Spilled coffee sets off terrorism alarm on plane
Jan 6, 2011, 15:12 GMT
New York - Spilled coffee set off a terrorism alert aboard a plane from Chicago to Frankfurt and forced an emergency landing in Canada, broadcaster CNN reported Wednesday.
Problems started on the United Airlines Boeing 777 shortly after takeoff late Monday, when a pilot spilled a cup of coffee into electronics in the cockpit. The beverage caused malfunctions including sending out a code for hijacking, which was received by air traffic controllers on the ground.
As a result, the plane landed in Toronto, and passengers were only able to continue to their destinations on Tuesday.
