Oprah to declare 2011 end to landmark talk show
Nov 20, 2009, 8:48 GMT
Washington - Talk-show mogul Oprah Winfrey is due to announce Friday that she will end her long-running syndicated daytime show in 2011, her production company said.
The Chicago Tribune and other news outlets cited Winfrey's Harpo Productions as confirming that the show - which has been the top- rated daytime talk programme for a generation - will end after completing 25 years on the air.
The Chicago-based show started in 1986.
Winfrey, whose personal fortune is estimated in the billions, has built an empire based on her following from the show.
She has been able to use her personal brand to start a lifestyle magazine and has financial interests in book publishing, websites, television production and syndication and a host of charitable activities. Several of Winfrey's frequent guests have gone on to host shows of their own, mostly produced by her company.
She is partnering with Discovery Networks to start the Oprah Winfrey Network, now expected to debut around the time that her show ends.
