Obama confirms Guantanamo detainee to be tried in US (Extra)

May 21, 2009, 15:28 GMT

Washington - US President Barack Obama confirmed Thursday that a Guantanamo Bay detainee accused of participating in the al- Qaeda bombings of two US embassies in Africa will be tried in the United States.

Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani would be the first Guantanamo detainee to be tried in the United States. He will be taken to a federal court in New York. He has already been indicted in the deaths of more than 200 people, including mostly local Africans and 12 US citizens, in the bombings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.

'Preventing this detainee from coming to our shores would prevent his trial and conviction,' Obama said in a major national security address in Washington. 'And after over a decade, it is time to finally see that justice is served, and that is what we intend to do.'

Obama was discussing his plans to close Guantanamo by January when he announced the criminal proceedings against Ghailani.

...of all of the detainees, this one must have a half dozen countires that could take him, try and convict him yet for whatever reason he is kept here for trial.

It's called a fair trial. How about we shoot you and then convict you and then make up some evidence, so that we can shoot you again.

Perhaps you could clarify yout thoughts SP4,as they stand now ,it appears you are trying to sow some doubts on something, but you don't know on what exactly .You are triggered by something Obama has announced,so it must be bad to you, nfortunately your mind seems incapable of telling you what that could be.You've only managed to make that much clear to us ,is there more to follow ?Some deeper fear perhaps ?

..whenever you appear, it is a sign the libnazi left is exposing itself, so you retreat into:

he's stupid,

he's ignorant

he's crazy

The usual libnazi playbook.

Perhaps we can now ask Barak obout the utility of such proceedings, when there are a dozen nations who, clearly, have claim to this guy. Obama advocates axporting them and then proceeds to begin legal proceedings against one of them? What is it he really wants? He seeks to get rid of them and then advocates housing them in a far more dangerous place than they currently reside...???? If you don't think so, have the Red Cross ASK them!

Then, of course there's the Gitmo east being set up in Aghanistan, the outsourcing of 'interrogations' and renditions, the acceptance of Bush era warrantless wiretaps, etc., etc.

Hey SP1/4 of a brain ...May 22nd, 2009 - 14:52:22

You've posted countless comments saying you 'believe in the rule of law'.

Yet here you are ... eager to contra-dicked yourself again ... posting objections to it actually being applied. (not just this article, but many others as well).

You talk about your support of the Constitution and the rule of law, but you just can't handle the idea of them actually being applied.

Have you no faith in 'the rule of law', SP1/4 of a brain?

Were you merely spouting empty words when you said you believe in 'the rule of law', SP1/4 inch penis?

Have you no backbone to stand behind your previous support for the rule of law, SP1/4 of a man?

(answer: yes to all of the above)

..try not to talk when the grown ups are talking.....OK?

Even a clot like you must realize the horror of sending what are not criminals to a US prison. Let me lay it out for you:

They'll be f--ked

They'll be shanked for cigarette money

They'll be murdered by any of a half dozen gangs

Even now, Obama had to call in the only grown up in the Obama administration, Gates, and get a parachute out of this mess. Gate's answer?

Surprise!

A NEW holding facility, separate from the US prison system. Apparantly, Gates did the same math Bush and Cheney did eight years ago and Barak got him to pimp it, in case it blows up, again, in his face.

Now monkey boy, if you are still unconvinced, run up and ask any of the three mexican step daddies in the bedroom with your two mommies which they'd prefer, Prison or Gitmo and remember that, if they prefer prison, it's likely due to the sex on Conjugial visits they would get from you and your mommies...now run along and inform yourself.

'..whenever you appear, it is a sign the libnazi left is exposing itself, so you retreat into:

And whenever you appear, no one is impressed with your dimwit brain or your total lack of reality because you are always wrong and could not recognize the truth if it hit you in the face.

'he's stupid,'

So true!

'he's ignorant'

Again true!

'he's crazy'

For sure!

'The usual libnazi playbook.'

The truth always hurts you stupid, ignorant, crazy right wing nut jobs!

'Perhaps we can now ask Barak obout the utility of such proceedings, when there are a dozen nations who, clearly, have claim to this guy. Hey stupid what is 'axporting'? The problem is you stupid POS is that they are not being given a chance to be given a trial and defend themselves. Gitmo is just like everything your failed administration supported---anti-constitutional.

'Then, of course there's the Gitmo east being set up in Aghanistan, the outsourcing of 'interrogations' and renditions, the acceptance of Bush era warrantless wiretaps, etc., etc.'

Another lie from the liar of the board.

We can always count on SP4 ...May 22nd, 2009 - 21:42:40

... to say he believes in something (i.e. rule of law) ... and then be the first weasel who wants to abandon it as soon as it takes effort to stay with it.

So now you're saying you're concerned for 'their' safety?

Bwa ha ah ha ha!!

You're arguments make you look very afraid and very weak SP4.
