Pentagon to probe movie leak of Osama Bin Laden raid
Jan 6, 2012, 13:18 GMT
Los Angeles - The Pentagon has begun an investigation into whether the Obama administration leaked classified information about the operation that killed Osama bin Laden to Hollywood film-makers working on a movie about the daring raid, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.
The report said that Republican Congressman Peter T King demanded the probe following reports that Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, the team behind Oscar-winning Iraq war film, The Hurt Locker, were planning a movie about the raid that would hit screens just before the 2012 election, and could provide a critical boost to US President Barack Obama.
The New York Times reported in August that the filmmakers were granted access to classified information about the mission.
Both the White House and the filmmakers have insisted that no rules were broken.
'The dangerous work of finding the world's most wanted man was carried out by individuals in the military and intelligence communities who put their lives at risk for the greater good without regard for political affiliation,' said Boal and Bigelow in an August statement. 'This was an American triumph, both heroic and nonpartisan, and there is no basis to suggest that our film will represent this enormous victory otherwise.'
