Supreme Court gives go-ahead for execution
Sep 22, 2011, 2:43 GMT
Washington - The US Supreme Court late Wednesday approved the execution of a condemned man who had appealed at the last minute.
Lawyers for Troy Davis, 42, went to the Supreme Court with a final appeal an hour before he was due to be executed Wednesday at 7 pm (2300 GMT).
His execution had been put on hold while the court deliberated. It was the third time the sentence has been delayed for Davis, convicted of murdering a policeman in 1989.
His lawyers have questioned witnesses' testimony.
