Jan 11, 2012, 1:27 GMT
Manchester, New Hampshire dpa) - Former US ambassador to China Jon Huntsman declared Tuesday that he would stay in the race for the Republican presidential nomination even if he places third in the six-way race in New Hampshire.
Huntsman, who has placed all his efforts on winning the first-in-the-nation presidential primary, surged from low down in the polls to a projected 18 per cent, according to exit polls reported by CNN broadcaster.
'18 per cent is a very comfortable position and we go south from here,' Huntsman told CNN.
He was referring to the next state primaries in South Carolina on January 21 and Florida January 31.
