McCain vows tax cuts to jump-start economy (Roundup)

Washington - Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Tuesday pledged to cut taxes and reform rules to help investors saving for retirement in a bid to jump-start an economy hard hit by the crisis in financial markets.
'We cannot spend the next four years as we have spent much of the last eight - waiting for our luck to change,' the Arizona senator said in an attempt to distance himself from unpopular fellow Republican George W Bush.
'The hour is late and our troubles are getting worse. We have to act immediately. We have to change direction now. We have to fight.'
The faltering US economy has become the key issue ahead of November 4 presidential elections amid a roller coaster course on Wall Street, a freeze of credit markets, the failure of several large financial firms and a 700-billion-dollar government bail-out plan designed to contain the mess.
Speaking to voters in the battleground state of Pennsylvania hours after the government said it would spend 250 billion dollars to take stock in banks, McCain vowed not to allow the government to become a permanent stakeholder in private enterprise.
'We're going to get government out of the business of bail-outs and equity stakes, and back in the business of responsible regulation,' he said.
McCain's actions to restore investor confidence and get the economy moving would include a guarantee on all savings accounts regardless of size for six months and modifications to retirement accounts to allow seniors to keep their money invested until the markets recuperate.
He also pledged to cut taxes on businesses in a bid to encourage hiring, halve capital gains taxes on stocks and remove taxes from government unemployment benefits. He also reiterated his pledge to renegotiate home mortgages at the heart of the crisis.
The speech came a day after Democratic candidate Barack Obama unveiled his own updated economic plan calling for new measures to spur job growth and help homeowners threatened by foreclosure stay in their homes. Opinion polls released this week show Obama gaining ground with more voters trusting him to deal with the economic crisis.
The Obama campaign accused McCain's plan of not doing enough to help middle class Americans. 'His trickle-down ideological recipes won't strengthen our economy and grow our middle class, but Barack Obama's pro-jobs, pro-family economic policies will,' said Bill Burton, Obama's spokesman.
The Illinois senator on Monday called for a tax credit for businesses that create new jobs and other tax measures aimed at small businesses and the middle class. He also said he would seek a 90-day moratorium on home foreclosures, which have hit record highs in the past year and severely damaged the balance sheets of banks, spurring the current financial crisis.
His plan also would allow investors to take money from retirement accounts without early withdrawal penalties and lend federal money to state and local governments hit by the credit crisis.
McCain called Obama's proposal to change restrictions on withdrawals from retirement accounts 'an invitation to capital flight, and therefore to continued instability in the market, at a moment when exactly the opposite is needed.'

Well after so much moaning at them for being 3 days old with their news, somebody at M&C must have woken up and read the comments, got off their arse, looked a a paper or TV and copied it. Keep it up M&C you`re doing fine.
Seeing at McCain on view, I cannot believe my eyes. An incredibly haggard old man - he looks in his 90`s, something the cat has brought in.
That stinking bitch he has chosen as (don`t laugh) his VP has just about nailed the old bastard in his political coffin. Gee, with scum like that at your side - WHO NEEDS ENEMIES ?
He would have done better choosing some Flossie from a Nevada knocking shop. At least these girls are GOOD at their job.
Obama will piss home to the White House with only these two pieces of shit to beat I`m very sad and somewhat revolted to say, but that is FACT.
And it is all due to the lunatic rantings, complete lack of morals, negative experience and irresponsible behaviour of some ugly Neolithic, pampered cow from the backwoods of Stone Age Alaska.
Well done Johnny - you`ve crapped your pants mate ! Go tell Momma.
Tell you what Johnbo, pick up your crutches and go home, open the domino box and play yourself silly - God with your decrepit antique shape - you`ll even be lucky to beat yourself !
As always, you are so historically correct, the mark of a real dinosaur of knowledge and respected Medicine Man.
But, my esteemed and undisputed fountain of all knowledge, THAT is all in the past. We are NOW dealing with the present and above all - the future.
Put the whisky bottle down, just for a second. It is NOT ME that is full of crap `O GREAT ONE, but the incompetent idiots YOU have chosen for president. It is every one of THEM that spout shit as soon as they open their mouths. It simply pours out like an unstoppable stream of Diarrhea.
So, my respected philosopher of history, just for once - concentrate on WHAT THEY SAY AND WHAT THEY DO NOW ! NOT WHAT THEY SAID AND WHAT THEY DID THEN !
Open that coffin lid nice and easy and come out into the daylight with the rest of us. Nobody will hammer a stake through your heart - that is all a myth.
Bye for now `O GREAT ONE - I`ll sit back and await all those insults and adjectives that your anti-fan club will be coming in with any minute now.
Makes super reading.
Nice one TEX.
We have a stick of liquorice up here in Montana that says as much in a minute than Obama says in a whole year.
It`s name is Blackie, any offers for a swap ?
Hey SP4,McCain also said this:
Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.
So McCain, who now poses as the scourge of Wall Street, was praising financial deregulation like 10 seconds ago — and promising that if we marketize health care, it will perform as well as the financial industry
You say: 'Open that coffin lid nice and easy and come out into the daylight with the rest of us. Nobody will hammer a stake through your heart - that is all a myth. '
Don't be too sure of that. I'm waiting. I'm ready. But in the mean time I will play 'whack-a-mole' on his stupid head every time he pops his head out of Bush's arse.
-SP's stalker.
Now, now Tonny, don`t be naughty and try to be a tomboy by playing with the big boys. We don`t need any Belgium cheerleaders, thank you very much.
Go back to your little girls club and do what little girls do in Belgium. Nothing I suppose, since nobody in Belgium ever does anything.
Anyway - where the hell is Belgium ?
HUH ! Somebody just whispered in my ear that it is a huge European cemetery where tens of thousands of American young boys are buried for trying to save this piddling bit of Europe from German oppression.
Well - we learn new facts every day - eh ?
Do us all a favor Fanny - take an interest in your own country and leave America alone - we can manage very well without little girls from Belgium making juvenile comments.
Great stuff, shows real dedication and blood-lust.
Keep it up, I`m reading.
How do you know that a battle hardened veteran like ESS PEE does`nt wear full body armor and helmet when he pops out of Bush`s arsehole ?
Ya not dealing with a greenhorn here and with a nut as thick as his, you`ll never hurt him by a head smack. He`s immune in that part of his anatomy.
Grandpa McCain has recently vowed (amongst many other vows) during one of his verbal hallucinations, that he will pour dollars into Israel like the old greenback is going out of fashion if Iran threatens them, when he becomes President.
Dunno where he`s gonna get all these dollars from - borrow them I suppose and add to the other tens of trillions we are in debt.
This colossal financial legacy of debt will then be passed on to our next unfortunate 10+ generations as a continuous ball and shackle on their very lives and prosperity.
Perhaps the old guy will actually make his beloved Israel the 51st state of America. Where will he put the star on Old Glory ? Sorry, there`s only one place left - UP HIS ARSE.
You can all easily compare the tax benefits in both plans relating to your income and see what fits you best of all,the charts are simple ,it will take you less than a minute:

'How do you know that a battle hardened veteran like ESS PEE ...'
Battle hardened?????? The only battle EssPee has ever engaged in is his own personal war on drugs. Which he lost by the way. He couldn't beat his demons, so he joined them. Or should I say he 'jointed' them?
'Ya not dealing with a greenhorn here and with a nut as thick as his,...'
Greenhorn? Debateable. Idiot? Definitely. Yes, he does have a pretty thick head. It is so solid that there isn't any room in there for a brain even one as small sa his pea sized vegetable. But you are right, I can't do any real damage by hitting him there. That's why I have a wooden stake with EssPee's name on it. Even an idiot like him has to have a blood pump of some sort. It is obvious that he doesn't have a heart, or intelligence.
At a rally at Virginia Beach, Palin and McCain were both there. Here is a quote from the loal paper: 'The McCain campaign estimated the crowd at 25,000 people, but local police and fire marshal put it closer to 12,000. The convention center holds 20,000 people.'
So, 12,000 becomes 25,000, exceeding the capacity of the building, breaking the fire odinances. As if a minor(or major) lawbreaking ever deterred the GOP. If you are worried about inflation, be very afraid. If you're worried about your job and home, be very frightened. The debt will skyrocket faster than Shuttle. These people just plain can't count.
You're welcome. I'm glad that somebody can get a yuk these days. As for EssPee, I, for one, would be glad to never see it again. I can understand people having differing positions on things. This is fair. What gets my gourd is the outright propaganda that spews from EssPee. It is a programmed person, not a thinker. And he hammers people with it, rather than having an intelligent exchange of ideas. So, EssPee will continue to get flamed until he becomes human. A mind is like a parachute, it only works when open. EssPee needs a mind.
Cindy McCain put her foot in her mouth in an interview for a mag when she said because of his training, McCain didn't have any problems mentally at all after his imprisonment. I don't quite think the campaign would have wanted her to open her mouth on that one. It looks like they don't have any feelings one way or another with the thousands of military who do come back with major mental problems, or that if the McCains admitted the old boy did have some 'treatment' to help him, it would maybe reflect on his ability to lead the country. At any rate, I'm sure they were hoping no one took much notice of her mouth.
The contrast between, on the one hand, the huge amount of material about Obama’s radical associations that has been published in on-line journals and in a few brave newspapers, and on the other the refusal by big media to address it and to vilify those who do, becomes more astounding by the day. The Obamaniacs are spinning the relationship between Obama and William Ayers, former of Weather Undergound Terrorism Inc, as of no consequence because this was supposedly a chance acquaintance and because the educational project they worked on, the Annenberg Challenge, was a worthy one.
Stanley Kurtz now nails that canard by showing how, through the Annenberg Challenge, Obama and Ayers channelled funds to extremist anti-American Afrocentric ‘educational’ programmes which were a carbon-copy of the world view of Pastor Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s black racist mentor who, under pressure, Obama was forced to repudiate. These programmes promoted, amongst other radical ideas, the ‘rites of passage’ philosophy which attempted to create a ‘virtually separate and intensely anti-American black social world’ in order to ‘counter the potentially detrimental effects of a Eurocentrically oriented society.’ One such teacher taught that
‘The submission to Western civilization and its most outstanding offspring, American civilization, is, in reality, surrender to white supremacy.’
Kurtz concludes:
However he may seek to deny it, all evidence points to the fact that, from his position as board chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, Barack Obama knowingly and persistently funded an educational project that shared the extremist and anti-American philosophy of Jeremiah Wright.
No surprise there, since back in June Kurtz pointed to evidence that Obama shared the black racism of the Trinity United Church of Christ. In this article Obama was reported as rejecting ‘integrationist assimilation’ and wanting to channel black rage more effectively into political organisation. Kurtz dug out a chapter in a 1990 book called After Alinsky: Community Organizing in Illinois in which Obama sketched out how radical black churches could be harnessed to help radicalise the black population. As Kurtz wrote:
So it would appear that Obama’s own writings solve the mystery of why he stayed at Trinity for 20 years. Obama’s long-held and decidedly audacious hope has been to spread Wright’s radical spirit by linking it to a viable, left-leaning political program, with Obama himself at the center. The revolutionizing power of a politically awakened black church is not some side issue, or merely a personal matter, but has been the signature theme of Obama’s grand political strategy.
Those few brave souls who do try to enlighten the public about all this come up against the kind of intimidation by Camp Obama charted here by Michael Barone:
Stanley Kurtz appeared on Milt Rosenberg's WGN radio program in Chicago. Mr. Kurtz had been researching Mr. Obama's relationship with unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers in Chicago Annenberg Challenge papers in the Richard J. Daley Library in Chicago - papers that were closed off to him for some days, apparently at the behest of Obama supporters. Obama fans jammed WGN's phone lines and sent in hundreds of protest e-mails. The message was clear to anyone who would follow Mr. Rosenberg's example. We will make trouble for you if you let anyone make the case against The One.
Other Obama supporters have threatened critics with criminal prosecution. In September, St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce warned citizens that they would bring criminal libel prosecutions against anyone who made statements against Mr. Obama that were ‘false.’ I had been under the impression that the Alien and Sedition Acts had gone out of existence in 1801-'02. Not so, apparently, in metropolitan St. Louis. Similarly, the Obama campaign called for a criminal investigation of the American Issues Project when it ran ads highlighting Mr. Obama's ties to Mr. Ayers.
No such threats, of course, will be made against this new book whose publication is tactfully timed for next year so as not to frighten the horses -- Race Course Against White Supremacy, by none other than William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
Meanwhile, it turns out that not only did Obama do favours for convicted Chicago fraudster Tony Rezko, but as this story reports Alexi Giannoulias, who reputedly bankrolled Michael ‘Jaws’ Giorango, a Chicagoan twice convicted of bookmaking and promoting prostitution, became Illinois state treasurer last year after Obama vouched for him, and has now has pledged to raise $100,000 for Obama’s campaign.
You have to pinch yourself – a Marxisant radical who all his life has been mentored by, sat at the feet of, worshipped with, befriended, endorsed the philosophy of, funded and been in turn funded, politically promoted and supported by a nexus comprising black power anti-white racists, Jew-haters, revolutionary Marxists, unrepentant former terrorists and Chicago mobsters, is on the verge of becoming President of the United States. And apparently it’s considered impolite to say so.
What is it like to be a stooge for a losing campaign? Everything you wrote comes from the GOP back room lies and dirty tricks department. You seem to like Stanley Kurtz a lot. Well, news flash for you. He's a rightwingnut. He has absolutely no credentials as an impartial commentator. He's a paid political puke of the Republicans. Take your politicing and blow it out your arse. If you want to post a comment of your ideas, fine, I don't have a problem with that. Don't try turn this place into a rightwingnut forum. No go kiss SP4's butt.
Wouldn't it be a lot easier if a lot of people were at least able to distinguish between facts and smear.Kuntz is indeed nothing more than a figure like Rush Limbaugh .It's ok with me if people want to believe whatever he writes.but expect nothing more than an opinion then ,not a court ruling or the verdict of an investigation board with some sort of authority .The way I see things Obma has never been connected with any kind of wrongdoing at all, certainly not in the AZyr's case or ACORN.Except of course by the GOP smear team. Those guys seem to use different standards than those use in your courts.Guilt by association is one of those GOP rules, like in the good ole McCarthy days.
On the other hand they have no shame of denying a real investigated case like the abuse of power by Palin.
What is so difficult to understand about ethics and the principles of justice ,the working of courts and all that stuff ?
Is there something wrong with your education at school, are these very basic rules unknown or did some some of you just decide to get rid of them bcause they are inconvenient in the electoral battle .Isn't it sufficiently clear that you then throw away democracy itself which is unable to exist without the principles of justice?
'Go back to your little girls club and do what little girls do in Belgium. Nothing I suppose, since nobody in Belgium ever does anything.'
Seems like you are suggesting that the United States effort to save Europe from Nazi Germany in WWII was all in vain. If you believe that, then you certainly must believe that the war in Iraq is totally useless.
Are you a complete isolationist, or just merely a rabid psychotic?
People are too gullible and will believe anything they hear or read about the opposing candidate as the gospel truth. It takes a lot of study over time and delving into who is spewing out the info to sort it all out, and then it can still be up in the air. The bottom line - be very careful what you choose to believe.
If these lines are true,we've all been suckered in the last eight years:

administration is doing everything it can to flat-line the DJIA before they get thrown out of office. If they can do it, it will just be another ''Bush Victory''.
This is what the maverick has been called by colleagues. He has a bad temper, has been accused of being a womanizer, he graduated 894th out of 899, which has been well documented, he was involved in the Keating 5 scandal, he hasn't been very good on issues important to women. He changes his views as the wind blows and admits he doesn't know much about economics - the perfect next president!!
Bush is the all-time tax revenue winner, bringing in more tax revenue all with lower taxes. He beat his predecessor's record, by almost a trillion dollars in the 2006-7 fiscal year, all by LOWERING taxes, not raising them.
So, rather than confuse yourselves with useless trivia about the candidates, try asking yourself why it is a guy like Bush can accomplish such a feat, all by LOWERING taxes, while the dem lib trophy boy seems to think, with no historic precedent to back it up, he can actually raise revenues by raising taxes.
After all, it's YOUR money...
When there is useless trivia about Obama it's a big deal, but when there are facts about McCain - it's to be disregarded as useless trivia.
'Seems like you are suggesting that the United States effort to save Europe from Nazi Germany in WWII was all in vain.'
Perhaps he was suggesting that collaborating, cowardly, knee walking little whores like tonny aren't worth being saved.

Hey - I'm a loser and I know it, so I can promise to spend lots and lots of money that I know isn't available and I could never find, but since I won't be elected I'll never have to meet these empty promises.
But I'm saying it in the vague hope that I might fool a few of your into voting for me so I don't lose too badly
