Obama calls for US to open more oil fields, boost clean energy
Jan 25, 2012, 2:52 GMT
Washington - US President Barack Obama on Tuesday said he would direct his government to boost domestic energy production and open more than 75 per cent of potential offshore oil and gas reserves for exploration.
Obama focussed in his annual State of the Union address on the importance of expanding US energy resources as well as boosting reliance on renewable resources.
He touted the US supply of natural gas and the potential to create 600,000 jobs in the field.
'I will not walk away from the promise of clean energy,' Obama said. 'I will not cede the wind or solar or battery industry to China or Germany because we refuse to make the same commitment here.'
