WikiLeaks suspect Manning to be arraigned this month
Feb 9, 2012, 17:24 GMT
Washington - US soldier Bradley Manning, suspected of leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks, will be arraigned later this month, the US Army said Thursday.
The charges against him will be read at the arraignment on February 23 at Fort Meade, Maryland.
The military had said last week that Manning would face court martial after reviewing a recommendation by the investigating officer and other evidence.
Manning faces charges including aiding the enemy, causing intelligence to be published online, theft and computer fraud.
If convicted, he could face life in prison. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty, which could have imposed under the most serious charges.
WikiLeaks gained international notoriety starting in late 2010, when it published thousands of military and diplomatic documents in the international media, causing diplomatic embarrassment and alleged security breaches for the United States.
