Washington - President-elect Barack Obama on Monday nominated Hillary Clinton as secretary of state and announced he would keep Defence Secretary Robert Gates in his current job in widely expected moves to set up his national security team.

Clinton, 61, his former rival, will leave her job as the senator from New York if confirmed to become the nation's next top diplomat. The reappointment of Gates, 65, is designed to ensure a smooth transition takes place as the United States fights two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gates became the head of the Pentagon under President George W Bush in December 2006.

Obama also named former Marine General James Jones to serve as national security advisor.

Naming Clinton to head the State Department would bring a high-profile figure into his cabinet and further help heal wounds among Democrats over the dragged-out contest for the party's nomination.

Many Democrats who supported the former first lady refused to back Obama's candidacy for the White House.

'I have no doubt that Hillary Clinton is the right person to head our State Department,' Obama said.

With Gates at the helm, Obama keeps in place a key architect of the troop buildup in Iraq that contributed to the sharp decrease in violence during the past 15 months. But Gates will be given new orders: Obama has pledged to have all US combat forces out of Iraq within 16 months of taking office January 20.

Asking Gates to stay on also helps Obama fulfill a pledge to have a bipartisan cabinet. Gates is a registered independent but has served in numerous Republican administrations. He replaced Donald Rumsfeld as Pentagon chief in December 2006.

Jones, 64, was the commandant of the Marine Corp from 1999 to 2003 before becoming the NATO's top military commander in 2003. He retired in 2007.

In an emergency, call General Jones, not the President or any of his secretaries. None of them will know what to do.

Well, Mr. PINNOCHIO;

I am glad you got one through.

So, basically you are saying everyone wants a superstar and a savior and all that is really needed is a normal guy with a little common sense and patience and a lot of hand sitting.

Very true. Good thinking. And, you are right: Obama ain't it. He is another power hungry superstar, or so he wants to be. He wants to solve all your problems no matter how much grief it will cause you.

Lets just say it is typical charity mentality: Take our money and food or we will make you poor and starve you out and then you will be happy to be on welfare.

HIYA 'P'Dec 2nd, 2008 - 00:55:25

What does 'P' stand for ? Let me guess - PRAT !

All that crap you have written about ' Gaiacomm International to develop Defeat IED technology ' is the biggest load of uneducated bullshit ever to be printed.

OK, these boneheads are playing around with their super electronics trying to stop just about every other thing on Earth. Fine - it keeps them out of mischief. But honestly, what a joke !

Surely your educational past has not been so deprived for you to ACTUALLY print this crap AND believe it ? You poor sod.

Firstly, every electronic device designed to jam other electronic devices can be jammed itself by electronic counter systems. YOU should know that you blockhead. The Americans and Russians spent nearly 50 years doing exactly THAT !

Secondly my kindergarten scholar, there are thousands of explosive devices and triggering techniques and mechanisms that do NOT rely on electronics, many of them not even a battery.

Ever heard of the humble hand grenade, pressure mine, fuse cord and a million more mechanically operated methods of making something go BANG ?

God man, if a guy is going to commit suicide blowing some others up, he sure `aint going to let these eggheads stop him with their little toys - he will simply use a hand operated device to take them all to Allah`s kingdom in the sky.

I`ve just pee`d myself with laughter, sorry about that, but can you just tease the thing between your ears just a little and really think hard ?
I ask you, would this electronic bullshit you so proudly describe have prevented 9/11 ? Certainly not.

Nobody knew that a few rag-heads armed with a Stanley knife had hijacked 4 aircraft loaded with innocent passengers and certainly never knew their intentions until they plonked the WTC to bits, wrecked half the beloved Pentagon and made a big hole in some poor buggers field.

For heavens sake man, go back and stick to your Rupert-the-Bear books, they are much more in your line and LEAVE US ALONE.

'Defeat IED technology ' is the biggest load of uneducated bullshit ever to be printed.'

True. But what is even more alarming is this:

The typical U.S. citizen has been suckered into thinking a missile defense system can protect something.

For the same reasons you list that the Gaiacomm is a gimmick, so is the missile defense system.

If a missile defense system was actually effective (which it is not) then the counter-strategy would be to drive bombs into an area and watch them explode, or walk them in attached to people, or some such thing. So, while the U.S. suckers spend billions of high-tech gadgets those billions can be easily defeated by a few hundred bucks worth of spare parts.

SUCKERS!!! The whole lot of the typical U.S. citizen and the defense department are suckers through and through. So, not only is that lone internet poster an idiot, so is the entire U.S. government and most of its citizens.

Can you imagine a shout going up in a battle situation of ' Gee Sarge, the battery is flat, we just gotta give in ' or ' Hey Sarge, I`ve got a broken wire, we just gotta surrender'.

'So you are saying you are an atypical American or none at all?'

What I am saying is that there use to be a thing as 'the silent majority', and illusionary mass of people in the U.S. that were sensible. It was plausible as long as they were silent and untested.

Now the majority is not silent and is full of jesus-bomb crusaders and credit-holic mentally ill people that like to get their children into debt.

So, now there is the 'silent minority' that is just trying to keep the hell out of the way as the majority wreaks havoc on the world, both present and future. It is not enough that they mass kill muslims in the present, the actually have to wreak havoc on future generations as well with incredible financial irresponsibility.

It is obscene.

Go it man, give `em hell. You`re far to sensible for the average American. All they understand is what they are told by their masters and to keep flying their little flags whilst singing verse after verse of that load of lyrical crap called 'The Star Spangled Banner', or that even bigger load of crap called 'God Bless America'.

So long as ESS PEE is in a self inflicted drug induced coma, you`ll do just fine. But when he comes round, be prepared for a broadside of utter irrational nonsense. Can`t wait.
