoever it is that has last offended his feelings.
And I must say, with appropriate solicitude, that it grieves me to witness a man who seeks to be the leader of the free world, a man who proclaims his fitness for the highest duty in the land, make a habit of whining and tattling every time he gets his wittle feelings hurt.
One shudders to think how our IslamoFascist enemies would deal with such girly-boy tirades.
Let's not even go there.
Let's just let that thought rest in peace, shall we.
Truly, it was bad enough when candidate Obama issued his string ofcomplaints against the other man in this contest, John McCain. It was bad enough when candidate Obama whined over how the words of his opponent's surrogates were breaking his fragile bones. One could nearly be brought to the brink of empathy for the city-boy, Barack, when his tormenters were men. But late Wednesday night, within minutes of the lovely lady, Mrs. Sarah Palin's speech in Minneapolis, the tattletale struck once again. I could nearly hear the girly-boy tantrum all the way over here in Atlanta.
I'm really having to hold back that shudder now.
Does Barack Obama actually think that Mrs. Sarah Palin, hockey mom, little lady from the sticks, is too tough for him? Tougher than Ahmadinejad, of Iran?
Now, this particular tattle on Sarah Palin came under the name of David Plouffe, Barack's campaign manager. I would have to guess that the candidate decided it might be seen as rather tacky if he, personally, whined over the vile 'attacks' made by that vicious lady in the skirt and heels, the one wearing the lipstick and the lovely gold necklace and earrings.
So, he delegated.
And his campaign issued what must be hailed as the most desperate, most childish, most pitiful tantrum so far in this contest for the Presidency.
'...Sarah Palin specifically mocked Barack's experience as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago...'
Well, I never!
'...John McCain's attack squad of negative, cynical politicians. They lied about Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and they attacked you for being a part of this campaign.'
Lovely use of Alinsky velvet-revolution tactics; include the little people.
And the fallback position of tattletales throughout history, the whole world over:
'It's now clear that John McCain's campaign has decided that desperate lies and personal attacks -- on Barack Obama and on you -- are the only way they can...'
Win. Yes, dear lad, winning is the aim of every competition.
Did your mommy fail to teach you that?
Now, as a voter, and as a lady and a mother, I must take the matter of all this incessant whining, complaining and tattling to heart, and consider carefully what is to be done about it.
The Country is at stake here.
This is no time for the faint of heart to play follow-the-leader with a lad, who simply cannot take the heat of even a verbal-only political fray, much less the heat of a kitchen, where a lovely moose is roasting in the oven.
So, Barack, dear, it is high time to grow up now.Toughen that hide a bit. And if you can't withstand the torture of the words of your opponents, please be good enough to turn in your hockey stick. We have some truly strong men and women, who can make better use of it in the service of this great Country. Oh, sorry, I nearly forgot: Barack and Michelle aren't all that proud of America.
Perhaps they ought to go play in Europe and leave the rest of us to get down to the work that needs to be done, right here, right now....

i agree with sp4
Jaynie didn't say billions, dorkheads, and it was in all the papers and TV about her parading around in her clothes and jewelry worth millions! Her errings alone were worth more than most people pay for a house. Just didn't use good taste under the circumstances - we all know she's worth over million, but the campaign isn't the place to show it if her hubby is trying to appeal to the regular people. Is that so hard to understand - double duh!
I'll make this a message for most people intelligent enough to make the distinction between what is important and what is utterly trivial:the jewellry one wears is absolutely trivial, trying to use it in a debate about political ideas is ridiculous and unworthy of a democracy .I doubt that I will find this kind of insane arguments when I browse the internet for the history of the first years of the USA;te founding fathers had more important issues to debate, and so should most people nowadays .Compare such trivialities with the urgent problems of unemployment, education (the lack of which is displayed sufficiently here in the posts as it seems many people have no clue of the issues ).
McCain promises changes if he gets elected .I can't find any information about those changes, none at all.It seems changes is a magic word for some .willhe improve on education ?Will he kick out the creationists from classrooms ?Will he cure the economy?Has he got a plan to mend the financial crisis that rocks the fundaments of your financial markets ?Has he got the intelligence necessary to do so ?
Are these not the most important issues ?Compare that will the silly comments about jewellry and others and then tell me there is no need for a better educational system .
That is what millions of you are behaving like.
There is absolutely no purpose bleating on about what 'he said' or what 'she said'. It is pointless. These actors say or are told to say whatever is thought YOU want to hear. It means nothing.
So all this silly juvenile chatter covering pages and pages is a waste of time. It is all so incredibly boring to read.
The two parties have left you with an extremely bad choice of Presidential candidates. Probably the worst choice America has ever had.
McCain is without a doubt a person who has all the qualities of Presidential leadership. From appearance, ability, many years political experience, outstanding military service etc. etc. Although not perfect by any means - he has it all.
Obama, the black Pinocchio has NOTHING. He has done NOTHING, his experience is NOTHING, to put it plainly - he is NOTHING. Americans would be mad to put a Janitor in command of the Stock Exchange !
So let us stop all this stupid and pointless chatter and behave like intelligent human`s, NOT MINDLESS DARLEKS.
Let's DO ask about the issues.
Tonny, however, would rather ramble on about 'intelligence' and so we, in order to be polite, need to, once again, digress from these so-important issues, which the left, campaigning with three times the money and for twice as long on the national stage, have managed to avoid.
Libnazis, like the above, seem to think they have some kind of multi-meter to measure 'intelligence'. This being the case, they, promptly, went out and nominated a neophyte candidate with no record of achievement, for no other reason than he is black. This 'community Organizer' who, for the life of us, we cannot find what, exactly he ever 'organized, is held up as the Einstein of Statesmanship, the golden(calf) standard of excellence, all with an Equal-opportunity handicap on the race-normed sliding scale.
Intelligent? Well, you CAN buy a pretty cool multi-meter these days!
Then, they send a woman, who managed 18,000,000 votes, to the showers in favor of a lifetime, obstructionist, plagerizing, unimaginiative, libnazi apparatachick who got fewer votes in his primary than the republiucan VP pick got when she was mayor of WalrusTusk, AK.
Intelligent?
Now, these same libnazis' with their golden calf-boy king, held on their shoulders like some Buddhist child-god, dressed up with a bewildered look on his face, have the gall to insinuate that there is an 'intelligence' deficit on the right, after dumb ol GW allegedly fooled, by their own admission, the whole liberal senate on WMD's (!) and sent two of the smartest SOB's, by their own admission, to the dugout in a 2-0 no-hitter?
Now, they offer up the boy-king, the child-god, with the Libnazi church rubbing their prayer beads, chanting 'intelligence' as if the libnazi holy spirit will descend upon them and rose petals will drop from the heavens.
Then, some Hockey mom from Alaska runs his ass through in about 12 minutes.
Wanna discuss issues now?
'Compare such trivialities with the urgent problems of unemployment, education (the lack of which is displayed sufficiently here in the posts as it seems many people have no clue of the issues'
So your european superior thinks you are uneducated and is reiterating that just in case you missed that little nugget of information the first million times she misspelled it in her helper monkey typed diatribes trying to persuade you that the cure for what ails the USA is not being more like Belgium.
'I can't find any information about those changes, none at all.'

Hope 'n Change...
...when you look at last week, and then view the liberal media, you get a very good picture of the left's beliefs and philosophies on leading and governing.
Palin's speech, inflammatory but not personal, correctly pointed out the glaring facts.
The left, grinding up their propaganda arm, the libnazi drive-by media, went straight to her personal life, in every possible way. They went off the hook on a hurricane too, something that happens EVERY year somewhere in America. To them, they are afraid of everything that threatens their image or perception of superiority, as Tonny readily illustrates in every post.
This is how the left deals with adverstiy, destroying personally, their opponents, vis a vis their libnazi inquisitors and propaganda arm, instead of the pointed, statesmanlike qualities shown by Senator McCain and Governor Palin. A glaring difference in leadership.
Ok then I visited the site you proposed, here is McCain's program on health care
sorry for the copy and paste:
Cheaper Drugs: John McCain will look to bring greater affordability and competition to our drug markets through safe re-importation of drugs and faster introduction of generic drugs.
Chronic Disease: Chronic conditions account for three-quarters of the nation's annual health care bill. By emphasizing prevention, early intervention, healthy habits, new treatment models, new public health infrastructure and the use of information technology, we can significantly reduce these costs. We should dedicate more federal research to treating and curing chronic disease.
Coordinated Care: Coordinated care - with providers collaborating to produce the best health care for the patient - offers better outcomes at lower cost. We should pay a single bill for high-quality care which will make every single provider accountable and responsive to the patients' needs.
Greater Access And Convenience: Families place a high value on quickly getting simple care. Government should promote greater access through walk-in clinics in retail outlets.
Information Technology: John McCain will promote the rapid deployment of 21st century information systems and technology to improve patient safety, enhance quality and lower costs.
Medicaid And Medicare: John McCain will reform the payment systems in Medicaid and Medicare to compensate providers for diagnosis, prevention and care coordination. Medicaid and Medicare should not pay for preventable medical errors or mismanagement. We also need to implement a zero tolerance policy towards Medicare and Medicaid fraud that is increasingly stripping away resources from the sick and the elderly.
Smoking: John McCain will promote the availability of smoking cessation programs. Most smokers would love to quit but find it hard to do so. Working with businesses and insurance companies to promote availability, we can improve lives and reduce associated chronic diseases through smoking cessation programs.
Tort Reform: John McCain will lead the fight for medical liability reform that eliminates lawsuits directed at doctors who follow clinical guidelines and adhere to proven safety protocols. Every patient should have access to legal remedies in cases of bad medical practice but that should not be an open invitation to endless, frivolous lawsuits that drive up health care costs for everyone and make the practice of medicine unaffordable for good doctors everywhere.
Transparency: John McCain believes we must make information on treatment options and doctor records more public, and require greater transparency regarding medical outcomes, quality of care, costs and prices. We must also facilitate the development of national standards for measuring and evaluating treatments and outcomes.
Reforms To Make Health Insurance Innovative, Portable And Affordable
Health Care Costs: John McCain will reform health care making it easier for individuals and families to obtain insurance. Americans are working harder and longer, yet the amount workers take home in their paychecks is not keeping pace because of rising health care costs. An important part of his plan is to use competition to improve the quality of health insurance with greater variety to match people's needs, lower prices, and promote portability. Families should be able to purchase health insurance nationwide, across state lines.
Making the Tax Subsidy Fair: By making the tax code more equitable and transparent, John McCain will give every family a refundable tax credit - cash towards insurance - of $5,000 (Individuals receive $2,500). Every family in America, regardless of the source of their insurance or how much they make will get the same help. Families will be able to stay with their current plan, or choose the insurance provider that suits them best and have the money sent directly to the insurance provider.
Making Insurance More Portable: Americans need insurance that follows them from job to job. Too many job decisions today are controlled by a fear of losing health care. Americans want insurance that is still there if they retire early and does not change if they take a few years off to raise the children. John McCain will lead the reform for portable insurance

Analyzing this you'll see nothing but intentions based on actions that are to be performed by your private health insurers. This is no reform,it is just empty words with no results to be expected .Reality is simple :our health care insurance companies only are concerned with maximum profit. That goes against the interests of the patints, obviously .Those companies will sabotage any reform that reduces their margins of pofit. The government will then have to introduce a wide array of control mechanisms tp scrutinize every patient, resulting in an incredivle red tape burocracy with virtually no result .even children understand that patienys and shareholders of inirance companies have mutual exclusive interests .Combining those is impossible,it is as simple as that .By making you believe that he will choose your benefits over corporate greed McCain is only playing with your health and wellbeing .His attitiude towards Michael Moore is enough proof that there is nothing to be expected from him.Time to modernize, time to reduce costs for medical insurance and improve efficiency .Indeed for once the USA can learn from most european countries. There is no thing wrong with that,it is yourr own interest.
..when we want clarity, Americans run straight to Michael Moore. To us he's the frikkin Walter Chronkite of american journalism. When we see that fat f--k, we all run to Subway and shower him with Sandwiches.
The left in america, has been mouthing some kind of single pay, health care myth, for thirty five years. Ted 'chappaquiddick' Kennedy has succcessfully milked this cow for his whole career, in promise after promise, without a single success to show.
Hillary, you remember her, don't you?...picked it up as a prep for running for office, convenently dropping it after getting all the political benefits, just like old Ted, and then not hearing another thing.
No wonder the dems showed her the door.
Meanwhile, for the last thirty years, republicans have been, quietly, bring the number of insured up all over america, to the present number, grown under GW Bush, from his predecessor and his nightmare wife, to just about 85%. Take the illegal aliens, STILL serviced any ANY federally funded emergency room, out of the equation, and the REAL number runs up to about 90%. (No wonder they stream over the border!) Then remove those who actually could purchase care but choose not to and it even goes higher. At the end, 6 to 7 million who really need to be covered.
The care itself? Typically, for life threatening diseases and conditions, we are 25 to 50% more effective at saving or prolonging life. After all, you do not see wealthy Americans going overseas for treatment of these diseases, like the foreigners come here to receive. Programs like Mitt Romney's total insurance program, modeled after the most successful european models in Switzerland, will cover virtually everyone, and inject competition to control costs. Like H. Ross Perot said 'go find success and emulate it.'
God, do we miss him. Apparantly, Romney was listening. Pity HE's not running.
To me, this is just another example of the way we can expect the left to lead, a Katrina every day, the-sky-is-falling politics, the culture of grievence morphing into the culture of paranoia, no character or bravery having sent the one candidate who has both to the showers, and proceeding with Mike Moore disingenuousness at every turn. These are the same folks who now say the Iraq surge is, now, 'succeeding beyond our wildest dreams!'
No, Junior, it is just proceeding as planned.
Perhaps this will be good if they ahcieve power, after all, their could have never been the Reagan Revolution without the Carter Debacle.
Perhaps this will be good if they ahcieve power, after all, their could have never been the Reagan Revolution without the Carter Debacle.
You don't gain influence by losing elections and I would much rather we didn't have a debacle just so we can blame the opposition. Wishing for disaster on the country to score a few political points is working Harry Reid's side of the street.
So you are supporting the Old Man and the Shrew? How can you honestly scream about how Obama lies, and then the first speech from your dried up old hag baby factory of a vice president candidate is full of lies and you are so in love with the liar? 80% of what she claimed she did, she did not do. 80% of what her first speech was full of lies? I just don't get you bible thumpers.
I guess it is easy to lead a party that elected GWB twice, you do not have a mind of your own. If you believe that Jesus would have done it you will do it. What a bunch of lemmings, please hurry off the cliff.
'Take obama off the teleprompter and he just drools'
It actually impresses you that your new Shrew can tell a joke? Can you really say you have ever heard her speak while Bush's speech writer is drink water?
Not one question from reporters? Sounds like she really has a mind of her own---not!
For clarification from Websters:
Maverick, a lone dissenter, as an intellectual, an artist, or a politician, who takes an independent stand apart from his or her associates.
Let's break that down.
1. Lone dissenter: Hardly, he voted for his party and Bush's failed policies 90% of the time. About the only thing he 'dissented' on was Iraq stance, so he got 10% correct?
2. As an Intellectual: Hardly, even he has acknowledged he is 'not that great' at economics, and about the only thing anyone would consider him an 'intellectual' in would be war.
3. An Artist: NO!
4. or a Politician: He gets one here as his partners for the last 8 years (Bush and Cheney) he is for sure a politician!
5. Independent: One cannot be an 'independent' if one supports his party 90% of the time.
Sorry boys, he is way past his prime. If he was the same now as in 2000 he would have a chance on making people believe he is for change.
p.s. the only reason he chose Palin is to bring in money from the republican base. Give her time she will chase away plenty, as soon as her inexperience comes to the front. Her lies will not stand. Too little too late!
'he chose Palin is to bring in money from the republican base'
Aw, come on:
republican base = fundamentalist christians.
Polite way of saying: he chose Palin is to bring in donations from fundamentalist christians and to continue the bloodletting:

...the dems sent the shrew to the showers, or do you not remember? She only got 18000000 votes, too.
Palin frightens libnazis like you to no end. Why?
We all know someone like her. It is her normalness that just unhinges the left. No nose rings, no hollywierdo backround, just that I'm-your-mom-and-I-know-whats-right attitude that just f--ks with your head.
The dem libnazi machine, paired up an old, tired, obstuctionist, plagerizing liberal thinking that the GOP would follow suit with another Cheney look-alike.
Talk about missing the mark...and you want these chuckleheads to lead??? Honestly, they might be Thomas Jeffersons for all I know, but they really were asleep on this one.
Face it...she dinged Obama, all without looking nervous or with any reference to race, etc. It was that mom-ish charm that just has them crapping their pants. This was real Conservatism, not the evolved bullsh-t conservatism of the 1990's that is such a disappointment to the real conservatives. She did not look nervous or plastic. It just enraged the libnazi drive-by media who descended onto talk TV the next day, and proceeded to attack her family. After all, we have not heard some of this for way to long a time and she woke the sleeping giant.
The conservative base has been energized...and they are pissed.
Above...
Drink the Kool Aide. Be a good Republican.

Frighten me? No way.
I WANT her to be president (not only VP, but President!). There is no better proof of jesus at the tip of cruise missile than her. The more her kind become in charge of command decisions, the more the facts prove that I am right. Jesus at the tip of a cruise missile:

If it were not for people like Palin there is a chance that I could be wrong and I would not want that! The issues become more self evident every day!
If you like Bush and Cheney, you'll love McCain and Palin.
Here is the new Republican slogan. All Republican's chant with me!:
McCain and Palin! Prove Lance Right!
'McCain and Palin! Prove Lance Right!'
And the Koran proves you wrong.
The media's attacks on Sarah Palin backfire.
by William Kristol (Abridged)
Thank you, Barack Obama. He lacked the confidence or the strength to ask Hillary Clinton, recipient of some 18 million votes, to join him on the ticket. Such a ticket, uniting and exciting the Democratic party, would have been hard to beat in this Democratic year. Having ruled out Clinton, Obama then lacked the nerve to double down on the theme of change, by selecting, say, Virginia governor Tim Kaine or Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius. A change versus experience election wouldn't have been a bad bet for Obama. Instead, he settled on an unimpressive vice presidential pick, a long-time, long-winded overrated senator from a safe state, who gave him no lift at all in the polls, and offers no prospect of doing so.
Second: Thank you, John McCain. He showed guts with his pick of Sarah Palin. He also demonstrated a shrewd strategic sense. He knew that running on experience would carry him only so far--most likely to a respectable defeat. He understood the implications of Obama's passing over Hillary--not that Clinton voters would vote for McCain-Palin (though if even a few do so, it could make a difference), but that his pick of Palin when compared with Obama's shying away from
Hillary would show McCain as a bolder and more confident leader. And he had the sense that Palin's anti-establishment conservatism, pro-family feminism, and tough-minded reformism would add something important to his campaign.
Third: A special thank you to our friends in the liberal media establishment. Who knew they would come through so spectacularly? The ludicrous media feeding frenzy about the Palin family hyped interest in her speech, enabling her to win a huge audience for her smashing success Wednesday night at the convention. Indeed, it even renewed interest in McCain, who seems to have gotten still more viewers for his less smashing--but well-received--presentation the following evening.
The astounding (even to me, after all these years!) smugness and mean-spiritedness of so many in the media engendered not just interest in but sympathy for Palin. It allowed Palin to speak not just to conservatives but to the many Americans who are repulsed by the media's prurient interest in and adolescent snickering about her family. It allowed the McCain-Palin ticket to become the populist standard-bearer against an Obama-Media ticket that has disdain for Middle America.
By the end of the week, after Palin's tour de force in St. Paul, the liberal media were so befuddled that they were reduced to complaining that conservatives aren't being narrow-minded enough. Thus, Hanna Rosin--who has covered religion and politics for the Washington Post, and has also written for the New Yorker, the New Republic, and the New York Times--lamented in a piece for Slate: 'So cavalier are conservatives about Sarah Palin's wreck of a home life that they make the rest of us look stuffy and slow-witted by comparison.' I suppose it was ungenerous of conservatives, in our broad-mindedness and tolerance of human frailty, to have let Ms. Rosin down, just when she was counting on us to bring out the tar and feathers. But she gives us too much credit when she suggests we make the liberal media look stuffy and slow-witted. They do that all by themselves.
'And the Koran proves you wrong.'
I do not support violent interpretations of the koran, just as I do not support violent interpretations of the bible. I do not support religion or god as motivation for war, however Palin does:

Elect McCain and Palin, we are ready to suck Alaska's hydrocarbons out for our SUV's. NOW!!!
Did the republicans try to censor the democrats? No....
One of Barack Obama's elite fundraisers from the anti-American group Code Pink attempted to storm the stage last night during Republican vice presidential nominee Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's acceptance speech at the GOP convention in St. Paul.
Jodie Evans, one of a group of about 500 top financiers who have bundled tens of thousands of dollars for the Obama campaign was seized by the Secret Service after she had made her way to side of the stage and and started to yell at Palin.
10:45 p.m. A pair of Code Pink activists just got to the very edge of the stage and were a moment away from apparently running on stage, right by the Kentucky slot on the floor next to a host of McCain's most senior staffers.
Secret Service men grabbed them at last minute and literally dragged them out.
--Paul Kane
voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/03/inside_the_convention_ha ll.html
Evans has bundled between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama as well as contributing the maximum $2300 to Obama's presidential primary campaign. She co-hosted Obama's breakout Hollywood fundraiser at the start of his campaign in February 2007.
As a bundler, Evans has been given perks that include regular briefings by top campaign staffers on policy and private meetings with Obama and his vice presidential candidate Joe Bid
'So asking people to pray for our soldiers and the successful completion of their mission is the same a making excuses or people who fly aircraft full of people into buildings full of people?'
I imagine so. However, I suspect it is you that pray for the U.S. soldiers just as your opponents pray for successful completion of their soldier's task.
I, on the other hand, do not pray nor do I make excuses. I simply acknowledge the facts as Palin makes them:

Pakistan: Four Muslims kill elderly Christian woman 'because they believed Pakistan’s legal system would not prosecute them for murdering Christians'
So far, unfortunately, they appear to be right. 'Pakistan: Elderly Christian killed in axe murder,' from Compass Direct News, September 4:
ISTANBUL, September 4 (Compass Direct News) – Four Pakistani Muslims killed an elderly woman with an axe over a dispute with her husband, who has been unable to prosecute them due to his low social status as a Christian.
Case workers said the alleged culprits targeted the couple for theft and later murder because they believed Pakistan’s legal system would not prosecute them for murdering Christians. The suspects’ connections to mafia and national politicians further emboldened them, they said.
“The Muslims assume the Christians are sheep and don’t have any weight,” said Sohail Johnson, case worker and chief coordinator of Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan (SLMP), a Non-Governmental Organization that supports Christian prisoners throughout the Punjab province. “The culprits thought, ‘[The Christians] have no voice. Nothing will happen if we do something,’” he said.

Nigeria: 'Muslim extremists' burn church, saying it was too close to mosque
There sure seems to be a lot of extremists in a lot of places for such a Tiny Minority. 'Nigeria - Muslim extremists burn church building,' from Compass Direct News, September 2:
ILORIN, Nigeria, September 2 (Compass Direct News) – Muslim extremists on Sunday (Aug. 31) set ablaze a church building in the Baboko area of this city in central Nigeria’s Kwara state.
The Rev. Samuel Ogowole told Compass that the extremists barred members of his Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) from getting to the building on Sunday, and the Town Planning Development Authority had sealed off the premises following pressure from area Muslims. The congregation had gone to a site on the outskirts of the city for worship when the Muslim extremists destroyed the church building, a 20 million naira (US$170,575) structure built four years ago.
Rev. Ogowole told Compass that area Muslims had complained that the church building is located near a mosque. Compass found that the church building was 500 meters from the Baboko mosque.
Muslim leaders had filed a complaint with an interfaith panel called the Inter-Religious Committee, established by the Kwara state government to mediate Muslim-Christian conflicts. Rev. Ogowole said the body initially ruled against the Islamists’ claim, but under Muslim pressure later issued a second resolution ordering the church to relocate.
“The Inter-Religious committee after investigating the issue explained that it is not true that our church is close to the mosque, and as such there is no justification of the claims of the Muslims,” he said. “But the Muslims still have not allowed us to worship here in peace.”
To appease the Muslim community, Rev. Ogowole said, the Kwara state government offered church leaders 3 million naira (US$25,580) and ordered the congregation to relocate. Church leaders rejected the order, saying they had spent nearly seven times that much to construct the church building.

Grave of woman buried alive for suspected 'honor crimes'
A Palestinian woman died after her father buried her alive claiming he wanted to preserve the 'family honor.' The father, in his seventies, turned himself in and admitted to killing his 24-year-old divorced daughter.
After investigating the crime scene, the police discovered that the woman’s father had tied her arms and legs and muzzled her before burying her alive. According to press reports on Monday, the coroner was to examine the body to determine whether the woman was also beaten before her death.

5 buried alive 'tradition' - Pakistani pol
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A Pakistani lawmaker defended a decision by northwestern tribesmen to bury five women alive because they wanted to choose their own husbands, telling stunned members of Parliament to spare him their outrage.
'These are centuries-old traditions, and I will continue to defend them,' Israr Ullah Zehri, who represents Baluchistan province, told The Associated Press Saturday.
'Only those who indulge in immoral acts should be afraid.'
The women, three of whom were teenagers, were first shot and then thrown into a ditch.
They were still breathing as mud was shoveled over their bodies, according to media reports, which said their only 'crime' was that they wished to marry men of their own choosing.
Zehri told a packed and stunned Parliament on Friday that Baluch tribal traditions helped stop obscenity and then asked fellow lawmakers to stop making such a fuss about it.
Several lawmakers stood up in protest, describing the so-called honor killings as 'barbaric.'
Human rights groups accused local authorities of trying to hush up the executions, which according to local media reports and activists took place a month ago in Baba Kot, a remote village in Jafferabad district.

Girl Forced to Marry at Nine Murdered After She Sought Annulment
Saturday, September 06, 2008
A 17-year-old Pakistani girl forced to marry a 45-year-old when she was only nine was reportedly killed by her parents, according to the Weekend Australian.
The murder has intensified despair among human rights workers in Pakistan over a recent spate of 'honor killings,' in which two women and three teenage school girls were buried alive in Baluchistan Province because they wanted to marry the men of their choice.
Saira Nusrat Bibi was successfully fighting a legal battle to have her marriage annulled. As she left court in the Punjabi city of Sahiwal, she was surrounded by a group of men reportedly sent by her parents, and shot in front of police, The Australian reported.

Gee lance, every day some crime is committed in the name Of Allah....
Must be palins fault.
'For lance, just from the past couple of days'
The actions you reference are horrible. I do not support that behavior whether done by anyone including christians, muslims, atheists or anyone.
Thank you for prompting me once again to firmly state that I do not support violence of any kind. Apparently, it can not be said enough.
It is a good thing that one can be christian, muslim, atheist or anything and not commit such acts of violence, if you so desire.
Get them oil derricks ready boys, we're going in.
Isn't it about time for Larry Flint to make an offer for some pics?
Catch a clue, right wing talking points by right wing writers are not going to swing anyone to your point of view. Good try, but you and Mr. Kristol are nut-jobs.
..30% of Rush Limbaugh's listeners define themselves as liberal....now maybe they are not really liberal but, if true, would take your theory on right wing writers and send it to the trash heap.
Where do you get your facts? Out of your demented mind? Sometimes it is OK for you to shut the hell up, your blathering is so sad. Your perspective is completely laughable and your intelligence is suspect.
And you are wrong again, no matter how many purported liberals listen to Rush, Kristol being a right wing nut job is a correct assumption and that fact makes any opinion of his suspect. That said the original point (I think) was that right wing opinions are not going to convince anyone to switch to McSame.
McCain will have a tough road ahead going against both Democrats and Republicans.
DEEDS PLEASE- NOT VERBAL CRAPRESPONSE: Tell the truth, White people don't want to vote for for DEMOCRATICbecause the he is a black men.Hey, I live in Texas, where that B.S er George Bush Jr. is from and I know B.S. when I see it.I have looked at shows where people find items left over from the civil war. All, I am saying is that racism, dies hard and the only reason we get better is because some of those old haters, die.White people are racist. period. They feel like we, black people are not American citizens because our ancestors come from Africa and they don't want to see a Black President and they are hiding behind bull shit reasons. The Indians were the real Americans. We have been in this country as long at the people from England and worked our asses off and deserve to be in leadership positions.White people are scared they are going to have to get on the back of the bus if the democrats win. White people love power and want to control the world because they feel entitled to. Well, get a clue,if McCain was for change he should have done it by now.and wake up poor white folk. If you make less that $250,000, McCain is not talking about you. If you vote for him because his VP candidate has a vagina, you are going to ge the same old in a new box.But some of you stupid white folk would prefer that rather than a black man. Wake up!
SP4....Sep 7th, 2008 - 00:27:41
Where do you get your facts?
SP4 - Wall Street Journal...Forbes...where do you get yours?
Out of your demented mind?
sp4 - If I want juvenile sarcasm, I have my own kids for that.
Sometimes it is OK for you to shut the hell up,
sp4 - not really the point on a posting site, or did that, too, not occur to you?
your blathering is so sad.
sp4 - that, of course, still does not make me wrong, professor.
Your perspective is completely laughable and your intelligence is suspect.
And you are wrong again,
sp4 - but you lack the data to make any kind of case, right?
no matter how many purported liberals listen to Rush,
Kristol being a right wing nut job is a correct assumption
sp4 - assumption is the mother of all f--kups...why does that premise make HIM wrong. By what calculus do you arrive at such a conclusion?
and that fact makes any opinion of his suspect.
sp4 - everyone's opinion is suspect to people with real intellect, didn't you know that? Drawing wide conclusions from limited information is a sign of intellectual laziness. I have been guilty of that, occasionally, but not now.
That said the original point (I think) was that right wing opinions are not going to convince anyone to switch to McSame.
sp4 - someone's opinions do, why not his? How do you arrive at this conclusion, professor? Data collection? Statistical analysis? I offered more fact than you started out with, regardless of my conclusions!
The problem with you Professor is you, somehow, assume you are right, without any facts to support such a conclusion. You have, with no data, convinced yourself that you are simply right, like the holy spirit descended upon you.
I offer one, undeniable point, and you cave, retreating into theime-honored libnazi retort:
1) stupid
2)crazy
3)radical
..argument all libnazis retreat into. Real intellect is hard, prefessor. Improve your methods and then
come back.
Sometimes one wonders about the sanity of some posters:what is the purpose of posting crimes committed in the name of islam by some retards in Somalia or Pakistan. This has absolutely no incidence on your elections .These cimes are committed during the presidency of the GOP and nothing, absolutely nothing Bush,McCain or Obama or even Hillary Clinton does will impact on that .Nor will future policies of any candidate either in the USA or somewhere in Europe .Religion can be inspiing as long as it is not organized and coerced. As far as I know all the prophets are crooks and liars neither suffering from hallucinations and paranoia or hunger for money and power .Unfortunately your next president will change little to that .Especially if Palin is involved as she stands for creationism, yet another silly obsolete figment of the bronze age, only able to sustain itself ibn the brains of those that lack education (SP4 jumps to mind, given his long list of errors and mistakes ).What is much more important and what must be achieved is universal health care.We have it,so can you .better education too is needed. How can anybody possibly believe the world is 6500 years old .Have you no lessons in geography, physics, astro physics, biology, chemistry ,history and others .Every science leads to the same conclusion;evolution .
It is mindboggling that a nation which used to be great is sinking so deep in this morass of spin and shame .Wht happened to the country that was proud on it's human right record .Torture, kidnapping, disdain for the rest of the world and total paranoia grips part of your population .Is it normal that teachers have to attend class wearing arms ?Is it normal that you have to install metal detectors in schools ?based on your second amendment, written in times when there were no AK47 or UZI.The world has changed and better adapt to it.Dispose of bronze age religions that force their laws down your throats, make you all obey their rules based on figments .Be it muslim or evangelism:they are mostly insane and plain wrong.Chuch and politics must be separated for the sake of democracy .
And of course there is health care .Never ever have I heard any explanation why private insurance based on the greed of corporate tycoons is better performing than universal health care .just check the post of SP4 on that and you will see for yourselves how pitiful the arguments are .About the same low quality as the denial of global warming or the invasion of Iraq. That is what I meant with education ..Al Gore had it right just as Michael Moore is right, hence these are the public ennemies of the GOP and smear upon smear is poured upon them.their argumens are never opposed, they cant be,so go for the mudslinging.and again this is happening, with Obama too.Just read the posts and see whatr kind of arguments are used.Time to discuss programs perhaps....
Wasn't this joker shot down and beaten like a little bitch?
He was rammed with a poker and became the camp's whistle snitch!
Than he got caught cheating on his now ex-wife
He left her and decided to make US politics his life
How special this US election has become
A white handicap, a black and a woman are diversity to some
What will become of the elections themselves some may wonder
Will their be election fraud again some ponder
Especially for you all a movie from Michael Moore freely available on the web:
www.theslackeruprising.com
have fun...
Sorry only available as from sept 23th ...you'll just have to wait a bit.Meanwhile satisfy yourselves with the comments from our neocon friends here that haven't seen it yet.
It's the same old Libnazi Chestnut:
Stupid
Crazy
Radical
The Bolshivik argument that anyone disagreeing with them MUST be crazy. Now, it's the church of the divine libnazi, and their Inquisitors, the drive-by, liberal media doing the persecution.
They have ignored the glaring interfaces with the liberal - corporate tychoons of NBC, CBS, and ABC (ATT, Enron, AMOCO, Boeing, GM, Ford, Chrysler, Lockmart...wanna larger list, just ask) but yet, have the gall to impune the right for any of their associations to any coproate enemy.
Yes, Tonny, go see what boards Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, etc., is, or has been on:
Apple - fighting an Options backdating scam using Al Gore as the front man
Wal-Mart - remember them Tonny? Hillary Clinton certainly does, although the left wing libnazi press has gagged this for the last 7 years, very effectively. After all, ever wonder WHY Nafta and MFN for China passed so easily???
Boeing - Single source military leasing, to get around the bid process, started in the 1990's, greenlighted by the Clintons, along with MFN status to China, to greenlight outsourcing of jobs in Washington state. Mccain put a wooden stake through this one saving an estimated 15 to 40 Billion, depending on just how much we got fleeced.
AMOCO - Sandy Berg(l)ar and his oil-for-money schemes involving Russian, Georgian, etc. campaign funds, sold White House influence via his old law firm overseas. After all, why do you think he REALLY stole all those 9/11 docs?
AT&T - limiting Internet access in cities where they install hardwire with backroom deals, greenlighted by Senator Wyden (D..what else...) of Oregon, until judge Panner stuck it back up their asses.
Lockmart - Clinton-flubb'ed F22 and the B2, so expensive that even Rumsfeld was on record as wanting to cancel most of them, but were kept alive vis a vis the Boeing connection. DD21, Seawolf...god, the list was endless. Bush took a wooden stake and mallet to as much as he could, but we got stuck with the rest.
Never mind White water, collecting FBI records on political enemies, Pardon of puerto rican terrorists, letting Osama Bin Laden walk from Somali custody, pardons of Marc Rich for money and the endless file losses, Vince Foster, Clinton Foundation-for-influence scam, Mr. Hsu Inc., Catholic Church Properties pyramid scheme...god Tonny, the list makes Bush look like St. Francis of Assisi...
All ignored, covered up and gagged by the same press that has impuned Bush for 7.5 years, crucified Alberto 'pinata' Gonzales for capping crooked Congeressmen, and seems to think Karl Rove has two horns and a tail.
Tonny, no one's buying the 'crazy' argument anymore than the 'intelligent argument' especially anything from that fat f--k Moore, that talking head Gore, or the libnazi intelliguista that was fooled by what they have described as a 'dumb' president who managed to fool 400 congressmen about WMD's in Iraq, if you can possibly believe their stinted logic. Supposedly, we are now to laud Biden for being fooled by this dumb president...I guess.
Grok this :
What if McSame is a Saturday night special, a throwaway gun?
What if the repugnicans DON'T WANT to win this election?
What if they just aren't interested in picking up their own - considerable - messes? Or just don't know how? Just look at them, listen to them. These guys aren't rocket scientists, after all.
That doesn't mean the old geezer can't win, though. God knows there are a lot of things that can go wrong, like that 'Florida Hat Trick' they pulled the last time...

And what's with this brain dead loser using my name to post his stupid comments, anyway? That's so lowbrow he HAS to be a repugnican dipstick.

It's funny to hear that from him. He was a maverick, but three years ago, he began to toe the party line to run for president. He didn't always vote with Bush 95% of the time, that started when he wanted to move up.
It's strange how fast he can change his tune. The other day, experience was everything and Rove was on TV saying that Obama would make a 'political' VP selection with no experience. Now it's McCain who chose a woman known only for mooseburgers and her child's pregnancy.
Speaking of which, I recommend this story about Palin to anyone who wants to get to know her beyond the media hype. I can't link to it, so just Google 'palin email crosscut' and find it yourself. It's the top link.
That said, I wish she was someone already known. She's the least experienced, least well-known Republican Senator or Governor. There are ten others, nine of which were eligible to run with McCain. And she's barely outside the bottom 10% of the Republican party in experience. McCain could have picked a more experienced woman if he wanted to put America's interests ahead of those of his campaign.
