Denver to vote on extraterrestrial life
Oct 29, 2010, 20:45 GMT
Los Angeles - If extraterrestrial beings ever make it to Earth, the city of Denver may be ready for them.
Residents of the Colorado metropolis will vote on Tuesday on a proposal to establish an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission to 'ensure the health, safety and cultural awareness of Denver residents' when it comes to future contact 'with extraterrestrial intelligent beings or their vehicles.'
Initiative 300 was placed on the ballot after organizer Jeff Peckman managed to gather 4,000 signatures in support of the idea.
'We need to get this out of the realm of the Tooth Fairy and into the realm of diplomatic protocol,' campaign worker Ricky Butterfass told the Wall Street Journal Friday.
The proposal is one of the more curious local initiatives that will be put to voters across the US on election day. Democratic legislators are at risk of losing their majority in the House of Representatives, and perhaps also in the Senate.
