Sitcom director John Rich dies at 86

Los Angeles - John Rich, the director of US sitcoms such as the Dick Van Dyke Show and All in the Family, has died aged 86, according to the Directors Guild of America.
Rich passed away on Sunday at his Los Angeles home following a brief illness, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Rich, who won two Emmy awards for All in the Family, a hilarious 1970s social commentary about a family with an outspoken bigot for a father. The character, Archie Bunker, is widely seen as one of the great TV characters of all time.
Before switching to comedy, Rich also directed episodes of other classic TV series such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza, as well as lesser-known series such as I Married Joan, and, Our Miss Brooks.
He later directed five feature films including Roustabout and Easy Come, Easy Go, both starring Elvis Presley.
'He directed some of the most beloved classics of all time, and his skills as a director were unsurpassed,' said Taylor Hackford, the president of the Directors Guild of America.
