Washington - Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, charged with attempting to blow up a Christmas Day flight over Detroit, pleaded not guilty in federal court on Friday, US broadcaster CNN reported.
Abdulmutallab entered the plea during a brief arraignment hearing in Detroit at the District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Appearing in court for the first time since the failed December 25 plot, he said he understood the charges against him.
Abdulmutallab, 23, faces six criminal charges, including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, and could face up to life in prison if convicted.
