Anti-Obama author detained in Kenya, faces deportation

Oct 7, 2008, 14:54 GMT

Nairobi - The American author of a controversial book lambasting US presidential hopeful Barack Obama was Tuesday detained by Kenyan immigration authorities as he prepared to launch his book in the East African nation.

Jerome Corsi was picked up by immigration authorities at a Nairobi hotel just before he was due to present 'The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality' to the public.

Immigration authorities refused to comment on the exact reason for Corsi's detention and what the next step would be.

However, the Daily Nation, quoting a source in the immigration department, said that Corsi and his spokesman had been driven to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and would be put on a plane out of the country.

Corsi had said he would 'expose details of deep secret ties between...Obama and a section of Kenya Government leaders...and a subsequent plot to be executed in Kenya should Senator Obama win the American presidency' at the press event.

Corsi had also planned to meet the senator's half-brother, George Hussein Obama, who lives in Nairobi's Huruma slum, to give him a cheque for 1,000 dollars.

George Obama's poverty has provided right-wing commentators with ammunition, saying that it undermines Obama's supposed commitment to family values.

Corsi's 2004 book 'Unfit for Command' attacking Democratic nominee John Kerry is credited with helping President George W Bush to election victory.

Observers say that the latest book, which also accuses Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga of supporting radical Muslims, aims to do the same job on Obama, whose father was Kenyan and from the same tribe as Odinga.

Kenya has adopted Obama as Kenyan even though he has only visited the country a handful of times.

He was given a rapturous welcome during his last visit to the village where his grandmother still lives and a beer has even been named after him.

Well, since the economy is in the tank ....

... and the wars still have no end in sight

(Afghanistan getting worse ... Iraq leveling out a bit - but certainly not good yet, since you still can't get a safe ride to the airport ... Al Qaeda still growing in power around the world ... Pakistan becoming more and more a problem ... Iran getting more closer to real nukes, etc etc etc ... many, many international problems) ...

And with the news that OVER 750,000 jobs have been lost in the US this year alone ... and it's only October ... still lots of time to lose more.

You republican guys want to talk about these things instead? Fears and rumors of fears?

I'm trying to say ... we have REAL problems that we should be talking about.

But no ... the republican fools above would rather talk about rumors written by a guy with a right wing agenda ( oh and you like talking about lipstick too).

Why? ... Because it's feeds the fears in their little minds.

Hey guys ... switch to water for a day ... get back to real issues ... the republican kool-aid has you forgetting about the very real problems in front of your face.

'the only thing sp4 knows is John McCain predicted Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crises. '

You forgot to mention that Obama and the democrats helped bring it about. Obama took more money from Freddie and fannie than any other senator in such a short period of time. The only reason Chris Dodd was able to wring out more is because he was in the senate over 10 years. Here:

All Recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008

Name, Office, State, Party, Grand Total, Total from PACs, Total from Individuals
Dodd, Christopher J S CT D $165,400 $48,500 $116,900
Obama, Barack S IL D $126,349 $6,000 $120,349

Obama was the number 1 recipient of money from the failed countrywide mortgage lender.

This entire bailout/Crisis was caused by Freddie and fanny deliberately buying loans that were marginal from banks that deliberately loaned to people who were not qualified to borrow. Jim Johnson and Franklin Raines were CEOs of Freddie and Fannie and both walked away from the mess they made with tens of millions in undeserved bonuses and BOTH are not only contributers to Obama but both are key political and economic advisers to him and his campaign. Jim Johnson oversaw the Obama vice presidential search committee.

Penny Pritzker is Obamas campaign finance chairman, she made millions in the sub-prime crisis. Add Jamie Gorelick who is one of the Fannie executives who benefited from inflated bonuses based on Enron-style accounting and another Obama adviser and you pretty much have most of the major people involved in buying off politicians in order to limit Fannie/Freddies accountability giving money and advice to Obama.

Barack Obama is continuing a long history of helping other people steal from the tax payer in exchange for financial contributions and power. He did it with tony Rezko in Chicago who stole millions from the taxpayers took care of him well.. Now he is doing it with the CEOs of these failed banks who have bought and paid for him with OUR money in order to stop the regulatory bodies from stopping them from stealing.

'It was deregulation that John McCain supported'

That is an outright, provable lie. McCain Proposed regulation for freddie and Fannie. Here:

he following statement was made by John McCain on the floor of the Senate on May 25, 2005.

Mr. McCAIN. Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.

The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.

For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

None of this negates the fact that Obama, promptly, upon entrance to the senate, immediately went to the public housing trough and fed next to Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

Simply put, It is provable that John McCain wanted Freddie and Fannie regulated.

'Phil Gramm DID author banking and mortgage deregulation in 1999 .'

Which wasn't what caused this melt down, it was the fact that Freddie and Fannie were deliberately buying up bad mortgages that banks were loaning to transfer private risk to the public sector.

McCain Cosponsored Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005; Reform of Fannie and Freddie

In 2003, Senator John McCain co-sponsored the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005. The reform, due to Democratic resistance, never became law. Here was a statement John McCain made in support of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005:

Statement by John McCain Sen. John McCain [R-AZ]: Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae's regulator reported that the company's quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were 'illusions deliberately and systematically created' by the company's senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.

Republicans also tried to reegulate Freddie and Fannie in 2003:

New Agency Proposed to Oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae

By STEPHEN LABATON

September 11, 2003

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt — is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates

”The regulator has not only been outmanned, it has been outlobbied,” said Representative Richard H. Baker, the Louisiana Republican who has proposed legislation similar to the administration proposal and who leads a subcommittee that oversees the companies. ”Being underfunded does not explain how a glowing report of Freddie’s operations was released only hours before the managerial upheaval that followed. This is not world-class regulatory work.”

Significant details must still be worked out before Congress can approve a bill. Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.[...]

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said.

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

So McCain, who now poses as the scourge of Wall Street, was praising financial deregulation like 10 seconds ago — and promising that if we marketize health care, it will perform as well as the financial industry

'The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. ... And I won't be buried under their damn flag.'

This is an organization that Todd Palin joined as a full member ...

And you really think that's more acceptable then Rev. Wright eh?

Or are you gonna be a hypocrite about this too?

No. Todd Palin is not a candidate for anything, and this organization does not advocate the downfall of America, just the State of Alaska seceeding from it, after 60(?) years of questionable results from their membership.

SP4 is defending Todd Palin ... the GOP's VP Candidates husband ... for belonging to a party that wants Alaska to secede from the US.

And a party who's leader and founder, proclaims vile hatred for America ... and wants to break the US apart.

OK SP4 ... never ever mention Rev. Wright, or Bill Ayers again.

If you do, You'll be an even bigger hypocrite than you already are.

....And please, voters, do not forget the wonderful work Mr. Obama did for those poor folk in Chicago, Illinois (and now, we find out other big populated cities) to make sure that many families (worthy of home sized borrowing or not) got huge loans for homes thay could NEVER pay for....We shall forever here after know this super-scam as A C O R N.
(Remember, voters, if you don't elect McCain, and choose Obama, you are hereafter evermore part of the spending problem and NOT the solution!)

Vote with your head, not over it!
