Jan 8, 2010, 8:09 GMT
San Francisco - A 4.1-magnitude earthquake rattled San Francisco Thursday morning, the US Geological Survey said.
The tremors were felt in San Francisco and cities throughout the Bay Area, but there were no reports of significant damage or casualties.
The earthquake struck on the Calaveras fault about 9.6 kilometres east-northeast from Milpitas and 16 kilometres from downtown San Jose.
A 2.8-magnitude quake in the same area on Wednesday night may have been the foreshock, KCBS radio reported. There was a series of aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 1.5 to 2.2 within 15 minutes of Thursday's quake.
