Pentagon's No. 2 stepping down

Washington - The Pentagon's second ranking official announced Thursday he was resigning from his post.
Deputy Defence Secretary William J Lynn said he intends to return to private life but will stay on the job until the fall. Defence Secretary Leon Panetta, who began his tenure last week, asked Lynn to stay on until a replacement is named.
Lynn has been in the position since February 2009.
