Missing student found after nine days trapped in snow
Dec 22, 2011, 23:55 GMT
Los Angeles - A student has been rescued after being trapped for nine days in her snowbound car in remote north-eastern Arizona, the Arizona Daily Sun reported Thursday.
Lauren Elizabeth Weinberg said she survived on two chocolate bars and melted snow during her ordeal, which came as the entire US south-west was battered by a series of winter storms. The area where she was stranded received more than 1 metre of snow during the first days she was stuck, the report said.
Weinberg, 23, became stranded on December 12 when her vehicle became stuck in a snow drift on a dirt road. She was discovered by chance when US Forest Service employees spotted her car while on a snowmobile patrol. She was described by police officers as being 'coherent' when she was found but 'very hungry, thirsty and cold.'
