US Supreme Court justice Ginsburg hospitalized
Feb 5, 2009, 17:56 GMT
Washington - US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent surgery Thursday for pancreatic cancer and will remain in hospital at least a week, the country's top court said in a statement.
Ginsburg, 75, was discovered to have a small tumour in the pancreas during a routine check-up in January. She was operated on successfully at New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre but would remain at the hospital for 7-10 days, the court said.
Ginsburg is considered one of the more left-leaning of the court's nine justices. She was appointed to the Supreme Court by former president Bill Clinton in 1993.
