Six die in Washington DC fire
Jan 1, 2009, 21:24 GMT
Washington (dopa) - Three adults and three children were killed early Thursday in a house fire in Washington DC as the nation's capital woke to a briskly cold and sunny New Year's morning, media reports said.
The children were aged 11, 10 and four, the Washington Post reported online. The fire, which was reported at about 7 am, also injured another adult and a 15-year-old boy.
Washington's Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department spokesman Alan Etter told the Post it was one of the worst fires ever in the nation's capitol in recent years. He said no evidence had yet been found that would indicate other than natural causes.
In 2008, the total of deaths from fire in the city was five, WTOP radio reported earlier Thursday.
