White House shooting suspect charged with attempted assassination
Nov 17, 2011, 20:05 GMT
Washington - A man arrested for firing shots that hit the White House last week was charged Thursday with attempting to assassinate President Barack Obama or a member of his staff, CNN reported.
Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez was found Wednesday in a hotel in western Pennsylvania after the US Secret Service said it discovered a bullet hole in a window at the White House and another round outside the building.
Ortega had been wanted since shots were reported near the White House Friday and his car was found with a rifle and empty shell casings inside.
The suspect, who has been described as mentally ill, had apparently expressed hatred of Obama and Washington, reports said.
