Los Angeles - US president Barack Obama will appear on comedian Jay Leno's Tonight show on Thursday, the show's producers said Monday.
The appearance of Obama on one of the most popular shows on television comes as he is trying to muster support for his plans to revive the US economy and reform the health and education systems.
Though presidential candidates often use late-night television shows to reach the public, this will be the first time a sitting president has come on the Tonight show, said US network NBC in announcing the appearance.

I have some mixed feelings about a President being on a late-night show (Chelsea Lately next?), but this is where the public is; so why not?
I'd rather he be on Charlie Rose or Bill Moyers or Gwen Ifill - but this visit will not get a GOP appearance in rebuttal. Those moderators would bring up FACTS, which is where the GOP puts its foot in its mouth.
Bush was inadvertantly funny while serving right in the White House; but today no one is laughing about it. Obama can actually get away with some humor, because there's a functioning brain in his head, rather than a Neocon echo chamber.
