Boxer Floyd Mayweather sentenced to jail
Dec 22, 2011, 2:17 GMT
Las Vegas - Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr was sentenced Wednesday to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to domestic violence charges.
The sentence stemmed from a September 2010 argument with his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris while their two children watched. Harris claimed that Mayweather twisted her arm and pulled her hair after she told him she was dating another man.
Mayweather, 34, is scheduled to report to jail on January 6, and his prison term could interfere with a mooted spring bout with Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao.
'Punishment is appropriate,' said Judge Melissa Saratogi, according to the Los Angeles Times. 'No matter who you are, you have consequences to your actions when they escalate to this level of violence.'
