US welcomes release of Cuban dissident

Washington - The United States on Monday welcomed the release of Cuban dissident Ariel Sigler but called on Havana to release all politcal prisoners.
Sigler, a 47-year-old paraplegic, was freed on Saturday following mediation efforts by the Catholic Church to win the release of dozens of jailed activists.
Sigler was among 75 dissidents who were arrested in 2003 and have been behind bars since.
State Department spokesman PJ Crowely said his release was a 'positive development' that, hopefully, will lead to the release of other peaceful opponents of the Cuban government.
'Prisoners should be released immediately and unconditionally,' he said.
