US senator detained over airport pat-down
Jan 23, 2012, 16:35 GMT
Washington - US Senator Rand Paul was detained by airport security Monday for refusing a pat-down at the security checkpoint, according to his father, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.
The younger Paul represents the southern state of Kentucky in the upper chamber of Congress. Both men are known for their views on civil liberties and outspoken opposition to such searches.
'My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville. More details coming,' the elder Paul wrote on his Twitter account.
ABC News reported that Paul had set off the body scanner at the airport and that Transportation Security Administration officials insisted he undergo a pat-down, rather than allowing him to pass back through the scanner.
