Neil Young suffers million-dollar damage as hybrid car catches fire
Nov 16, 2010, 19:53 GMT
San Francisco - Rock legend Neil Young suffered more than 1 million dollars in damage at a warehouse storing his memorabilia and equipment after a custom-built hybrid car caught fire and almost burned the structure down, the San Jose Mercury News reported Tuesday.
The incident occurred last week when the 1959 Lincoln Continental caught fire, due to 'an operator error that occurred in an untested part of the charging system,' Young was quoted as saying.
According to the report, the flames caused an estimated 850,000 dollars of damage to items stored in the San Jose warehouse, and a further 250,000 dollars of damage to the building itself. The costs could have been much higher, however, but firefighters managed to save some 70 per cent of the building's contents.
