Evacuations ordered as more mudslides threaten California
Feb 9, 2010, 18:26 GMT
Los Angeles - Authorities in southern California issued evacuation orders to some 500 residences Tuesday that are threatened by mudslides in a prolonged bout of unusually wet weather.
The evacuation orders were concentrated in the La Canada Flintridge area of Los Angeles County. The hilly district was ravaged by wildfires last year and there is little vegetation in place to prevent the saturated earth from sliding down onto houses.
Many of the people ordered to move out had just returned home from a previous round of evacuations prompted by weekend storms that causes mudslides in the same area and damaged 43 homes.
