Three police officers killed in Pennsylvania (Extra)
Apr 4, 2009, 20:04 GMT
Washington - Three police officers were killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, officials said.
Two officers were called to a home in the western Pennsylvania city on Saturday morning and were shot when they approached the door. A third officer, who arrived to back up the officers, was also shot and killed.
Police chief Nathan Harper said in a televised press conference that a man barricaded in the home continued to shoot at police officers from the elite SWAT team responded to the shooting. Residents of neighbouring homes were evacuated.
A total of 100 rounds were exchanged between the police and the suspect, Richard Poplowski, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest and was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, a long rifle and a pistol, Harper said.
Two other police officers and Poplowski were injured in the incident. The suspect was in police custody.
The shooting was the latest in a string of multiple shootings in the US in recent weeks. On Friday, a Vietnamese immigrant killed 13 people and himself in an attack at a community centre in Binghamton, New York. Two weeks ago, four police were killed in Oakland, California, in what was the deadliest day for law enforcement officers since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

If that isn't our old friend SP4 reappearing as texas fred from the lunatic asylum to claim once more that if Japan did not invade the USA it was because it's citizens were armed .Is there anybody out there to believe these nonsense ?
It is just another ranting from an NRA moron trying to persuade you all that guns are good for you and that all the shooting sprees that happen in the USA ,killing ten thousands ever year is the price to pay for your freedom .Ma I ask that idiot why Japan didn't invade Europe then ?
But why is SP4 taking on this new identity .I can not believe anybody else but him can be so stupid as to post that nonsense ...
Every week children are killed and all the idiots from the NRA can respond to that is to propagate the idea that on the university campus students should be allowed to wear concealed weapo,s 'to protect themselves'.
Soon they will propose the same things for toddlers, you just have to wait until a crazy gunslinger starts a kindergarten massacre.
The idiot point about Japan not invading the US because of it's armed citizenry was made by SPfudd some time ago. I've never heard of our having received guns from Texas, presumably after the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940, but consider it unlikely. It was our heavy equipment, not smallarms, that had to be abandoned and unless the good private citizens of Texas were in a position to donate us a large number of tanks or howitzers there would have been little that they could usefully offer. The idea of confronting the Wehrmacht with a brace of pearl handled six-shooters and someone's grandpappy's Winchester repeater would seem a tad eccentric to me!
[In the event, although there was only one fully equipped first rate frontline unit in Britain at the time (1st Canadian Division), the failure of the Germans to invade can largely be attributed to their own initial lack of preparedness to do so, Our Naval superiority, the unwillingness of the German high command to adopt the narrow front operation favoured by their navy as being the only option that the Kriegsmarine said they had even an outside chance of being able to protect, and, of course the subsequent Battle of Britain which rendered German invasion plans largely academic in any case.]
As to the virtues of an armed vs unarmed citizenry it can surely have little bearing on the question of atrocities committed by aberrant lunatics, apart from the obvious point of basic accessibility of the required weapons. Yet even in societies that are largely gun free, a determined madman can usually find a way. The terrible Dunblane and Hungerford shootings over here, and the recent tragedy in Germany attest to that.
Is our 'Texian' and SPfuddled one and the same? Who cares? I'm more interested in whether the first respondent is the real 'Tonny.' As someone else has already pointed out, the English is far better but the tone more combative and strident than the civilised original. On balance, I would suggest that the real 'Tonny from Belgium' would be well aware that Imperial Japan would have been happy to rely on it's ally, Nazi Germany, to make a fair crack at the invasion of Europe. Or has that little episode been forgotten in Belgium?
If anything, their comments read like second-class fiction.
That is not the real Tonny from Belgium. It is none other than Tony from Bilge-um. The real Tonny never used a quad left, return in his entire life. No, it is not the real Tonny, it is another demented american. As a matter of interest, if you look at the first two posts very closely, it appears that they are written by the same person.
Of course I'm aware that Japan would rely on Germany to 'invade ' us all.But the completely ridiculous argument about Japan not invading the USA ws tied to theto use the fact that part of the US citizens carried weapons was too absurd to go unchallenged.
The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour to eliminate the US fleet, precisely in a bid to have their hands free in the Pacific and Asia ,knowing it was absurd to invade continental USA,take good notice of the fact they even never considered invading or occupying Hawaii..Imagine the means and logistics for a full scale invasion and occupation of the USA by such a small county as Japan .the financial cost of that alone would be an impossible burden on Japan, not even to mention the logistical and military side of it :stationing and equipping a gigantic occupation army in hostile territory with supply lines over sea from Japan. What a nightmare for military planners.Hence Pearl Harbour that Japan saw as the only possible scenario to have it's hands free in the Pacific for at least ten years,by destroying the only force that was capable of tampering with it's imperial ambition.Even the idea of occupying Australia was only remotely considered and quickly abandoned .
So the concept of brushing aside the lives of ten thousands of people killed every year for that invoked reason is too ridicule to leave unchallenged .It was indeed SP4,with his deranged brain, that introduced this argument, which we never have heard before .If this kind of argument is shared by anybody else (hard to imagine that there are actually two persons on this planet with exactly the same erratic neurons misfiring);then I'm afraid the historical education of some needs to be improved .
Precisely what proof do you have that it was SP4? You made thae assertion, now back it up, or back up. You share the same erratic synapse firings as Sp4. Get real. You are NOT the real Tonny from Belgium. You're a poser.
don't mention sp4 here anymore

It's a shame this man was captured. Now we will have to listen to the 'mitigating circumstances' that caused this creep to shoot the Officers...this along with the Vietnamese creep in New York and the hew and cry that we must all give up our guns because two creeps should not have had them.
In the past, our guns have caused Imperial Japan not to consider an attack on this mainland as viable, folks. Add to that local Texans had to give England guns for her Home Security troops in WWII in case the Germans were coming that last 26 miles. They had none for them.
DO not listen to the anti-gun commies. Their intent is to at least run your lives and at worst to take your country over the easy way. Either way, they do not care if you are disarmed right in front of worsening crime waves and criminals they have let in your country.
