Washington - US President Barack Obama signed an executive order on Thursday to close the controversial prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba within a year.

The order sets into motion a review of the cases of all the remaining 245 detainees at the facility and an evaluation of ways to relocate them. That could involve repatriating them to their home nations or to a third country.

Obama also signed an order banning inhumane treatment of detainees and mandating that any interrogations of terrorism suspects in US custody come under the compliance of the US Army's Field Manual. Detainees would also be subject to rules outlined in international treaties such as the Geneva Conventions.

Obama's action marks a swift reversal of former president George W Bush's controversial policies in the war on terrorism.

So it goes in the U.S. One day torture is in, due process and speedy trial is out. The next day torture is out, due process is in and speedy trial is still out. Completely arbitrary. One step forward and one step backward. Today we see progress in the eyes of 1/2 the U.S. population, and a setback in the eyes of the other 1/2 of the U.S. population. Justice is arbitrary.

'Lance have to be the most negative people in the U.S'

I would never lockup a person without due process, which means I think: 'people are innocent until proven guilty'

Which is a very positive outlook on things. Unlike Bush, who thinks: 'people are guilty as hell, period'.

The typical U.S. citizen supports plenty of negativity in the United States. For example:

Obama thinks the typical U.S. redneck citizen can't make it on their own and needs welfare cash in the disguise of 'economic stimulus' to be sent directly to them. Whereas I think the redneck can make it on their own. They are resourceful enough and if forced by circumstances they can make the right decisions. But, if they are drowned in debt, welfare checks, underhanded deals and sympathetic hand holding then they will never make it. They will be sucking of the tits of government welfare for the rest of their lives.

Again: I have confidence in the redneck. Obama does not.

'You are probably a serious loser in reality.'

As you hardly know anything about me, your comments are pointless and meaningless.

However, your comments do reflect a very significant psyche of the typical U.S. citizen:

If someone points out your weakness then do not improve yourself. Rather deny it, kill them or tell them they are a sinner too, or some such thing. And collect your welfare check disguised as a 'economic stimulus' check.

The United States use to be full of leaders with focus that knew and liked what they did and got things done, such as exterminate the American Indian varmint, or burn a few niggers on Saturday night right before going to church the next day. Now, the United States is full of sniffling excuse makers.

One thing I'll say about the old United States: At least they weren't hypocrites.

Whine, whine, snivel. Lance, sweety, we know plenty about you. For example, we know that you are a vegetarian. That means you eat nothing but veggies. Veggies eat fertilizer, such a cow dung. You are what you eat, Lance. You are a pile of sh*t. That is all that we need to know.

'For example, we know that you are a vegetarian. That means you eat nothing but veggies.'

That would be a vegan. I am a vegetarian and will eat animal products, such as milk and unfertilized eggs, that are guaranteed not to cause the death of an animal or the systematic life long torture of an animal. Primarily that means certified free range and organic.

And, I am proud of my explicit way of life. Unlike the typical U.S. citizen that will shove anything into their mouths, even when it kills them or comes from nefarious sources.

@lanceJan 22nd, 2009 - 23:15:23

A Vegan is a being from Vegas. However, I haven't met a REAL Vegan. I'm not even sure that there are sentient beings there. Now that you have been educated, we can get back to the facts of the matter and away from your poor attempt at deflection.
Fact: Vegetables eat sh*t.
Fact: You eat vegetables.
Fact: You are what you eat.
Ergo, you are a full of sh*t vegetable.
Nothing you can say will ever alter that fact.
By the way, sh*t-head, cow milk is for calves. The human body does not have the enzymes to properly digest cow milk. For you to get proper nutrition from milk, you'd have to go back to your mommy. Do I hear her calling you for supper? To destroy that fact as well, the human body loses the enzyme to digest human milk at a very early age. Milk, plain and simple, is not good for you.
As for unfertilized eggs, well, what can I say. You're eating dead things, Mr, Out-To-Lunch. The basic fact of life is: In order to maintain Life, you MUST eat Life. So, Mr. Sh*t-pile, go out and kill an animal yourself, so that you see it doesn't suffer. See the light in it's eyes die. Slit it's throat to bleed it. Take your knife and open up the gut sack. Get that gore all over you. Slice out the liver and heart and dive in while it's still hot and fresh. Eat it raw. Eat well.

Let's do lunch. Ill even meet you half way. Organically grown grain to make the Rye bread which will be the bookends for a mountain corned beef. Of course the mustard will be from organically grown mustard plants. The mustard seeds will then be squished to death between two rollers exerting 10,000 pounds of pressure. Their demise will be quick. How painless that is to the seeds, I'm not sure. But it is effective. How about a glass of wine?
I'm glad I'm not there to hear the grapes scream as they are unceremoniously yanked from from the vine. Then the crushing death they go through. Absolutely hideous. Throw in some yeast and sugar(organic, of course) and let it rot for a month or so. Voila - wine. Yup, let's do lunch, Lance. By the way, Lance, don't drink the water. Fish p*ss and sh*t and f*ck in it.

Those deaths, by war, are on his head....and on Congress's head, on the American public's head. They were made by two branches of government, arrived at by law, and executed by the Consitution. They withstood legal challenge. They were to keep the republic and it's allies safe, not feed the citizenry into a suicide pact, no matter whether they succeeded or not.

Yobama, on the other hand, is soley responsible for any deaths from this fool's errand he is on. They said that 'closing GTMO would make America safer' because it's used as a powerful recruitment tool by terrorists.

As usual SP4, you make stuff up ... missing what they actually said, you create your own lies ... then you get yourself all worked up over your own lies ... comedy, pure comedy.

Why do you wanna help the terrorists, SP4?

How is closing that country club called Gitmo going to make America safer?

It is NOT a recruiting tool you numbnut.

If I remember correctly, the attacks on New York, Pennsylvania, attacks on the Pentagon, there was not 1 single muslim terrorist in prison at that time Mr. Genius.

How do you explain that fact?

Here is another fact to disect your alleged viewpoint.

Where were the muslim prisoners in Gitmo when the USS Cole was attacked, where were they when 2 US embassies were bombed in Africa?

Where were the muslim jihadists at Guantanamo when the US barracks were bombed in Saudi Arabia??

Gitmo HAS NOTHING to do with any recruiting for new muslim terrorists so stop fouling your skirt over these international gangsters who should be executed ON THE SPOT when caught.

The US is being attacked for the reason that we are the most powerful, democratic, traditionally Christian, richest nation on earth that is the most resistant to the encroachment of islime on the world.

We are attacked because we will not bow to these 7th century barbarians who refuse to join the 21st century so I wish to see them thrown back across the oceans to their ancestral homelands....you can join them.

America may be injured on occasion, but we will not bow or be broken by the cult of death know as islam.

Former comment: I would never lockup a person without due process, which means I think: 'people are innocent until proven guilty'

In reality: A person is neither innocent nor guilty until proven innocent or guilty.

In addition: This principal is not in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, or any other founding document of the United States. It was already an unwritten tenant of English Common Law. The phrase entered US law through a Supreme Court decision which reversed a lower court because the jury had not been instructed, 'The law presumes that persons charged with crime are innocent until they are proven by competent evidence to be guilty' in 1894.

How many of you out there presumed OJ was innocent?

Nevertheless: Due process is a fundamental right. The Fifth Amendment of the Constitution (ratified 1791) requires that the federal government not deprive any person of “life, liberty, or property without due process of law.” The same language is included in the Fourteenth Amendment (ratified 1868) as a constraint on the states.

The central aim of due process doctrine is to assure fair procedure when the government imposes a burden on an individual. I see nothing wrong with extending this doctrine to foreign enemies as it would simply make dealing with such enemies a fairer procedure for them as well. After all, mistakes are possible.
