"We just heard a lot of sirens, and people were kind of frantic," a witness says The explosions happened at the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, injuring at least 28 people at the time of this story filing.

Two explosions rocked the world famous Boston Marathon today, as CNN and FOX news are both running live coverage on the scene, where runners and spectators alike were injured and as of 4 PM EST two are officially reported dead.

CNN Producer Matt Frucci is reporting live from the incident, on site for the annual event. The first left "a big plume of smoke" hovering over the area, around Boston's Copley Square and Boylston Street; the second occurred perhaps 10 seconds later, he said.

Frucci reports on CNN that the race was halted after the explosions as was subway service into the area.

Paramedics were aided by troops from the Massachusetts National Guard and Boston police, all working together to get the victims to Mass. General Hospital and other area emergency rooms.

The White House is reported by CNN to be in full lockdown and following the events as they are reported. Washington D.C. and New York City police are both in a heightened state of tactical alert.
