Washington - US lawmakers reached a compromise deal Wednesday on a record economic recovery package which could allow the plan to pass both houses of Congress before the end of the week.

The leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives ironed out differences in separate versions of the stimulus bill and knocked the total price tag down to 789 billion dollars. The measure includes a mixture of tax cuts and government spending projects to pull the US out of its worst recession in decades.

The chambers had earlier each passed separate versions of the legislation, with the Senate approving an 838-billion-dollar deal Tuesday and the House passing a 819-billion-dollar version last week. In announcing the deal on Wednesday, senators praised the ability to shave billions off the cost of the programme while staying faithful to efforts to boost the economy and create jobs.

'The agreement we've reached stays faithful to the principles we've outlined,' Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, noting that it costs less and will create more jobs than both earlier versions of the legislation.

The compromise includes about 276 billion dollars in tax relief, or 35 per cent of the plan, and also increases spending on infrastructure projects to 150 billion dollars, said Senator Susan Collins, who was one of three Republicans to work out the Senate version of the bill.

It also includes a fund to help state governments hard hit by the crisis to close holes in their budgets. Most of the nation's 50 states are predicting budget shortfalls, with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger threatening to lay off 10,000 state employees.

Both chambers must now vote on the new version of the bill and Reid said he hopes to have it completed within the next few days, perhaps as early as Thursday, to meet a goal set by President Barack Obama of signing the legislation into law by the Presidents Day holiday on Monday.

Obama, who views the stimulus as the cornerstone of his efforts to revive the US economy, continued to urge its quick passage during a visit to a construction site in Springfield, Virginia earlier Wednesday.

'We're at the doorstep of getting this plan through the Congress,' Obama said, calling the stimulus package 'both urgent and essential to our recovery.'

About 3.6 million jobs have been lost and the unemployment rate has crept to 7.6 per cent since the US recession began in December 2007. Obama has promised his stimulus will save or create up to 4 million new jobs.

The U.S. is corrupt. See below. Even when they think they will not encounter corruption, and then do encounter corruption, they still say 'I don't think that we will in our lifetimes', when they just did encounter corruption.

Fraud on massive scales, stealing money, taking kickbacks, you name it. And, the 'typical U.S. citizen' buries their head in the sand and pretends like it is not true, and then lines up in the 'mother of all kick back line' to get the payouts and kickbacks ... welfare.

'But you never do ANYTHING.'

Not accepting kickbacks, bribes and payoffs is the first step to doing something.

Most of the time, the most important thing is not what you do, but what you don't do.

The next important thing is to not be complicit in the fraud, kickbacks, bribes and payoffs by ignoring it, making excuses for it or being silent about it.

There are many other things that I do, but I'm not going to explain those.

... and you hardly know that 'I never do ANYTHING'. The facts are actually substantially the converse. But, again: The subject is not about me, it is about the President and Congress of the United States participating in fraud, kickbacks, bribes and payoffs.

In response to one of my posters Lance asked 'WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE *OVER THERE ?*. Since I am OVER HERE in the US, then he must be OVER THERE.
It all adds up now, since he often posts in the MIDDLE EAST section, especially if the article has an American or Israeli flavor.

He must therefore live in some maggot infested Islamic shit-house. It`s anybodies guess where, they are all the same. Middle East, Pakistan, who knows, they all stink to high heaven and are full of fanatical maniacs wanting to destroy everything civilised, even their own people and property.

Lance is intensely jealous of America to the point of insane hatred, we being the world`s greatest and most prosperous nation and his country being a grovelling poor pile of sand and flies.

He is not interested in American events, only to write vicious provocative posters, so as to get us all wound up. It is the only way this irrelevant little Muslim turd-ball can get at us, by insult disguised as rhetoric.

He WANTS us to reply to his hateful slime, to get immense satisfaction in verbally attacking the US and receiving the kind of replies we give him. He absolutely revels in reciprocate hate.

SO - PLEASE all of you including SP4 who falls straight into Lance`s clever web of hate every time - read his Islamic shit if you must, but TOTALLY IGNORE IT and DO NOT RESPOND !

This way Lance will be deprived of his personal hate game and will simply fade away on an empty tank and perhaps with luck step onto one of those landmines his beloved Muslim scumbags have planted to kill Americans.

Blah, Blah, Blah...I'd rather watch paint dry. Like most libnazis, once confronted by a Sara palin, or Joe the Plumber, or a Rush Limbaugh, and their elegant, cogent, clear-minded arguments, your facist tendency is to dismember them, using any means possible. This is preferable to defending your views, which are undefendable, and the reason for the personal attacks. The idea of being shown up by plain folk is utterly repugnant and so attacking their families, lifestyles, education, etc. is the preferred libnazi approach.

This is because Liberalism is the religion of the age. Libnazis did not like the old religions, because the idea of someone higher than them was unnacceptable. Far more fun to be gods than mere men.

They have a prophet (Gore) a church (the libnazi univeristy sytem) with it's inquisitors ( Libnazi Drive-By Media) their clergy (acadamia) and their Cardinals ( Libnazi politicians ), and now their golden (black) idol, virgin figure and Messiah all-in-one, Obama, but most of all, they have their mindless, cultish, automaton-like faithful, people like...well..you sir.

So run along and read the dogma, but when you come here, no one is buying what you're selling, the holier-than-thou libnazi scripture, written on stone tablets and carried down from on-high from your Al Gore, or whomever. Now run along, kneel to your new god, and pray he has a miricle for you.

John McCain predicted Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crises, pushed 2005 legislation to prevent trouble:

The 'FEDERAL HOUSING ENTERPRISE REGULATORY REFORM ACT OF 2005' would have headed this off but it was killed in the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs by Chris Dodd who recieved the most money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

President Bush sought to rein in Fannie and Freddie in 2003.

The Democratic response to Bush in 2003:

“These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. “The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

“I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said.

Then tell us what Bush did to prevent the economy tanking (since you say he saw it coming for 5 yrs) ... yes, tell us, SP4!

I expect you to retort with your usual dribble about Clinton, missing Bin Laden ... or not accepting an offer of him (before he attacked the US).

We know that stuff already ... and we know you like to use it as a diversion from the question of why Bush DID NOTHING.

So save us the trouble from that straw man argument style of yours.

Just tell us why Bush DID NOTHING to prevent both ... the economy tanking, and about Bin Laden.

Just DO THAT SP4

why bush did nothing.Feb 12th, 2009 - 17:51:49

perhaps there is a specific reason for him doing nothing.
perhaps it suited him and his gang better to do nothing about both!
with the exact order things happened.
he sure did a lot about the taxes to the rich and the wars for petrol and resourses, did a lot till the bitter end, and his gang's plan is still on course.
if you can think, figure it out for your self!
nothing happens, or doesn't happen with out good reason, right?

Watt said.

As usual SP4 can't answer a question ...Feb 12th, 2009 - 18:38:23

The question was 'What did Bush do to prevent the economy tanking (since he said he saw it coming for 5 yrs)?'

SP4s reply... 'FEDERAL HOUSING ENTERPRISE REGULATORY REFORM ACT OF 2005'

Hey SP4 ... NEWSFLASH ... Bush didn't sponsor that bill. Bush had NOTHING to do with it.

It was sponsored in the Senate by: Sen. Charles Hagel [R, NE], Sen. Elizabeth Dole [R, NC], Sen. John McCain [R, AZ], Sen. John Sununu [R, NH]

It was thwarted by Dodd and Frank ... But notice Obama didn't thwart it (so your attempts at connecting him to it couldn't be more far off target ... no surprise there.)

Yeah ... facts are stubborn things SP4 ... just like you are stubborn ... only facts are not as stupid as you are.

So I'll ask again SP4 ... (since you apparently didn't get it )

What did BUSH do to prevent the economy tanking (since he said he saw it coming for 5 yrs)?

and ... What did BUSH do to prevent 9-11?

Oh yeah SP4 ... What did BUSH DO? No gross generalizations. Give us specifics. (proposed legislation etc)

Keep in mind ... 2003 until 2007 the Republican party controlled the Senate of the United States, the House of Representatives and the presidency.

Again ... What did BUSH do? (specifics)

More Britner Spears news:

The one-time boyfriend of Britney Spears who is under court order to stay away from her -- is under investigation for felony assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle.

Here's what went down. Yesterday morning, a process server went to Ghalib's Encino apartment to hand him legal papers ordering him to appear in the restraining order case.

The process server was waiting for Adnan Ghalib in the alley when Ghalib rolled up and allegedly hit the dude with his car. The process server says he landed on the hood of Adnan's car.

Adnan allegedly fled the scene and the process server called cops at 10:42 AM. Police arrived and noticed the process server had cuts and scratches, but he refused treatment.

The case is under investigation. Ghalib is the suspect and the alleged crime is assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle -- a felony.

Time to focus- What does the public knowFeb 12th, 2009 - 20:18:55

While there are still plenty of unanswered questions as Congress prepares to vote on the Democrats’ trillion-dollar spending bill (possibly multi-trillion dollar spending spree), here’s what we do know: the legislation is loaded up with plenty of unfocused and wasteful Washington spending – a price to be paid by small businesses, which apparently will see very little tax relief under the as-yet-unseen House-Senate “deal.” In fact, it appears the amount of direct small business tax relief in the legislation amounts to about one-third of one percent of the total bill, just $3 billion in tax relief out of a $789.5 billion bill. So, what’s getting funded at the expense of small business owners and workers across the country?

Here are just a few examples: $2 billion for 'Neighborhood Stabilization,' money which will be available to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), an organization accused of perpetrating voter registration fraud numerous times in the last several elections and reportedly under federal investigation; $1 billion for a new “Prevention and Wellness Fund,” which would be available for education programs on sexually-transmitted diseases; and millions for the federal government to buy plug-in cars.

Nancy Pelosie has money to protect a gerbil or mouse or rat or pest in her backyard...At the expense of small business.

This begs the question: How will any of this spending create new jobs? And, since small businesses are the engine of job creation in this country, why are these programs and projects being funded at the expense of those who own and are employed by small businesses?

'...one simple post, of the facts and folks just blow their ovaries over it! It's like shooting a bee's nest with a 22 cal. Rifle! It sets off a linti switch in every libnazi ass on the site! Gooood!

Hey Idiots Stick all of your posts are 'simple', as they come from a simple mind.

'Good question though...what did Bush actually do? Well, let's cover it in a way you can understand...'

The real fact is that Bush did nothing, and your Republican't Senator and House did nothing along with him---nothing except spend us into a depression.

I eliminated your redneck babble.

'Here let's try it again...' 'This was preventable.'

Yes it was, dump the Republicants in 2004 and this would not have happened.

'SP4 - clear and conciseSep 21st, 2008 - 01:59:13'

You are a complete an total idiot, quoting yourself---like you are quotable. What a joke!

'John McCain predicted Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crises, pushed 2005 legislation to prevent trouble:'

You keep spouting this crap, why did he not round up his Republicant's brothers and sisters and stop this. At this time he had a majority, could have stopped anything he wanted. PS, John McSame lost, and you lost so who cares what John McSame has to say?

'SP4 - even more clear, no ambiguities here. Pity it wasn't Palin, eh?

Stupid and wrong. I can only hope you idiots run Caribou Barbi. That will be fun.

'The 'FEDERAL HOUSING ENTERPRISE REGULATORY REFORM ACT OF 2005''

Again stupid and wrong. In 2005 you had a majority in the senate and the house and a Republican't President---why didn't you 'stop it' stupid?

'SP4 - proposed legislation - certainly you can understand that.'

Anything you spout is understandable even by a 3rd grader.

'would have headed this off but it was killed in the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs by Chris Dodd who recieved the most money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.'

How stupid are you really? The minority party stopped the majority party??? Friggin ignorant pri*k,

'SP4 _ Chris Dodd, senator, Liubnazi, Killed off.. Clear and concise.'

Liar, just saying so does not make it correct.

'President Bush sought to rein in Fannie and Freddie in 2003.'

Liar, he had the majority in the house and the senate and he failed to do what he should have done!!!!

'The Democratic response to Bush in 2003:

At the time you stupid moron, there was no problems. The spend, spend, spend of the Republicant's for he next 3 years caused the implosion of the housing market, stupid.

'Now, dipsticks, do you require any more than this...the smoking gun, the burning bush...Bush, Buush!...???'

Yea how about some real facts idiots stick? By the way, more spelling errors than one can count and more grammar mistakes than my 1st grader makes and by the way stupid, you do not have to put your stupid moniker by your comments, we are much smarter that you are and can figure it out.

It's actually funny to see him squirm that way.

SP4 didn't post any specifics on what Bush did ... because Bush did nothing.
