Merkel: Kennedy man of "conviction and steadfastness" (Extra)

Berlin - German Chancellor Angela Merkel sent her condolences to the Kennedy family Wednesday, following the death of Senator Edward Kennedy, 77.
Merkel said that Kennedy was 'for decades one of the most prominent personalities in American politics. His advocacy of justice and peace was characterised by conviction and steadfastness.'
'Germany and Europe have lost a good and treasured friend,' Merkel said.
