Gunfire erupts at Toys R Us in Palm Desert, California

By April MacIntyre Nov 28, 2008, 20:14 GMT

Grim Black Friday news continues in California where gunfire at a children's toy store has claimed two lives.

The Los Angeles Times and local news affiliates are reporting that a gunman opened fire at a Toys R Us store in Palm Desert, killing two and causing panic for the shoppers inside the store.

Riverside County Sheriff and fire officials responded to 911 calls of a shooting and two gunshot victims at 11:32 a.m. at the toy store in the Desert Crossing Shopping Center at 72314 Highway 111.

"We have two dead individuals inside the store," said Dennis Guitierrez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, told the Associated Press. "The events of why the shots were fired is still ongoing."

The Los Angeles Times claims a witnesses said the "scene at the store and nearby businesses was chaotic."

“I’ve got a bunch of people from Toys R Us that ran out of the building,” Jeff Vallaire, a worker at a nearby World Gym, told the Sun newspaper in Palm Springs. “I’m just hearing from what they told me. They ran out the back. They heard gunshots and came in here. ... It’s pretty crazy around here right now."

What a sick sick sick society. Gunfire killing two in a store, a worker trampled to death at a Wal-Mart, fights breaking out in lines. All for what? Cheap Chinese junk. Boy that really matters doesn't it. Never mind who you kill, mame, injure or ruin their lives just as long as I get that bargain I came for. I say the end is near. For in the last days people will be lovers of themselves and not God and the love of many shall wax cold.

It's absolutely nuts the way people react to sales, and the killings are a tragedy. No one other than law enforcement and military should be allowed hand guns, and maybe everyone is going to have to pass through a detector before entering a place of business or entertainment one of these days. When anyone has an argument, they all pull out guns instead of fists - nothing but stupid cowards. They'll either end up dead or in prison, so what's smart about that.

..where perspective gets lost. Two people(unconfirmed) dead. Now...look at the rest of the world, and compare:

120(?) dead in Indian terror attacks

45000 per month dying in the Congo

No, as bad as this is, none of it compares to the rest of the world.

Those are instances of terrorism and wars not standing in line shopping for christmas gifts for crying out loud. And no I do not advocate taking away the people's right to bear arms. If they shooot and kill people we as a society need to take their life from them so they will never do it again. If only military and police have guns you are great great danger of government completely taking over your life. If you don't think it could happen in America you have a very very arrogant attitude.

I still don't advocate the public carrying concealed handguns. If someone has one in their home, that's a different matter, but no one needs to be carrying one in public. And I also agree that the shooting in the toy store was a terrible situation and doesn't compare with acts of war around the world. People would sing a different tune if they or loved ones were in a place where a shooting occured.

Interesting that in states that do allowed concealed weapons have less crime than those without.

Only in the United States. In countries with gun control, the crime rate is much lower, as is to be expected.

I have no intention whatsoever of ever going to your little cesspool. That does not make me crazy, indeed it demonstrates the opposite. No sane person would give the idea of going there any thought whatsoever.

Sure funny how so many people fight tooth and nail to get into the U.S., and the people here are all descendants of people from every other country in the world anyway!
