Reports: Obama to keep Gates at Pentagon for one year
Nov 25, 2008, 21:32 GMT
Washington - US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has agreed to stay in the job for at least one year of president-elect Barack Obama's administration, ABC News and Politico reported Tuesday, citing unnamed officials.
With Gates staying at the helm, Obama keeps in place a key architect of the troop buildup in Iraq that contributed to the sharp decrease in violence during the past 15 months. It will also help Obama fulfill a pledge to have a bipartisan cabinet.
Gates is a registered independent but has served in numerous Republican administrations. He replaced Donald Rumsfeld as Pentagon chief in December 2006.
Obama has spent this week announcing his economic team, and is next week expected to present his national security and foreign policy appointments.

Gates is proof of the Bush success in Iraq and Obama acknowledges it by keeping him on. They have succeeded in establishing a working democracy smack dab in the middle of the middle east, and with a US presence. The Gates appointment proves the Bush doctrine as the success it is.
your tinfoil hat must have fallen off. You're nuttier than ever.
...does not make me wrong.
tried everybody else to lead in Iraq, why not Gates? Pure luck on Bush's part.......had no idea he picked the right man to lead in a war we shouldn't be in. Good for little George.
Don't give Georgie too much credit - he was just a puppet.

President-elect Barak Obama will be taking intelligent step to keep Robert Gates a top spy. He is proactive and a confident fighter. If given free hand he can eliminate al-Qaeda.
